This morning, Mal picked “share your favorite Christmas memory” for our 24 Days of Togetherness. It was an easy one, so we chatted about it while we ate breakfast.

Mine: The year I still believed in Santa and got Nintendo for Christmas.

His: Laying at the top of the stairs with his sister and trying to see their presents downstairs near the Christmas tree before their parents woke up.

Sharing our favorite Christmas memories over breakfast this morning was such a nice way to start the day. I’m really enjoying our 24 Days of Togetherness and look forward to picking a new activity every morning. It’s actually the first thing I think about when I wake up!

This morning’s breakfast was a pumpkin pancake (that totally fell apart) with sunflower butter and a banana with (a ridiculous amount of) Teddie peanut butter. (I ate it, sliced up, in a mug.) I also drank a glass of Marylou’s Milky Way coffee with (boring) almond milk.

After breakfast, I did some Christmas shopping online, which took me all of 20 minutes. I knew exactly what I wanted to buy, and I only had a few people to shop for this year (both sides of our family picked names), so I was finished in no time at all. I only had one more present to buy, which I couldn’t buy online (well, I could, but I didn’t want to pay for shipping), so I headed to the Derby Street Shoppes to purchase it. I was in and out of the store in minutes and completely DONE with my holiday shopping. Who am I? Usually, I wait to the very last minute to do my shopping!

Once I finished my holiday shopping, I popped into Whole Foods to pick up some eggnog. I was happy to see they had a number of options in stock!

When I got home, I decided to take Murphy to the dog park. It was such a beautiful day (50 degrees in December), I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get outside with my favorite furry friend.

After the park, I came home and made lunch, which was a turkey burger with BBQ sauce, mashed sweet potatoes, and steamed spinach. It was a fabulous meal all around.

And now I’m sipping on an iced coffee with SO Delicious Nog Coconut Milk. You guys were right about how delicious it is. I took my first sip (straight from the carton) and actually said “damnnnn” out loud because it tasted so amazing. It’s like real eggnog (sweet and creamy), but not as heavy. I’m a big fan.

  1. My adult life had been full of daily struggles and Christmas 2011 was no different being a signal mom of three children, two whom lived at home with me , my oldest son was spending yet another Christmas in jail and it was tearing me apart. It was extremely hard on my family I had to come of work due to depression late September and had been turned down to receive EI benefits and was patiently waiting for social services to help.
But that Christmas was different because there are truly angles out there a week before the holidays I had picked my Christmas hamper from the salvation army due to my kids ages they weren’t eligible for gifts that year my son was 15 and my daughter 17,I did however receive my Christmas dinner little as it was. I sat looking at what was in my hamper thinking how was this going to last over the holiday season. The depression I had left work for had gotten worse because of my currant situation .I felt like I was on a road of no return but as it turned out that year became the best Christmas I ever had. I checked the mail that same day hoping that social services would send something to buy more grocery’s and a gift for my kids . My son checked the mail came back the car handed me an envelope it wasn’t the check I was waiting for but it was something from an anonymous person there was money gift cards and a gas card. It was grocery’s and a little something for kids for Christmas morning I was beyond grateful.
But the generosity didn’t stop there people knew my situation and helped the school gave us a Christmas hamper loaded with everything from treats to grocery’s , and Christmas eve night a family in our community showed up at our place bearing gifts for the whole family I cried myself to sleep that night with mixed emotions but it truly was the best Christmas my family has had .Every Christmas since that year that family always shows up with gifts for us and the last two years my granddaughter had lived with me and that same family delivered gifts for her as well someday I hope to give back what has been given and my family.I swore that I would do the same someday to some needy family but unfortunately my situation hasn’t changed enough to help personally ,but I am an active volunteer in my community and every day I try to make a difference in someone’s life .
