Sooooooo, I’m running a half marathon on Saturday. I should probably run or something like that, huh? I have a couple of short runs planned for this week, but, at this point, it’s too late to really train for this thing. I just need to hope for the best, have fun, and listen to my body on race day. I’m pretty confident I’ll finish. It just might not be very pretty. Oh, well. There will be more races.

Workout

Well, hello, running shoes. Long time, no see! I missed you.

Hey, Garmin and Spibelt. Missed you guys, too. It’s been awhile, huh?

I was actually a little nervous about running this morning. I hadn’t run in 15 days, which is a long time for me, so I really wasn’t sure how things would go. I planned to run 5 miles, so I got myself together and headed outside to load up my Garmin. Just as I was about to take off running, I found a nickel in my driveway.

A nickel? Yep. I saw it as a sign from the Universe (5 miles, 5 cents).

Ok, I know it’s just a nickel, but it said to me: 5 miles is a good idea and things will be okay. Maybe it’s a stretch (it probably is), but it meant something to me this morning, so I picked it up and put it in my Spibelt for good luck on my run.

After finding that nickel, another sign came my way. When I turned on Pandora on my iPhone, the first song that played was my favorite song of the moment. To me, it confirmed that running 5 miles would turn out alright (and perhaps I’d finish the Rock ‘N’ Roll USA Half Marathon in one piece).

And, you know what, my run went much better than expected! I felt happy and strong, and I kept a good pace for the entire 5 miles.

  • Mile 1: 8:34
  • Mile 2: 8:30
  • Mile 3: 8:33
  • Mile 4: 8:26
  • Mile 5: 8:28

Total: 42:33 (8:30 pace)

Not bad. I’ll take it. I’m planning one more run for later this week””mostly just to get my legs ready and boost my confidence for Saturday’s race.

Do you look for signs in everyday life? Do you ever think the Universe is trying to tell you something?

Breakfast

Before heading out for my run, I ate breakfast. There were a couple of leftover OMG Pancakes from yesterday morning’s breakfast, so I reheated them in the microwave and then added some banana slices and sunflower butter to both pancakes. I love layering my nut butters between my pancakes (er, that sounds dirty for some reason). On the side, I drank an iced coffee with sunflower milk.

Lunch

After my run, I threw together a quick lunch with random leftovers from the refrigerator. I started with a salad topped with chicken, brown rice, scallions, truffle oil, and balsamic vinegar.

On the side, I had some Zucchini Fries. I used this recipe to make them, but then broiled them for 5 minutes at the very end to give them a little crispiness.

Snack

A little while after I ate lunch, I whipped up a Coconut-Kale Smoothie as an afternoon snack. Love. this. smoothie.

I’m off to walk the pug and then get started on dinner. Enjoy the evening, blog friends!

  1. i’m running the dc half on saturday also, and i have the same feelings…i should probably have been running per hal, right? but then i say, that running and training i did for the last fall full probably carries over…no? fail. at least it’s st. patty’s day and gorgeous weather.
