Today = Greatest Day of the Year!

Mal and I watched the marathon from American Craft on Beacon Street, which is right on the running route.

American Craft had a special Marathon Monday menu, which featured your typical “grillables” (aka hot dogs and hamburgers). Mal ended up ordering a cheeseburger for lunch, but I held out until we went to the Publick House for my favorite paper bag of French fries. 😉

I started my day with a wonderful Bloody Mary. It was super spicy (just the way I like them) with wasabi and hot sauce. Loved it!

At the 3 hour mark, the crowds of runners made their way down Beacon Street. This is my favorite part of the day.

I left the marathon feeling so inspired by these runners. Maybe next year is my year?

  1. Thanks for cheering us on!!!! I totally ran passed you but was on the opposite side. If you want to really do this race you should consider running for a charity.
I also want to say that I’ve enjoyed my stay here in your city and every person (with the exception of like three people) have been really friendly. Oh I also want to say that my husband and I went to Modern pastry and I think it might be way better than Mike’s. Just saying.

  2. My 12 year old daughter ran the L.A. Marathon a few weeks ago!! Today, she informed me that she plans on running the Boston Marathon next year!!
    …talk about inspiring!!!

  3. I ran my first Boston yesterday, and I just want to thank you and all the other spectators for coming out and being so supportive of the runners. It definitely made it a special experience. I loved all the little kids as well as adults who stood out there rooting us on, giving high fives, and giving out orange slices, wet sponges, tissues, water, and more. So much pain today, but so much fun yesterday!! I say chase your dream of running Boston. I plan on coming back for more! 🙂

  4. I saw some comments asking about Mal just taking the day off work. Don’t all teachers get this day off?! I know most of my MA friends had it off, unfortunatley my company doesn’t honor patriots day (bummer) so i’ve never gotten to experience this day. Looks like a a blast I especially love your American Craft pics!

  5. I promise you it is truly amazing to run it! This was my 5th Boston and I still get choked up at points, of course the best part is making that final turn onto Boylston and seeing the finishing line banners….. I really had to focus as I approached the finish as I almost hyperventilate I get so overwhelmed!

  6. Hey Tina, I have to ask this… where did you get that sweater you’re wearing in your picture in this post? I could only see the collar, but I love it!

    Thanks!

  7. Ooh, that looked like a super fun place to watch the race! Now I’m thirsty! Ah, I love marathons (both watching them and running them). The intensity of marathoners is just so inspiring.

  8. Love the pictures of the marathon from my neighborhood! I was stuck at work, but so glad I got to see your pictures of what it was like around here! It looks like you’ve been in Coolidge/Wash Sq. quite a bit the last couple days! Hope your fries at the Pub. House didn’t disappoint!

  9. ahhh i was visiting a friend in boston, and it turns out we were SO CLOSE to you guys! we were at a friends apartment down the street from the athans chocolatier in your pictures! and i can’t believe you were at publick house – we almost went there and backed out at the last second. crazy! glad you had a good time… that was my first marathon monday and it was amazing!
