I have some good running news and some bad running news to share. You ready for it?
Good news: I ran 5 miles in my new sneakers with almost zero pain! Hooray!
I did a 5-mile Tempo Run outside, which included a mile warm-up, three miles at 8:39 pace, and a mile cool down:
- Mile 1: 9:22
- Mile 2: 8:36
- Mile 3: 8:36
- Mile 4: 8:45
- Mile 5: 9:41
After running three miles at 8:39 pace, I was totally spent. The final mile of my run was especially tough– I even stopped to walk for a little bit. Even still, it was a good workout. I’m just happy to be running again!
Ok, ready for the bad news?
Wah. I’m bummed that I wasn’t selected for the New York City Marathon, but, at the same time, I’m sort of relieved. I’m not sure that I’m ready to run another marathon quite yet. But, we’ll see. Never say never!
Lunch
After my run, I whipped up a Banana-Strawberry smoothie. Also in the mix: almond milk, sunflower butter, vanilla protein powder, and ground flaxseed meal.
P.S. Don’t be jealous of our dirt backyard. Looks good, doesn’t it?
While sipping my smoothie, I got busy in the kitchen making brownies for a family dinner at my sister’s house this evening. I made a complete mess of the kitchen, but it was worth it in the end.
I made my Brownies with a Secret recipe from my book!
Once they finished baking, I sampled two. So delicious!
CNC T-Shirt Shop
I added some new t-shirts to my Carrots āĖN’ Cake Shop! Check āĖem out!
I’m off! Lots of errands to do before dinner! See ya!

Bummer about the marathon, but bonus on the run! I just entered the lottery for St. George marathon and crossing my fingers to get in!
I’m sorry you didn’t get into the marathon. But love your positive attitude. Hope you have a wonderful time with your family…. and those brownies! š
Mkay…I keep meaning to buy your book, and now after seeing your brownies and hearing about this secret recipe…must. buy. now. š
Sorry you didn’t get selected Tina! There’s always next time though. š
LOVE that pug shirt!
Yeah…..marathons are a big commitment! Fun t-shirts.
Awesome job with the 5 miler – if you keep it up I am sure you will be running it next year! You are getting faster everyday š
You’re hitting so many amazing running goals yourself, you don’t need any big organisation to validate your success anyway š
LOVE your CNC tshirts! do you have plans to add men’s sizes anytime soon? I know some gents who would love some of these.. š
@Ella: Sure! I will add some right now!
@Tina: Here you go: http://266236.spreadshirt.com/
Glad you were nearly pain free today! Question for whenever you get a chance–how do you stay on pace when you do a tempo run outside? I feel like I would be constantly looking at my watch trying to figure out if I was at the right pace. Would love to know your tips! Thanks! š
@Melissa: I use my Garmin! š
“will run for beer”…gotta love that!
A great pain-free run and brownies? Sounds like a good day to me!
Sorry you didn’t make it to the NYC Marathon, its ok.
Your brownies look amazing… i love that slightly wrinkle effect in brownies.

Woohoo for the pain free run!
Those brownies look so good š Love the tees – esp the puggie one!!
Love the pug T. It’s adorable! I really just want the brownies though… well, both really.
cute tees!
I keep trying to check if I got selected for the marathon, but just get a page saying that my profile won’t be accessible until tomorrow morning at 10am!? Not quite sure if I want to get in or not… In any case, I have a five-mile tempo run tomorrow & hoping to keep to a 9.5 min mile pace. I admire your speed!
Just figured it out – I didn’t get selected either š Boo.
Le sigh…next year for NY…next year!
YAY for brownies!!! Especially YOUR brownies! š
will run for bagels AND beer?
So sorry about the NYC marathon! But, like you said, maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.
I also love the pug tee!
Sorry to hear about the marathon! But you are so lucky you’re at the point in your running career where you can even consider such an incredibly challenging race. You have done so many great races lately, that’s something to be proud of š
Sucks about the marathon. You should have called them and just said ‘don’t you know who I am?!’ haha. Awesome new shirts too!
Sorry about the marathon but it sounds like you had a great run! You’re convincing me that maybe my knee pain has a little to do with my sneakers and maybe a new pair ASAP is a really good idea. š
LOVE the Will Run For Beer shirt. š
Sucks about the marathon. š How ’bout some good news? Ordering your book today! Was at B&N the other night and looked for it but didn’t see it. If I was the Carrots ‘n Cake book, where would you shelve me? (Asks the librarian!)
I am super sorry that you did not get in– run the Philly marathon!
