Happy December, friends! Today marks the start of the Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week! And because December kicks off Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week, I had the opportunity to appear on the cover of Healthmonitor’s Guide to Living with IBD! Yep, that’s right – I’m IBD famous! 🙂 FYI: The magazine is available in doctor’s offices and you can read the full issue here! All jokes aside, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share my journey…

So, I know I’ve talked a TON about my journey with Ulcerative Colitis and how it is an autoimmune disorder and inflammatory bowel disease, but I thought I would bring it back to the basics for those of you who may be new readers (welcome!) or who would like to know more about what an autoimmune disorder actually is (or who think IBD is the same thing as IBS – it’s not). I’ve done a…

I’ve partnered with Deep River Snacks to bring you this blog post. As always, thank you for supporting CNC! It’s finally April, which means we are on the homestretch (fingers crossed!) to some warmer weather here in the Northeast! April will hopefully be the month we all come out of winter hibernation – but did you know that it’s also National Volunteer Month? It’s so important for me to be able to spend my time…

Hi, guys! Just wanted to share what my doctor said when I asked him if I could stop Entyvio. I received a bunch of questions on social media about his response, so I figured I should fill you guys in over here. Photo by Marcelo Leal on Unsplash Ok, first a little backstory… My GI doctor that I loved so much left MGH to work for Takeda, the company that makes Entyvio. This makes me both sad and…

Good morning! First things first: THANK YOU so much for all of your wondering comments on yesterday’s blog post. I can’t tell you how much each one of them means to me, especially after starting my morning with some not-so-nice ones. Jeez, some people love tearing others down, huh? Hurt people hurt people. Anyway, let’s not focus on that nonsense right now… So, the other day, I was hanging out with one of my friends…

Hi guys! Today, I want to share with you a few thoughts that have been weighing on my mind lately. Fair warning – this will be a bit more of a heavier post than usual. As many of you know, I live with a not-so-fun chronic illness, Ulcerative Colitis. You can read more about my journey with UC here. Most of the time, I feel healthy, strong, and happy, and I will never take that…

I’m so excited to have Kristin guest post on CNC today. If you missed yesterday’s blog post, I’m working with her over the next several months to improve some of my gut issues and reduce inflammation. Speaking of which, read on to see what she has to say about the top inflammatory foods and how removing them from your diet can jumpstart your recovery.  Photo by Brooke Lark on Unsplash The 5 Most Inflammatory Foods You Should be Avoiding…

If you’re a long-time reader, you know that I struggled with ulcerative colitis for many years. If you’d like to read my story, you can check it out here, but the short of it is that I tried all sorts of diet and lifestyle changes with not one ounce of improvement in my symptoms – if anything, they just got worse and worse (probably because I was so darn stressed and obsessed with my illness)….

I’ve partnered with VSL#3 to bring you this post. As always, the opinions expressed are my own. Thank you for supporting CNC! Earlier this month, I shared an update about how things are going on the ulcerative colitis front as well as a few things I’m trying to help keep myself in remission, which includes adding the high-potency probiotic medical food, VSL#3, to my daily routine. I’ve taken VSL#3 every day for three consecutive weeks,…

I’ve partnered with VSL#3 to bring you this post. As always, the opinions expressed are my own. Thank you for supporting CNC!  A bunch of you guys have asked how things are going on the Ulcerative Colitis front. I’ve actually debated writing this post for several weeks now because pretty much every time I write an update, things fall apart. (I even hesitate to tell friends and family when they ask!) I feel like I…

Hi guys! On October 30th, I will be participating in spin4 Crohn’s & Colitis Cures, an indoor cycling relay to benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). The CCFA is the leading non-profit organization dedicated to finding cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. These diseases are collectively known as IBD or inflammatory bowel disease and there is not cure (yet). Since the organization’s founding in 1967, the CCFA has funded over $285 million in…

Hey, hey! I had my 5th Entyvio infusion earlier today, so I wanted to give you guys an update on my health and how things are going. Long story short: I’m doing better. I’m taking a combination of drugs now (Entyvio + Budesonide + Cortifoam + Hydrocortisone), which are mostly keeping me healthy. I’m far from 100 percent, but there’s still a chance that the Entyvio will work, so I’m hoping and praying it kicks in soon. (FYI…

In honor of World IBD Day today, I wanted to share some advice about what has helped me over the years with anyone who is newly diagnosed or struggling with IBD on a regular basis. Nearly 5 years after my own diagnosis, I still don’t have all the answers, but I’m more than happy to share my experience with the hope of it helping others. Find a doctor who you trust and respect – This is…

Last Sunday, I attended the 2016 Boston Patient & Family IBD Symposium, which was hosted by the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). It was a half-day event (with breakfast!) for people living with IBD as well as their families. The agenda included a number of interesting and educational talks from top doctors in the area, including “IBD Outside the Gut” (the disease and its associated drugs can affect many other parts of the body) as well as “IBD…

As the title explains: Remicade stopped working for me. Whomp whomp. Within days of giving you guys a happy UC update, things started to fall apart. (Gah, I totally jinxed myself.) I thought maybe I was having a bit too much fun around the holidays (i.e. treats, booze, staying up late), but after a few weeks of progressively worse symptoms and additional drugs that just weren’t doing the trick, I went to the hospital for…
