When my alarm went off at 4:45 this morning, I did not want to get out of bed. It was chilly inside our house and my bed was so warm with my husband on one side of me and a fuzzy, snoring pug on the other. Forcing myself out of bed wasn’t easy, but I’m so glad that I did it.
This morning, I met my Back on My Feet team at Father Bill’s Place before heading over together to the YMCA for an early morning workout.
While walking around the track, I heard all about Friday night’s group date to Papa Gino’s followed by a viewing of The Adjustment Bureau at the movie theater. I also heard about Sunday’s 5K race in South Boston, which was run by 6 members of our team. It sounded like everyone had a great time at both of these events. I’m a little bummed that I missed them, but BOMF does fun stuff all of the time, so there will be plenty more opportunities to hang out with my team.
On my drive home, I encountered the most beautiful sunrise.
It was breathtaking. What a way to start the day.
Breakfast
My stomach was growling before I even walked into the house, so I immediately tossed two pieces of whole grain bread into the toaster oven.
While I waited, Murphy kept me company by my feet. (He really just hoped I’d drop some food onto the kitchen floor. There’s no āĖ5 Second Rule’ in our house. Murphy has it taken care of in 3 seconds or less.)
When my bread was finished cooking, I topped them with almond butter and pickled plums.
The pickled plums from Boat Street are large pitted prunes, which are plumped with a syrup of cider vinegar and cane sugar with coriander, mustard seed, arbol chili, orange peel, and bay leaf. It’s consistency is a mix between jam and chutney. It’s pretty awesome.
Mmm! I loved this combination of flavors. My sandwich was sort of like an amped up PB & J.
I also drank an iced coffee and some water with breakfast.

Question of the Day
In what areas of your life are you most and least healthy?
I think I’m most healthy with regard to exercise. I enjoy it, so it’s pretty easy for me to stick to regular workouts. I’m least healthy with regard to a work-life balance. I work way too much, but I am really trying to change that by stepping away from my computer more often.

The pickled plums sound so interesting! Though I don’t know if I could handle those flavors for breakfast. I think it would make an amazing marinade for meats!
I’m most healthy in regards to exercise, like you said. But I’m least healthy in my need to eat sweets and all sorts of carbs. It’s a hard habit to cut!
wow, that is a beautiful sunset. that is a great way of starting the day.
