Hello, hello! Just popping in with a quick post about my run this morning and a recap of last week’s workouts. In general, it was a good week of workouts, minus a small overuse injury. I had some knee pain and soreness after my 11-mile run on Tuesday, so I took it easy with running for the rest of the week to give it a little break. The time off was exactly what I needed…

Good morning! Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. Mine was especially nice because I got to spend the majority of it with Mal’s family. His sister and her husband were in town from Seattle, so we did some of our favorite East coast things with them. On Saturday afternoon, we met Mal’s parents, his sister, and her husband in Harvard Square. My father-in-law is a Harvard alum, so he…

Wow, what an amazing weekend: perfect (summer) weather, great friends, good times, and delicious eats. Let’s just say there wasn’t a shortage of fun this weekend! Here’s a recap of the best parts of my weekend in Newport.  Best Adventure: Newport Sailing Cruise On Sunday, Mal and I and our friends, Josh and Courtney, took a two-hour sailing cruise of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay on the Aquidneck, a beautiful, 80-foot gaff-rigged schooner. The weather…

Yesterday, Mal and I went apple picking at Rocky Brook Orchard in Middletown, Rhode Island. We’ve wanted to go apple picking for weeks now, so we Googled nearby orchards and found this one. Rocky Brook is a small orchard that offers pick your own apples, peaches, and pears. Surprisingly, the orchard has 45 different varieties of apples, including many rare ones. By 2012, the orchard plans to have 60 varieties of apples! Rocky Brook Orchard…

What a beautiful morning for a run. Six easy, breezy miles along Ocean Drive and Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island.

Woah. Where the heck did Saturday go?!? Before it knew it, it was midnight and I was falling asleep on the couch. Blogging just didn’t happen yesterday. Oops! 😳 Pre-Workout Snack As soon as Mal and I woke up, we grabbed fuel for our 9-mile run. We shared a pistachio-chocolate chip muffin and an iced coffee from the Ocean Breeze Cafe. Mmm! It was definitely my type of fuel! 😉 While we ate, we planned…

Hello from Newport! I’m so, so, so excited to be here (it’s my favorite weekend of the whole year!), but the rainy, gray weather is a wicked bummer. It’s a repeat of last year. Wahhhh. 😕 Let’s hope the icky weather clears up soon! Mal and I arrived in Newport just in time for happy hour! 😉 We kicked-off our weekend by sitting on the porch, staring out into the ocean, and enjoying a couple of…

We spent the last few hours of our Newport vacation watching the Pats game on TV. It’s our yearly tradition to watch it at a low-key pub called Mudville. However, when we arrived, ready to watch the game, we realized that Mudville was closed for renovations. Wicked bummer! 😕 Luckily, we didn’t need to walk far to find another place to watch the game. Buskers is a family-owned Irish pub and restaurant with lots of…

Last night, my hubby, in-laws, and I had dinner at Tucker’s Bistro in Newport. A couple of my blog readers recommended it, and because it’s a French-inspired bistro, I thought my in-laws would absolutely love it. From the outside, Tucker’s looked adorable with lots of hanging white lights, vibrant colors, and charming flower boxes. Inside, the decor was interesting and eclectic, and the atmosphere was relaxed and romantic. The bar area of the restaurant had…

Around lunchtime, Mal, my in-laws, and I headed over to the Taste of Rhode Island at the Newport Yachting Center. The event was basically a food festival that featured a variety of edible items, wine, beer, and dozens of restaurants from the Ocean State. Mal and I were lucky to have the opportunity to attend the event as “media.” Obviously, Mal was psyched! 😉 The event included the Stop & Shop Pavilion, where attendees could…

It was the perfect morning to sleep late and lounge around. It’s been raining pretty hard all morning, so Mal and I weren’t in any rush to get going. Around 10:00 AM, our stomachs finally started to grumble, so we headed to the Ocean Breeze Cafe for breakfast. The menu at the Ocean Breeze Cafe is pretty extensive. They serve a range of traditional breakfast items as well as the most glorious muffins! 😀 There…

Greetings from Newport! 😀 It’s a rainy, blustery, gray day in Newport, but I’m so happy to just be here. The weekend that we spend in Newport each October is easily my favorite of the entire year. I look forward to it so much. Our time in Newport is always very relaxing, but for some reason, we always end up celebrating (or just discussing) a major life change when we are here. For instance, last…

Even though it rained all day, I enjoyed a lovely Sunday in Newport. Our morning started with brunch at the Ocean Breeze Cafe, which is a cute restaurant on Thames Street with the most delicious and creative-flavored muffins ever! I look forward to these babies all year long! 🙂   Some of yesterday’s muffin selections included: pumpkin chocolate chip, almond joy (coconut, chocolate, and almond), cranberry-orange, pistachio, banana chocolate chip, peach cobbler, cappuccino, carrot raisin, lemon poppyseed, and many…
