Another Newport weekend is in the books! This was our 9th year visiting (Qman’s 5th – feel free to do the math on that one ;)), and it’s still our favorite weekend of the year! Friday Annual cart photo! 🙂 Once we were settled, we headed out into Newport to do some exploring and grab dinner. We went to The Deck for dinner, which was just okay food- and drink-wise, but the views were incredible!…

Hi, friends! We’re home from Newport now and we had a wonderful time there. It was great spending time with family, and I especially love all of our traditions. They’re the best part of our trip, and I look forward to them so much. On our final night in Newport, we enjoyed an early dinner at Midtown Oyster Bar. Mal and I actually first dined here when I was newly pregnant with Q-Man. If you look…

Greetings from Newport, Rhode Island! A little someone woke up bright and early this morning (I assume he was too excited to sleep!), so we were up and at ’em before the sunrise. Mal and I both wanted (needed?) coffee, so we got ourselves ready for the day. (Quinn thought the hairdryer was hilarious.) The weather was a little chilly and quite windy, so we all bundled up. (Quinn’s super cool shark stroller is from Amazon.) We…

This post is sponsored by Blue Diamond Almonds. Alternate title: How to Behave at a Bachelorette Party When You’re Running a Marathon the Next Day Over the weekend, I drove down to Newport, Rhode Island for a friend’s bachelorette party. Of course, I knew I would be running the Boston Marathon on Monday, but there was no way I could miss her big girls’ weekend away. I knew it would be a ton of fun, so I planned to enjoy myself…

It’s crazy to think that when we were in Newport this time last year, I was about 6 weeks pregnant. The morning sickness, aversions (coffee!), and hunger had just started to set in, but we didn’t plan to tell anyone about my pregnancy yet””not even my in-laws. Even still, I think they were onto us. I turned down wine and pumpkin beer, and I woke up in the middle of the night and ate a container of…

Good morning, friends! On Sunday, it rained all morning and afternoon, so our second day in Newport was pretty low-key. Breakfast Mal and I woke up starving for breakfast (I actually woke up at 3 AM and ate a container of yogurt because I was so hungry), so we headed out to Gary’s Handy Lunch for breakfast. We felt kind of bad going to breakfast without Mal’s parents, but they were still sleeping and we…

Greetings from Newport, Rhode Island! Mal and I arrived in Newport late on Friday afternoon and his parents arrived a little while later. We had a low-key evening at home in the condo””ate dinner, played at least an hour of Candy Crush (Mal and my mother-in-law got me hooked), and then went to bed early. On Saturday morning, I woke up bright and early. Ate a little something and then headed out to run 4…

Good morning! Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. Mine was especially nice because I got to spend the majority of it with Mal’s family. His sister and her husband were in town from Seattle, so we did some of our favorite East coast things with them. On Saturday afternoon, we met Mal’s parents, his sister, and her husband in Harvard Square. My father-in-law is a Harvard alum, so he…

Wow, what an amazing weekend: perfect (summer) weather, great friends, good times, and delicious eats. Let’s just say there wasn’t a shortage of fun this weekend! Here’s a recap of the best parts of my weekend in Newport.  Best Adventure: Newport Sailing Cruise On Sunday, Mal and I and our friends, Josh and Courtney, took a two-hour sailing cruise of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay on the Aquidneck, a beautiful, 80-foot gaff-rigged schooner. The weather…

Yesterday, Mal and I went apple picking at Rocky Brook Orchard in Middletown, Rhode Island. We’ve wanted to go apple picking for weeks now, so we Googled nearby orchards and found this one. Rocky Brook is a small orchard that offers pick your own apples, peaches, and pears. Surprisingly, the orchard has 45 different varieties of apples, including many rare ones. By 2012, the orchard plans to have 60 varieties of apples! Rocky Brook Orchard…

Beth’s bachelorette was a huge success! (I’m still laughing about funny things that happened last night.) The bride-to-be definitely enjoyed her special night out! I arrived in Newport just in time for Happy Hour, which included a plethora of drinks, appetizers, and desserts. How adorable are these cookies!?! After a couple of hours of eating, drinking, and being merry, everyone gathered for a few bachelorette games. The first was a lingerie clothing line for the bride-to-bed….

Woah. Where the heck did Saturday go?!? Before it knew it, it was midnight and I was falling asleep on the couch. Blogging just didn’t happen yesterday. Oops! 😳 Pre-Workout Snack As soon as Mal and I woke up, we grabbed fuel for our 9-mile run. We shared a pistachio-chocolate chip muffin and an iced coffee from the Ocean Breeze Cafe. Mmm! It was definitely my type of fuel! 😉 While we ate, we planned…

Hello from Newport! I’m so, so, so excited to be here (it’s my favorite weekend of the whole year!), but the rainy, gray weather is a wicked bummer. It’s a repeat of last year. Wahhhh. 😕 Let’s hope the icky weather clears up soon! Mal and I arrived in Newport just in time for happy hour! 😉 We kicked-off our weekend by sitting on the porch, staring out into the ocean, and enjoying a couple of…

Around lunchtime, Mal, my in-laws, and I headed over to the Taste of Rhode Island at the Newport Yachting Center. The event was basically a food festival that featured a variety of edible items, wine, beer, and dozens of restaurants from the Ocean State. Mal and I were lucky to have the opportunity to attend the event as “media.” Obviously, Mal was psyched! 😉 The event included the Stop & Shop Pavilion, where attendees could…
