Spring Flowers and Hemp Iced Coffee

Spring, I am so happy that you are finally here!

I ended up eating lunch at my desk this afternoon, but only because I wanted a little extra time to enjoy the gorgeous weather this afternoon.

Lunch recap: a Pink Lady apple, Stonyfield yogurt with pumpkin seeds, golden raisins, and walnuts, a Soy Joy bar, and tomato salad made with olive oil, ground fennel seeds, and feta.

Hemp Iced Coffee?

I’ve been trying to figure out how to incorporate more hemp protein into my diet– mostly because hemp protein has an excellent nutritional profile and I want it part of my life! 😉 I’ve toyed with the idea of mixing hemp protein into my daily cup of joe, but I wasn’t sure if it would work and if it would taste okay.

This afternoon, I purchased an iced coffee, added a spoonful of hemp protein, and then began to stir it in.

After about 15 seconds of vigorous stirring, I achieved hemp iced coffee success! 😀

With the addition of soy milk and a little agave nectar to my iced coffee, I couldn’t taste the hemp protein at all. There was a slight “chalky” aftertaste, but nothing too obvious.

I’m glad that I tried this little hemp protein-iced coffee experiment this afternoon! Hemp protein instantly “health-ifies” a regular, old iced coffee! I’m a big fan of this addition! I wonder if hot coffee works, too?

    I wish it were sunny here – our tulips have started blooming, but it’s gray and rainy right now 😐 I guess we need the rain!

  3. What a great idea, I have soy protein but next time will be buying hemp protein, I wonder if the soy protein would work, I’ll have to give that try one day.

  5. I bought this hemp powder as well and have added it to my breakfast cookies in the morning…which gives it a STRANGE color, but no taste difference 🙂

    Yay for spring. Two hours away from Boston, in Amherst, flowering are blooming as well!

  6. Hemp can be hard to disguise sometimes, but its pretty easy to sneak into baked goodies!! Glad it worked out with your coffee though! Amazing what a little agave and milk will do!

  7. I’m super glad your hemp protein powder experimentation was successful! I, on the other hand, just cannot get over that chalky business. I even tried regular hemp milk, and that was hard to stomach. Any suggestions as to how I can realize hemp’s amazingness?

  8. Ohh, we’re at the tail end of winter here in CO, I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of my own tulips 🙂 LOVE the pink lady with lunch, I have one almost every day.

  9. I’ve always had trouble getting that hemp powder to mix thoroughly. If you did it with iced coffee, I’m sure it would work well with a hot beverage.

    couldn’t get into them. The taste
    was so different. I saw someone
    eating one the other day-and admired
    them for being able to swallow it down.
