We did it!!! Mal and I both tackled 20 miles this morning! Boo-YAH! At 6:30 this morning, I ate my usual pre-run breakfast. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Then, Mal and I drove to South Boston to meet our team. We didn’t want to be late for our 20-miler, so we gave ourselves plenty of time to get there. Plus, we needed to stock up on Gu for our run! (I’m lovin’ the…

Oh, the life of a food journal blogger. We’re a “special” bunch! 😉 Do you have any idea how many photos of my oatmeal I’ve taken in the past three years? It must be tens of thousands. Seriously. I only put 2-5 photos of my breakfast on my blog each morning, but just think about how many deleted photos never make it onto CNC. This morning, for instance, I snapped nine photos of my oatmeal….

I’m such a sap when it comes to marathon stuff. I get teary-eyed at the Boston Marathon every single year, I almost cried (tears of happiness) when I finished 18 miles last weekend, and I can barely read my favorite running quotes without getting a little choked-up thinking about my own upcoming marathon. So, I guess I really wasn’t surprised when I fought back tears watching the Spirit of the Marathon with my TNT team…

So, which do you want to hear first: the good news or the bad news? Hmm? Ok, let’s keep things positive and start with the good news! 😀 This morning, I ran 10.18 miles with my TNT team. I finished in 1:35:52, which was an average pace of 9:25/mile. I’m happy about this. See, I am happy! Ok, here comes the bad news. 😕 The bad news is that I was supposed to run 12…

Welcome to my Holiday Bake Sale to raise money for Team In Training! As you probably know, Mal and I are training for the P.F. Chang’s Rock ”˜N’ Roll Marathon in January with Team In Training. We’ve already raised $6,500 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (thanks to many of you!), but we know we can do better. Our goal is $8,000!! I hope your sweet tooth is ready! Listed below are a bunch of delicious…

I guess my preparations paid off because I did it. I ran 18 miles. I’m so proud of myself!  I can only imagine what finishing 26 miles will feel like. I started the morning with my typical long run breakfast: peanut butter and banana on a toasted English muffin with a small glass of iced coffee. It hasn’t let me down yet! After breakfast, Mal and I drove to Southie, but we were late meeting…

“If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” Wise, wise words with regard to running (and life, in general) from Steve Prefontaine. Actually, he has a lot of great running quotes. Here are a few of my favorites: “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.” “You cannot propel yourself forward by patting yourself on the back.” “Success isn’t how far you got, but the distance you traveled from where you started.” As…

This morning’s 12-mile run started out like usual: Mal and I woke up bright and early, I took the pug for a walk, and he made us peanut butter and banana sandwiches. And iced coffees with soy milk. Our team run was canceled due to the holiday, so Mal and I planned our own 12-mile route around town. The run started like any other Saturday long run. Mal and I ran together for the first two…

I’m feelin’ the love tonight! 😀 I must say, I have really wonderful blog readers. I love that so many people have reached out and offered to help Mal and me raise money for Team In Training. We’re getting close to our goal, but we’re still not quite there yet. But, thanks to Leanne, a long-time reader of Carrots ‘N’ Cake, we have another chance to meet it! So, here’s another fundraiser to benefit Team In…

Oh, Monday. I’m totally not ready for this week. The weekend flew by much too fast for me. But, it’s a short work week, right? Only three days for me! Breakfast My morning started like usual: banana oats with iced coffee. In the mix: old-fashioned oats, muesli, raisins, almonds, soy milk, and a scoop of peanut butter. I love oatmeal. Recommitting After missing almost all of our training workouts last week, Mal and I are recommitting…

This morning, I woke up with a sore throat and “stuffy” ears. Meh. 😕 But, otherwise, I felt great! 😉 So, I decided to join my TNT team for a long run this morning. First Breakfast Before we headed out the door, Mal and I “fueled” with our usual breakfast of peanut butter + banana and iced coffees with soy milk. We each ate a piece of cinnamon-raisin bread and half of a bagel. Iced…

I totally ate my lunch at 11:00 this morning. I guess my stomach still thinks it’s in California?! I can’t believe how hungry I was for lunch today! Snack After breakfast, I packed and packed and packed. I’m getting really close to having the whole place packed up. Wahoo! Mid-morning, I took a little break and snacked on some almonds and a dark chocolate Adora disk. Lunch Even after eating a snack, my stomach continued…

Up and at ’em!! As soon as I woke up, the thought of 16 miles popped into my head. (I’m missing my team run on Saturday, so I decided to do it on my own today.) I immediately got out of bed, walked the pug, and made my usual pre-run breakfast: Sandwich Thins with peanut butter and banana slices. While I let my food digest (about 30 minutes), I got everything together for my run….

Mal and I eat 12-mile runs for breakfast! 😉 It’s crazy to think that 12 miles is now considered a “recovery” run. After running 14 miles last weekend, 12 miles seemed easier, but it’s still 12 miles! 😯 The best part about today’s run was tackling the G Street hill. I ran up the entire thing without stopping. It was glorious!! I still can’t believe that I did it, especially after how much trouble it gave…

Good morning! Exciting news! Remember how I mentioned that my sister is now an Avon representative? Well, she offered to donate 50% of her sales through Carrots ‘N’ Cake to Team In Training (now through 11/18). Hooray!! 😀 She even set up a special Avon fundraising page, so please take a look! Just be sure to enter TNT2011 at checkout. The holidays are right around the corner and Avon has a ton of great gift…
