Hello, hello!
I had the opportunity to go on a “shoppe-ing” spree at Vitamin Shoppe earlier this week and it was quite a lot of fun. I went to the Hingham location in the Shipyard where Will, a Vitamin Shoppe Health Enthusiast, helped me find all of the items on my list and then gave me some great ideas for new products to try.
I told Will that I was a runner, so he kept that in mind as he made recommendations, so between the two of us, I ended up with an awesome haul of products that will help me both as a runner and athlete. That said, here’s what I picked as my runner favorites from the Vitamin Shoppe!
But, first, I need to tell you guys about the big BOGO sale happening at the Vitamin Shoppe right now! From now until May 9th, all Vitamin Shoppe and BodyTech brand products are buy one, get one 50% off, in-store and online. (Discount taken on a 2nd item of equal or lesser value.) FYI: Vitamin Shoppe is on Ebates, which means soooo many savings! Yeehaw!
Quest Bars – We love Quest Bars in our house, so these were on the top of my list. They’re the perfect snack for when you want a little something sweet (heated up in the microwave, of course), and they’re loaded with protein so they’re a great post-workout treat too. At Vitamin Shoppe, you can make your own mix pack of flavors for the same price as a box of a single flavor. How cool is that?!
Cod liver oil – This was also on my shopping list. I typically buy the cod liver oil from Green Pasture (here’s why I like it), but I decided to give the Vitamin Shoppe brand a try. It’s not fermented, but it’s gluten-, dairy-, soy-, and nut-free as well. (Here’s a helpful post about the difference between fermented cod liver oil and un-fermented cod liver oil.) It’s also buy one, get one 50% right now!
Smoothie mix-ins – Even though these were on my shopping list, I didn’t end up buying the smoothie ingredients that I originally had in mind (i.e. chia seeds, flaxseeds, hemp hearts), but only because I found other fun products instead. Even still, I wanted to mention them since Vitamin Shoppe has all sorts of great options to boost the nutrient value of your smoothies.
Vitamin Shoppe brand chia seeds are buy one, get one 50% off, so if you bought some now, you wouldn’t need to restock for quite awhile. Holy chia seeds!
Garden of Life Organic Plant Protein – A new favorite! I actually just blogged about this the other day. I didn’t end up getting some this time, but only because Will suggested another product that he thought I might like.
Amazing Grass Green Superfood – Will said he uses the chocolate flavor in his smoothies and really likes it, so I decided to try it out. There’s all sorts of healthy stuff inside, and I drink protein shakes a few times a week, so I figured I could throw in a scoop for some added nutrients. I tried it yesterday morning for the first time and really liked it. It’s not too “grassy” with a good amount of chocolate flavor. I definitely plan to keep on using it.
GU – I already had a small stash of GU at home, so I only grabbed a couple more packets for future training. I have a half marathon on my calendar in June!
Nuun – I love this stuff so much and drink it all the time, so I bought another tube of Nuun. The Vitamin Shoppe had a few new flavors that I haven’t tried yet, so I went with the Wild Berry flavor.
ALLTHESNACKS – When you’re running a lot, you need fuel. For me, this means snacks all the time, so I asked Will for a few new recommendations and here’s what he suggested: Epic Bites Uncured Bacon (tasty – just like bacon), The Complete Cookie (LOVE SO MUCH AND CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT), Bonk Breaker Almond Cherry Chunk (reminded me of a Quest Bar – delicious heated up), and 22 Days Nutrition Walnut Fudge Brownie (my pick and it was just okay).
Question of the Day
