Super Sunday + New Lay’s Flavors

Hi, friends!

We had a nice little Sunday yesterday. It started with a trip to the dog park where I ran with Q and the jogging stroller for about 15 minutes and, man, it was tough””so much harder than I thought it would be! I definitely need to work on it! Haha!

Mal also took a turn with the jogging stroller and ran for about 20 minutes. When he started off with Q, Murphy ran after them, all bugged out that Mal was running away from him. Murphy seriously hauled-ass trying to catch him, but Mal was too fast for him, so he eventually gave up and stopped running. It was equally sad and hilarious. So much pug panic.

Reunited!!

On the way home from the park, we stopped for donuts and iced coffees. Mal always has the best ideas!

I was in the mood for a glazed donut””it just seemed to go so well with iced coffee””so that’s what I ordered. I usually get the chocolate cake donut or one with sprinkles from Dunkin’ Donuts, but I switched it up this time. I know. I am so crazy.

When we got home, we did a few things around the house and then headed to a friend’s barbecue where there were SO MANY KIDS! Mal and I are usually the only people with a child, so it was a nice change of pace for us.

At the party, I got to try a couple of the new Lay’s flavors. I’ve actually been really curious to try them for weeks now, so I was pretty pumped when I saw the bags.

The Mango Salsa is terrible””like the worst thing I have ever eaten. They tasted like Fruit Loops/red flavor ice pops. I am not a fan. However, the Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese were delicious! They had a nice mix of cheesiness and bacon flavor. Mmm! Loved them! I still want to try the Cappuccino and Wasabi Ginger flavors. FYI: I heard a rumor Walgreens sells the small bags of them.

Question of the Day

What’s your go-to donut flavor?

Have you tried the new Lay’s flavors?

  1. My boyfriend had some of the Mango Salsa and the Wasabi Ginger. The Mango Salsa is a fail and I’m still puzzled why anyone would want to eat Cappucino-flavored fried potatoes. The Wasabi Ginger tasted nothing like wasabi OR ginger but they were tasty – slightly sweet, a little spicy, a hint of some Asian flavor. Not what was advertised but perfectly crunchable.

Your son is adorable. Congratulations again!

  2. I love maple frosted long johns or apple fritters! However, if I get my hands on a Krispy Kreme, I’m all about the traditional glazed or chocolate frosted. 🙂

I have mixed feelings about those new Lay’s flavors. I could see myself maybe loving the cheddar bacon mac & cheese and wasabi flavors, but the other two are beyond strange to me!!

  3. The only one I haven’t tried is the bacon mac and cheese and I have to say totally agree with you on the mango salsa. The only one I liked was the wasabi ginger, but not at first! The cappuchino I did not like at all haah

  4. I am loving Boston Cream donuts lately (custard filling and chocolate frosting). Mmmm so good! Or an Apple Fritter if you twist my arm.

I can’t try the Lays new flavors because I’m super sensitive to MSG and it makes me go temporarily blind, lol. It makes very sad because those bacon ones sound soooo good!

  5. The Duane Reade near the hospital where I work sells the small bags, and I was tempted to buy one of each to bring back to the office the other day. Thing is, I hate potato chips in general, and I hardly imagine a bunch of dietitians would be happy to see them, but I’m so curious.

  6. My favourite donut flavour is maple! (That’s gotta be the Canadian in me coming out, I’m sure). Either that or something cinnamon-y.
If I had to invent a donut though, I would make one that was pumpkin pie flavoured! I’m sure it exists somewhere, but I have yet to find it and try it!
And about the Lays flavours”¦ I laughed out loud to myself when I saw that they had Cappucino flavours. What are they thinking?! I haven’t seen them but might have to try a bag if I find them at a grocery store!

  7. Glazed and cinnamon munchkins together for the win! Shake the bag a little, so the powder is on all as is the glaze… now I want some.

  8. Mmm, the wasabi ginger ones are my FAVORITE chip, not even in the contest, like, my favorite of all chips 🙂 They are kettle cooked, so they are all crunchy. I am scared that the macaroni one will win and they will be gone. real fear

  9. Those chips don’t even sound good. 😮

A customer of our’s (I work at my parents bar on the weekend) brought in his Pug Pup…. Boo!! OMG ~ she was adorable. She’s 12 weeks old. She was wound up and was doing laps around the bar/tables/pool tables. Too cute!!! 🙂

  10. Yes to the donuts. Chocolate covered glazed all the way. Yes to the iced coffee. No to the new flavored lays. I can’t imagine I’d like them. But I suppose never say never, right?

