Hi, everyone! My name is Lizzie and I am from TheWeekdayVegan. I blog about my eating and running adventures. I have run numerous half marathons, but just ran my first full marathon! One of the best decisions I ever made in training for my marathon was to do it with TeaminTraining, part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS.) I have been a part of Team in Training for almost two years now. I started…

We trained for 22 weeks, logged nearly 400 miles, traveled to Phoenix, and punched the Rock ”˜N’ Roll Arizona Marathon in the facehole! The night before the marathon, Mal and I were convinced that we wouldn’t sleep a wink, but, surprisingly, we both slept until our alarm at 5:05 AM. As soon as it went off, we both jumped out of bed and started cruising around the hotel room. I ate my usual pre-race breakfast of peanut butter and…

We did it! Holy crap. We are MARATHONERS!!!!! Time for an iced bath and, like, a million beers!

Ahhhhh! I’m running a MARATHON tomorrow morning!! 😯 Even though I probably won’t sleep very much tonight, my bed is calling my name, so I’m going to whiz right through this post. Tonight, Mal and I attended Team In Training’s Inspiration Dinner, which was exactly what we needed to get inspired to run 26.2 miles tomorrow. I’m nervous as hell, but pumped! Dinner included your typical pre-race fare: pasta, salad, dinner rolls, and grilled chicken….

After breakfast, Mal and I headed out in search of iced coffee. We loved visiting the Public Market this morning, so we ended up back there and popped into the super-cute, hole-in-the-wall Royal Coffee Bar for coffee. I ordered an iced coffee with soy milk. With iced coffees in hand, we walked back to the hotel for TNT’s jersey decorating event. There were all sorts of fun decorating materials, like puffy paints and brightly-colored, iron-on…

Here’s a little preview of what I will look like when I cross the finish line of the Rock ‘N’ Roll Arizona Marathon: I am such a dork. But, seriously, the countdown has begun! 😯 [rewind to 6:30 this morning] Breakfast At the airport before our flight, I ate a pathetic-looking banana that I brought from home. It did a lot of traveling, so it got a serious beating. It still tasted alright! I also…

This is it. Mal and I are currently on our way to Phoenix to run our first marathon. If you’ve been following since August, it’s been a long time coming. Weeks of training: 22 Track (speed) workouts: 16 Saturday morning team runs: 14 Half marathons run during training: 1 Saturday morning team runs that it rained: 0 Saturday morning team runs that it snowed: 1 Saturday morning team runs that I got lost: 14 Number…

Rise and shine! 😎 Inspired by yesterday’s Carrot Cake Muffins, I started my morning with a delicious bowl of Carrot Cake Quinoa with a big scoop of peanut butter in the middle. In the mix: 1/4 cup cooked quinoa 1/4 cup rolled oats 2/3 cup coconut milk 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp ginger Pinch of nutmeg 1 tbsp ground flaxseed meal Shredded carrots Raisins Walnuts I also drank a glass of iced coffee with soy…

Running a marathon is a lifelong goal of mine. In 2002, I added it to my Life’s To Do List, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. But, my list wasn’t the catalyst that pushed me to finally sign up to run a marathon. It was actually the photo below. If you read other health blogs, you might recognize Caitlin of Healthy Tipping Point and her friend, Lauren. Caitlin ran her first marathon last…

Brrrrrr! Our final TNT training run was cold and snowy. But, hey, at least it was memorable, right? Plus, it just makes me even more excited for the warm weather in Phoenix! 😎 When I woke up this morning, I wanted to crawl right back into bed. I was not a happy camper when I realized that it was snowing. Breakfast After taking the pug for his morning walk in the snow, I made my…

This is the toughest part of winter for me: right after the holidays, but months away from spring. It’s a long stretch between now and April (or even May). The winters in Boston usually seem like they will never end. This might sound crazy, but marathon training has really changed my perspective on winter. Even my husband noticed my more positive attitude toward the cold. Usually, I am Cranky Pants McGee when it comes to winter!…

Happy New Years Eve!! I hope you have some fun plans this evening to ring in 2011! Classic photo of us. Tonight, Mal and I are going out to dinner together and then celebrating the new year at a friend’s house party, where I will not play flip cup with champagne. Worst idea ever. Breakfast This morning, Mal and I had our final training run with our TNT team. The majority of our team is…

The marathon is getting so close!! I can’t believe that it’s a little over two weeks away. I feels like we were just signing up for it! It’s getting real, people! 😯 A special box with all of our Team In Training gear arrived in the mail today. Inside was our uniforms, t-shirts, emergency bracelets, dinner and party tickets, flight and hotel information, etc. Wow, it’s really starting to hit me. In 17 short days, I’m…

Exciting news on the fundraising front! OpenSky will donate $1 to Team In Training for everyone who follows Carrots ”˜N’ Cake from now until our marathon day on January 16th! OpenSky now features flash sales, which means my favorite items will be offered at 30-50% off!! You can only find out about these deals if you follow me and when you sign up, you’ll donate $1 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please consider signing…

I thought this morning’s run would never, ever end! I felt like I “passed through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then walked through the Lincoln Tunnel.” Seriously, it was so tough. I struggled through the entire thing. I thought running 15 miles would seem like cake compared to running 20 miles, but it was still really hard. Holy cow. Plus, running out in…
