Barnstorming? Oh, yes, barnstorming!

So, I have some exciting news!

Back in April, I received an email inviting me to enter for a chance to attend the first ever Stonyfield Farm Barnstorming Tour. Here’s how the email described it:

“This is a chance for you to get some mud on your boots””and learn first-hand why organic really is good for you and the planet. You’ll meet farmers who are true caretakers of the land and their animals, men and women who work hard every day to produce food for your table and your family. We’ve always believed they’re our everyday heroes – and you’ll feel the same way once you meet and talk with them. All questions welcome!”

Sounds pretty awesome, right?

Organic farming and farming practices have always been something that I’d love to learn more about. I actually grew up on a dairy farm until I was 12-years-old and my mom has worked for local farmstands in Massachusetts for almost my entire life, so farming is something that is near and dear to my heart. Plus, who doesn’t want to know where their food comes from?!

And, if the Barnstorming Tour wasn’t enough, the winners can donate $5,000 to the charity of their choice! For my charity of choice, I picked Back on My Feet, a nonprofit organization that “promotes the self-sufficiency of homeless populations by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem.” My charity of choice has nothing to do with organics (or even food), but it’s one that I really believe in. From a healthy living standpoint, I know what great things running (and exercise, in general) can do for one’s mind, body, and spirit, and I would love to be able to support this organization.

So, I applied for the Stonyfield Farm Barnstorming Tour, and I’m one of the ten finalists! Now, I need your help to be one of the top three to go on the trip. Voting started today and goes through May 25th. You can vote once per day per email address. Please vote for me!

Lunch

I think that I am getting the hang of this protein + fat thing! 😉

Today’s lunch was a big salad with romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes, carrots, red bell peppers, avocado, BBQ-flavored KooLoos, and balsamic vinegar. I also had a Pumpkin Pesto cracker on the side.

For something sweet after lunch, I went with some free strawberries and a few pieces of Taza Chocolate. It was an awesome flavor combination! 😀

Snack

Just now, I made myself my favorite new treat: whole wheat bread + hippy butter + caramel sauce. It’s delightful. I can’t seem to get enough of it!

With my piece of deliciousness, I drank a ChocoMint iced tea with almond milk.

Heading to Body Pump and then out to dinner with my wonderful and amazing webmaster.

Later gators! 😎