  11. Haha I totally know that dog face- the “Why on Earth are you leaving me?” face! I get it every time I go out for a run and leave my pup sitting by the entryway.

Also, good job with the jogging stroller! I have never run with one but they look so stinkin difficult to push when you’re used to swinging your arms. When you figure it out you’ll have to post some tips on how to do it!

Blueberry cake or chocolate cake ALWAYS unless there are some fresh ones with the pink icing and sprinkles because they make me feel like I’m 5 years old and wearing a Tinkerbell costume again. Which, I have to say, feels awesome.

  12. Down in Tennessee, I only found the small bags at Walgreens (no big bags at Kroger). The mango salsa tasted like mango salsa, but it was kinda weird. The bacon mac & cheese were awesome! I have no desire to try the cappuccino, not sure about the wasabi. so far b, m, & c is where it’s at!

Murphy running after Mal does sound sad and hilarious. Awwww!!!

  13. My go to donut is an old fashioned donut. They’re not overly cakey or dry, and they go great with coffee. I’m disappointed to hear about the mango salsa Lay’s! I thought they looked like a great idea, but I guess not. Who the heck thought a cappuccino potato chip would be good?

  14. I hadn’t seen the Bacon Mac & Cheese flavor of chips, but that DOES sound good! I’ve seen both the Cappucino and the Wasabi flavors, but I haven’t dared tried them……I’ll give them to my brother and see what he says, first! 🙂

Go to donut: cake donut with sprinkles. SOO GOOD!

I can’t wait until Dunkin opens on the West Coast in 2015!

  15. I LOVE chocolate donuts with chocolate frosting. What can I say? Now I really want one. I’m having a procedure done on Thursday and am debating on going in late to work on Friday…maybe I’ll have to go in just to get one :-9.

I think the Bacon Mac & Cheese are the only flavor that sounds even remotely appetizing. The cappuccino ones sound disgusting. If you’re really into trying new chips the Kettle Brand Maple Bacon = omg. I’m not “allowed” to buy them anymore because I can eat the whole bag by myself in one weekend.

  16. My go to donut is the classic old-fashioned cake. The glaze on donuts always leaves that weird film on the roof of my mouth and I’m not a fan of that feeling. I’m sorry, but both of those lays flavors sound disgusting! If I’m going to eat chips, I want really salty salt and vinegar!

  17. Go to donut it’s the glazed munchkins!

I tried the mango salsa chips, thought they tasted like mango salsa and didn’t mind them. The others don’t sound good. I’m not a fan of bacon flavored stuff unless it’s real bacon.

  18. I just tried the mac-n-cheese and bacon ones this weekend. The first one was kinda weird and processed tasting, but after that they were pretty good. I am scared, but really want to try those cappuccino ones! xoxo, ganeeban

  19. I’m glad you tried those chips–they seem interesting but not sure I need a whole bag of them!

I go pretty basic with my doughnuts as well, most of the time. I usually pick glazed, cake or cinnamon sugar donut. The one exception is the famous Voodoo Donut grape ape that has frosting with grape powder and purple sprinkles on top. So good!

  20. My go-to doughnut, if I can get it, is one of the twisty glazed ones. It’s been my favorite since I was a kid (and my aunt would get us LaMarr’s from KC. Sadly LaMarr’s is no longer in KC), and people always make sure to get one for me, if they’re making a doughnut run. 🙂

I want to try all the new Lay’s flavors, except cappuccino. I love cappuccinos, and don’t want them tarnished by potato chips. And my dad has a coworker who said it just tasted wrong. I think the Bacon Mac & Cheese sounds amazing. Their flavor Chicken and Waffles from last year I actually really liked! 🙂

  21. I love a good apple fritter…I have not tried the chips, but the creator of Bacon Mac and Cheese is from my town so I am all for it:)!!

  22. I LOVED this post! Seriously, I was laughing out loud at picturing poor little Murphy chasing Mel!! I will def be re-reading this post for another laugh!!

  23. Poor Murphy!! I’m just picturing him running, and trying so hard to keep up. Too cute 🙂

I’ve seen those Lays chips around, and I’ve been a little curious. The cappacino flavor kind of freaks me out, but I kind of want to try it. Haha!
