When I opened the door to take Murphy for his afternoon walk, I did not expect to see snow on the ground. Where did those come from? First flakes of the year! šÆ
This year, I’ve absolutely loved winter in Boston. It’s been SO WARM! It was 60 degrees and sunny in November and I ran outside in shorts and a t-shirt at the end of October! Crazy, but awesome!
But, now, I think winter is āofficiallyāĀ here. Wicked bummer. But,Ā I guess I could deal with a White Christmas!
Despite the wintery weather, the pug couldn’t wait to get outside and stretch his little doggie legs.
So, Mal and I headed out for a 45-minute walk with him around the neighborhood. I was chilly by the end, but it wasn’t that bad. Maybe I finally learned how to properly dress for winter? š
Dinner
It was dinnertime when we returned, so I whipped up a very convenient meal. I’m not sure it gets any easier than this!
I made a box of rice pilaf on the stovetop.
Nuked some broccoli florets in the microwave. (Just add a splash of water, cover, and cook on high for 3 minutes.)
Added about a tablespoon of olive oil + two tablespoons of Wildtree Scampi BlendĀ + 3/4 of pound of shrimp to a skillet.
Then, I tossed it all together with some spring mix.
Viola! Easiest meal ever!
Off to look for something sweet!
Tomorrow is (Cookie) FRIDAY!!!

I totally learned how to dress in the snow real fast in MD. Stay warm š
That meals does look good! And easy! A white Christmas is always a good thing!
Oh how I wish it snowed in Florida! I officially need to move!
I love easy dinners like that! Looking forward to cookie friday š
dog + winter weather is always entertaining! My puppy slides around on the ice and sticks her nose in the snow every time I take her out.
Stay warm up there š
It’s funny that you say you have loved winter so much this year. I was thinking about you this morning and how last year you said you had the winter blues. I am definitely suffering from the winter blues. It has been gross here and it seems like it has been this way for a while. Atlanta did not have the best fall. While the weather was unseasonable warm, it took a turn for the worse and it just dreary. We had tons of ice on the roads and gray skies tonight…not pretty. I don’t mind the cold…I just need light in my life!
You’re so lucky to have some snow! We got nothin’ here!
That dinner looks good and easy–two things I like. š
My kind of dinner! Love quick and easy meals, and anything with shrimp is alright with me!
Oh, I am so not envious of your snow! I’m getting my first summer in two years, and the heat is glorious! š
ooooh, how easy is that meal you made? i love quick meals
i remember that rice pilaf – one of the first things i learned to “cook” in high school!
I’m so jealous! I want snow too!
I’m definitely dreaming of a White Christmas… š
We got a dusting of snow, too. The only difference is that MA knows how to plow and down here in DC it’s freakout time at the sight of the first flurry!
Can’t wait to see what cookies you make. I was just thinking today that I want to find some new cookie recipes to make this week for Christmas.
It’s nice that you’ve had such a mild winter so far, I’m sure it definitely helps with the marathon training! I couldn’t imagine doing long runs out in the cold here (western NY), we’ve gotten slammed with snow.
I like the looks of that meal. i don’t make dishes with shrimp enough. Looks delicious.
That is a nice simple meal, and very nutritious.
Very similar to our dinner last night! And I love Far East AND Wildtree š
We had a really simple meal too….leftover homemade pizza š I adore easy dinners!
Snow is so beautiful — I wouldn’t mind it so much if the temperatures weren’t so cold š
I’m visiting the DC area and we got snow today! It started snowing about 30 minutes after I came in from my run (whew!). I’m from Florida so I don’t see snow often so I was pretty excited! š
We’ve gotten at least 40 cm of snow so far! As pretty as it is, it makes driving & commuting a complete nightmare!
I’m so jealous of your weather! My car is currently buried under 2 feet of snow. š
Winter starts at anything below 60F for me š I grew up in MN and IL but honestly am such a lightweight now after yrs in warm states!
Yum, that dinner looks delicious!
I walked out this morning and I felt warm too. I guess my down jacket is doing the job! š
yum, what a great, easy meal!
winter in cleveland got a late start this year too, but now it’s definitely in full swing. we got a bunch of snow earlier this week, and i think it’s here to stay!
It’s still fall. Winter starts Dec 21.
Nothing beats an easy/delicious dinner!!!

@Paul E Wogg: If you live in Boston, you know “winter” starts in October!
i almost forgot about cookie friday, yay:-)
It’s finally gotten cold in PA too!! And there’s a sprinkling of snow as well. I like this weather for about a month but by my birthday at the end of January I just want spring already!!
As an avid and devoted reader, I have to say that it’s pretty frustrating to see your quotation marks incorrectly used so often. In this post (“officially”) and so many others, there is no need for it.
Sorry if this comes off as rude or irrelevant, but it’s quite a blog turn-off to see such frequent improper grammar.
@Jess: Why is that use incorrect?
I’m in Cambridge, MA and it was actually kind of sunny yesterday afternoon. No snow on this side of Boston! Weird!
I really like your boots in that first picture? Would you be willing to share the brand? š
P.S. I would argue that your use of “officially” was indeed appropriate.
@Erin D.!:
this isn’t a jab, this is just about proper grammar. It wasn’t used as a quote, a reference, or irony. It was just an improper proxy for italics or underlining.
haha who cares if you use quotation marks in the wrong place anyways!!! Out of your whole post, THATS what they comment on–wow.
Moving on…
As a Bostonian too…its SO cold and winter has “officially’ began for sure! š
@Erin D.!: They’re UGGS!
@jess: You forgot to capitalize the “T” at the beginning of your sentence! š
Whoa that group of pictures presented a serious optical illusion for me. I must have starred at least a minute!
I’m jealous of your warm (so far) Winter. I think ours has been the coldest yet!
