After publishing my breakfast post, I had a sudden urge to go outside for a run. I’m planning to go to Body Pump tonight, so I already had my workout covered for the day, but the beautiful weather was just calling my name. The combination of sunshine + light breeze was perfect for a morning jog. So, I threw on my sneakers, grabbed my Garmin, and headed out for a run. I ran 3 miles in 25:52 (8:37 pace), which was a nice, relaxing run for me.

When I returned from my run, I took Murphy out for a walk. I figured he’d like to enjoy the wonderful weather, too! 😉 We covered 0.65 miles in about 14 minutes.

Lunch

I felt like lunch was all over the place today. I had a little of this and a little of that, but somehow it all worked. In the mix: homemade salad, leftover pita pizza, Siggi’s blueberry yogurt with Raisin Bran, and an orange.

I’m so excited to kickoff this series! I love the Marathon Monday, so what better way to celebrate than profiling its participants, right!?! So, without further ado, here are your runners! (I’ll continue to profile runners from now until April 18th, so if you’d like to be featured, please email me your info.)

I am running Boston for the third straight year! It is hard to believe. It will actually be my sixth marathon and fourth Boston. More important to me, it is my third marathon since being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. When I was diagnosed, I thought my running career was over, but I have actually improved. I also have become a running coach in this time, and I train runners to complete the Hingham Road Race. It is only 4.6 miles, but for many of my runners, it is their very first race!

Ben

  • Age: 26
  • Location: Brighton, MA
  • # of marathons: I qualified for Boston by running the 2007 Philadelphia Marathon in 2:59:23. I ran Boston in 2008 but collapsed at mile 24 due to dehydration. I woke up under the medical tent and demanded that the EMT’s let me finish, and when I tried to stand up I passed out again. They brought me to the ER. In 2009 I was signed up, but had to defer because I was injured, so I can’t wait to run – and finish in 2010! In between marathons I’ve been running a lot of half marathons (Boston, New York, San Francisco), which I absolutely love.

It has been a special tradition with our family for the past few years with either me or my mom running or both of us! This year both my mom and I will be running, I am so happy she will be running it again after 2 years without her heading to the start with me. We started running together back when I was 16 and she was 50, we never dreamed of doing marathons and were so proud of ourselves when we completed our first 5K. Now 15 years later, we both have run 12 marathons and have qualified for Boston multiple times (after thinking I NEVER could do it!). I am so inspired by my mom, whenever people say they are impressed with how many marathons I have done, I tell them about my mom. I would look like a slacker if I didn’t run marathons, if my 65-year-old mother can do it so can I!
