Running News

I have some good running news and some bad running news to share. You ready for it?

Good news: I ran 5 miles in my new sneakers with almost zero pain! Hooray!

I did a 5-mile Tempo Run outside, which included a mile warm-up, three miles at 8:39 pace, and a mile cool down:

  • Mile 1: 9:22
  • Mile 2: 8:36
  • Mile 3: 8:36
  • Mile 4: 8:45
  • Mile 5: 9:41

After running three miles at 8:39 pace, I was totally spent. The final mile of my run was especially tough– I even stopped to walk for a little bit. Even still, it was a good workout. I’m just happy to be running again!

Ok, ready for the bad news?

Wah. I’m bummed that I wasn’t selected for the New York City Marathon, but, at the same time, I’m sort of relieved. I’m not sure that I’m ready to run another marathon quite yet. But, we’ll see. Never say never!

After my run, I whipped up a Banana-Strawberry smoothie. Also in the mix: almond milk, sunflower butter, vanilla protein powder, and ground flaxseed meal.

P.S. Don’t be jealous of our dirt backyard. Looks good, doesn’t it?

While sipping my smoothie, I got busy in the kitchen making brownies for a family dinner at my sister’s house this evening. I made a complete mess of the kitchen, but it was worth it in the end.

I made my Brownies with a Secret recipe from my book!

Once they finished baking, I sampled two. So delicious!

I’m off! Lots of errands to do before dinner! See ya!

      1. @Tina: they must have shut it down due to volume 🙁 now it’s saying we can check back in at 10am tomorrow morning. im so anxious (although I’m well aware theres about a 1 in 6 chance of getting in haha). sorry you didnt get in, but congrats on your awesome run!

  1. Tina, if you–or anyone else wants to do the NYC ING marathon–you can get a slot with Citymeals-on-Wheels. Email me if you are interested.

  2. Those t-shirts are so cute! Especially the pug but that figures…

I actually got in… I am running the NYC marathon, I am still in shock…

  3. Sorry to hear about the marathon, but great news on your run! I think you should keep trying because that would be SUCH an experience. Hopefully you can do it next year! And FABULOUS looking brownies!

  4. Love the “Run for Beer” shirt! I would totally wear that.

That bums about the NY Marathon. If you want to still run one this fall, Cape Cod has a good one! My husband ran it in 2006. 🙂

  5. I definitely need to pick up your book! I want to know these secret recipes! Those brownies look fantastic! 🙂 I love the shirts! They are so cute!

  6. That’s too bad about the non-selection, but as you said, possibly a blessing.

The brownies..oh they look awesome!! just a couple days ago i was soliciting readers to chime in with their fave brownie recipe ever b/c I need a showstopper recipe. I think i need to go buy your book 🙂

  7. I love the pug shirt! So cute! I didn’t get into the NYC marathon either. I was really hoping I would! Looks like I’ll be doing savannah rnr!

  8. Those brownies look wonderful! I can’t wait to try the recipe from your book. You just ran a marathon, so I’m sure this is just fate sending you a sign that you need to wait a little more to do it again 🙂

  9. Sorry you didn’t get in 🙁 What a bummer.

However the brownies would have definitely made me feel better!!! As soon as I see your Book in the UK i’ll be getting it!

  10. I ran NY this year. After three years of rejections, I finally made it in. I just ran other marathons in the meantime and then enjoyed the experience when it did happen for me. You’ll get there.
