GAHHH! Somebody stop me! I want to register for a zillion races!
The exact same thing happened to me after the Arizona Marathon. My friend Monica even warned me not to go crazy, but I didn’t listen and ended up registering for 14 races after that. Fourteen races?! I am an insane person.
I already told myself I’m not going to register for so many races””mostly because it was a lot of time, travel, and money. My plan this time is only to register for really awesome races or ones that are close to home and super cheap. Here are some of the races that I am seriously considering:
Half at the Hamptons Half Marathon
Hampton Beach, NH, February 19, 2012
Old Fashioned 10 Miler
Foxboro, MA, February 19, 2012
Hyannis Half Marathon
Hyannis, MA, February 26, 2012
Rock ”˜N’ Roll USA Half Marathon* (aka National Half Marathon)
Washington, DC, March 17, 2012
Oleksak Lumber Half Marathon
Westfield, MA, April 1, 2012
Reach the Beach Relay
Wachusett to Westport, MA, May 18-19, 2012

Dinner
Dinner was make-your-own tacos, which were requested by my wonderful husband. Mal had a serious craving, so he asked me to pick up the ingredients for tacos. Mal, your wish is my command.
For dessert, I requested chocolate chip cookies. Once again, I tried to healthify the recipe.
Healthier Chocolate Chip Cookies
Makes 15-18 cookies
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup ground flaxseed meal
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350*F.
- Combine all ingredients in a large bowl; mix well.
- Use a tablespoon to portion batter, roll it into balls, and flatten on a greased baking sheet, approximately 1-2 inches apart.
- Bake cookies for 12-15 minutes.
- Remove cookies from baking sheet and allow to cool on wire rack.
- Eat and enjoy!
The flavor of these cookies was spot-on, but the texture was a little bit dry. Mal really liked them, so I guess they pass the cookie test.
Breakfast
This morning’s breakfast was sunflower butter, banana slices, chopped dates, and chia seeds on a whole wheat wrap.
On the side: iced coffee. I added coconut milk to it this morning. Mmm!
Be Thankful Challenge
I’m thankful for magazines. Not online magazines or those in tablet form. Real live magazines with pages that turn. I will forever love them.
Question of the Day
What are your favorite road races? I’m looking for suggestions!
P.S. I’m hosting a giveaway on Trading Up Downtown for some Irish-style oats and a fun bowl!

I had the same thing happen to me after my first marathon last month. Luckily, I snapped out of it and remembered that I did not like running outdoors in Chicago in January.
If you are ever in Chi town, check out the soldier field 10 miler. It’s pretty cool to finish on the 50 yard line!
I am debating about the national half marathon, and depending on what happens with my contract I need to find a few more halfs for early next year… but I am thinking some of them need to be in warmer weather destinations 🙂
I am the same way about registering for races.
I’m running the Half at the Hamptons!! That would be so cool if you ran it too!! 🙂
I think I may do the Reach the Beach relay too! My friend has had a team the past two years. I think this year is my year!
Chopped dates in a breakfast wrap, interestinggggggggggg…must try! I love magazines too, and use them as ‘special occasion’ purchases when I’m traveling or just need to check out mentally for a lil while, otherwise I’d spend entirely too much money on them 🙂
I’m also running the National Half Marathon on St. Patty’s day! Yahoo! Should be a good one 🙂
I will be in DC for my first marathon! A whole bunch of online friends from a group called Fabulous Fitness will be there too for the half so it will be an interesting weekend for me! I am a fan of the Philadelphia Broad Street Run. It is 10 miles, one direction straight down Broad Street, ending in the Navy Yard. Last year, it sold out in less than 4 days so if you are considering it, sign up for the registration email reminder! The race is typically the first weekend in May. The expo is small and they do not donate to any causes which makes the registration fee like $30. Just an idea!
I also plan on doing the Atlantic City April Fool’s Day 11K just because its silly (there is also a 7K and a half that day) but AC is nothing too exciting to me (since I live 10 minutes away!)
