Mal and I watched the marathon from American Craft on Beacon Street, which is right on the running route.

American Craft had a special Marathon Monday menu, which featured your typical “grillables” (aka hot dogs and hamburgers). Mal ended up ordering a cheeseburger for lunch, but I held out until we went to the Publick House for my favorite paper bag of French fries. πŸ˜‰

I started my day with a wonderful Bloody Mary. It was super spicy (just the way I like them) with wasabi and hot sauce. Loved it!

At the 3 hour mark, the crowds of runners made their way down Beacon Street. This is my favorite part of the day.

  1. What a great perch for watching! Sounds like quite the day. The amount of adrenaline and excitement is extremely palpable during events like marathons. So inspiring, I agree.

  2. What a wonderful day it looked like you and the hubs had!! That picture of you is adorable!!! I knew someone from my church that ran Boston today and came in right under 3 hours!!! So proud to know someone that ran it! Maybe I’ll run it someday. πŸ™‚

  3. I always feel so inspired when I watch the marathon too. Especially the wheelchair division, they’re incredible. We watched at mile 22 right after heartbreak hill, so they were really pushing and struggling when we saw them.

  4. Girl, it must be a Boston thing, but I agree with you 100% – Marathon Monday truly IS the best day of the year! I cry, I laugh, I scream until I’m hoarse (I drink beer on a Monday πŸ˜‰ its the best day!
My girlfriends and I were down by the Pour House – and with .20 to go; its amazing the emotion on people’s faces; pain, elation, laughter, and when Mom or Dad grabs their little one from the sideline to have them “run them in” – I seriously start sobbing – its just an amazing day!! Glad you got to enjoy it!

  5. Ooh! I was blinded by the Southern Tier beers on tap. You gotta try them–their pumpkin and mokah brews are to die for!

I say get a good trainer and physical therapist and try to train for the 2011 Boston Marathon. You’ll never know whether it’s possible if you don’t try!

  6. Very, very cool. How fun that you and Mal were able to grab a great seat to see all the action up-close. I’d love to go up and watch one year. A great atmosphere in Boston. I’ve been to DC’s Marine Corps Marathon a few times to cheer on my dad — yes, my DAD is a marathoner and I’ve never run more than 5 miles! πŸ˜‰

  7. That is SOOO cool you got to be there and watch! I watched the videos of the guy winning and it was quite outstanding. I can imagine it was even more emotional seeing it in person. Thanks for getting awesome pics!

  8. Ah races are so inspiring- to participate in and observe! My qualified for Boston in 2008, so I think my eligibility expired this year… Definitely something I would like to do someday!

  9. I hope next year is your year! That would be awesome. I think it’s great that you enjoy watching so much. I definitely want to be able to be in a marathon in the next few years. I guess I should go watch one first, right??

  10. I love that you were able to enjoy the day so genuinely despite the obstacles in the way of your doing it right now. You’re very open-hearted πŸ™‚

  11. Too funny, I watched part of it from American Craft too! Love it there. It was my first Marathon Monday since moving to Boston – what a great day!! πŸ™‚

  12. Fabulous photos from a fabulous day! I was equally inspired. Minutes ago I registered for the Amica Marathon in Newport – 10/17/10. Hopefully it will prepare me for Boston! Those runners made it all seem possible!

  13. Must have been amazing and I’m so GLAD Mal was able to watch with you whether or not it’s easy for him to take the day off. After all, it’s your favorite day of the year! Thanks for the recap and great pics! I watched Chicago last year and it amazed and inspired me too. Chicago is my goal…by 40 πŸ™‚

  14. @Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday: In Mass., especially in and around Boston, Marathon Monday aka Patriots Day is a holiday where many businesses and public schools are closed. It also coincides with many of the schools spring vacations. My bf is a teacher in Mass, has this week off, always spectates the marathon…lucky guy!

  15. I’m running Chicago this October! I’m so excited and ready! Seeing those pictures get me even more pumped!

  16. Tina, you should definitely never lose sight of this goal! I am sure you noticed that there were runners of all ages … if not next year… run the next yr or the next. I ran my first half marathon in the fall and I remember looking at the results in the days after and noticing SO MANY finishers in their 40s, late 50’s. You are young and healthy and very active…if you can dream it you can acheive it! Not to be super cheesy or anything πŸ˜‰

ANYWAYS look like you thoroughly enjoyed your favorite day! So fun to see and read about! Thanks for the great post

  17. LOVED the recap! πŸ™‚ I live in Nebraska and didn’t get to watch (because they CHARGED to watch online this year), so I really enjoyed the pictures. I think that if you really put your mind to it (and your hip cooperates), you can TOTALLY do Boston one day!!!!!!!!

  18. What an awesome day! I think marathon Monday might be the only day of the year I wouldn’t mind living in Boston. (As a hard core Yankee fan, I just couldn’t manage :))

  19. My neighbor ran the Boston marathon today for the first time! πŸ™‚ she finished in 5 hours 45 minutes! you can def. do it next year! πŸ™‚

  20. The women’s race was insane yet again this year! I can’t believe how close they were! Perfect weather for the runners, minus the wind. Oh and I almost went to Publick House but there was a 45 minute wait. πŸ™
