Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

Mal and I eat 12-mile runsย for breakfast! ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s crazy to think that 12 miles is now considered a “recovery” run. After running 14 miles last weekend, 12 miles seemed easier, but it’s still 12 miles! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

The best part about today’s run was tackling the G Street hill. I ran up the entire thing without stopping. It was glorious!! I still can’t believe that I did it, especially after how much trouble it gave me the first time.

On today’s run, I tested out some Sport Beans. Flavor-wise, I liked them. But, it took me for-ever to eat them. Around mile 6.5, I stopped, fumbled around, and took a solid 5 minutes to eat them one by one. Meh. I still like the Honey Stinger the best.

I finished 12 miles in 1:51:02 (average pace 9:15).

After saying goodbye to our team, Mal and I went to look at furniture. We’re all about the consignment and antique stuff, so we did some window shopping at bunch of different shops in Southie and the South End.

We found a number of pieces that we really liked.

I think we’re definitely going back for this one!

Mal and I took a quick break from furniture shopping to refuel with second breakfast. (I ate my usual peanut butter + banana sandwich before running this morning.) We stopped by P.S. Gourmet to grab iced coffees and egg sandwiches.

With our bellies full, we visited a couple more furniture stores.

Mal fell in love with this arm chair. We might go back for this piece too!

I really loved this dresser, but it cost $700. ๐Ÿ˜• But, it gave me a great DIY idea!

Heading out for puppy playtime!

Enjoy the day!!! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  1. I can’t wait until Jason and I get a new house and really decorate. I love antique shops and I love finding really unique pieces! That tall dresser is so beautiful!

Great job on your run! And yes, it is amazing when 12 or even 16 miles is a recovery run! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. That antique furniture is beautiful! I know exactly what you mean about a 12 mile “recovery” run during marathon training seeming weird! Marathon training makes some long distance runs seem sooo short, even though it’s still 12 miles!! Congrats on your run!

  3. I just love going antiquing to see what treasures I might find! What fun the two of you must be having, picking out new furniture for your new house.
Great accomplishment on your run up the hill. I dread hills, they’re SO tough for me!

  4. Congrats on tackling that hill. I have to agree, Sport Beans are not my fave when going for a long run. They take way too long to chew and swallow and when you’re running in the hotter temps, they can get quite messy. Honey Stingers, I think are a way better choice, heck I could eat those things like candy ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Hey Tina. The furniture looks great. Just be careful about some furniture (especially fabric) and bed bugs. I had a friend bring home an infected item, and it was a disaster.

  6. Tina…try clif shot bloks in black cherry….I ran a marathon in September and never used any fuel during training runs, but got a free sample of these the day before the marathon and so used them….YUM! Fairly easy to eat…and tastes like really yummy gummy bears :). All the best with your training…hope marathon day is AMAZING for you!

  7. You should definitely go back and get that dresser! I tried Power Bar Gel Blasts this morning, and while I liked the flavor I definitely wouldn’t be able to run and eat them at the same time.

  8. I’m with you on the opinion of the sports beans…love the taste, not the fact that five of them in my mouth at a time turns into a big ball of goo that I then have to chew and swallow. During my 8.5 miler this morning I had a vanilla power bar gel, it was pretty good!

  9. Only in Boston will you find a sign that says Wicked Good Stuff. ๐Ÿ™‚

You could totally DIY that dresser with a mediocre one, some paint and steel wool. Rub out some frustrations while taking off paint ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. Congrats on the new house, and mastering that hill! As I was scrolling through your furniture finds I noticed that the armchair Mal liked matches my couch perfectly! I never knew there was a matching chair….

  11. I would not be able to eat while running either.

I love that tall dresser thingy! I have no idea what it’s called, but it is lovely! *shame*

  12. I have that dresser in the first picture. The only thing different in the drawer in the top middle, the pull is different. Crazy!

Our house is mostly furnished with antiques and consignment stuff – so much charm and character, I think!

  13. I love antique shopping! It reminds me of my Grandmothers house and I also really enjoy DIY projects although my boyfriend laughs at me every time I want to do one. I really liked the tall set of drawers, very neat!

  14. Tina- you may not want to get involved, but I am so interested to hear your thoughts on the Marie Claire/Maura Kelly article on Mike and Molly and obesity! Between her article and your experience, I am so glad I have never supported MC!

  15. I hate to admit it but antiques really freak me out. All I can think while browsing is “wow, the person who owned this is probably dead.” So I guess antiqueing is a good idea for Halloween weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. I love the furniture. Some thrift stores might have nice stuff to that you can refurbish- if you’re into getting crafty. I think gu’s taste fine. You could also eat dates on the run. Congrats on the house, and the 12 miler!

  17. you gotta try the sowa vintage market on harrison ave in the south end. free parking, next to gaslight. tons of great stuff!

  18. Shopping after a 12 mile run is impressive! I rememeber finishing my first 10 mile run and barely making it home to sit on the couch for the rest of the day ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. I really like the taste of the sports beans — I think they need to be smaller, maybe real Jelly Belly beans size would work?

  20. I”m the same with the sport beans…….I nearly choked to death the first time I tried them. I stick with Honey Stingers and the double caffeine coffee flavored GU so I don’t have to chew ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Great job on dominating the hill!
I can’t do sports beans – I chew gum when I run and chewing sports beans really messes with that!

Oh.My.Goodness. Some of that furniture is amazingly awesome! Its probably a good thing we don’t own a house right now – just rent a small townhouse – our pocketbooks would be in trouble if we started browsing for new furniture!

  22. Just a thought Tina… I used to be a huge “antiquer” and loved searching for neat things. Truly, the best places to find them are NOT in the antique stores. These stores tend to #1, know what they have and want premium dollar for it and #2, get the items you find there from the places you should hit up (flea markets, estate sales- this is my favorite place to get really good stuff for a fraction of the price! & garage sales)

Before you spend the money on furniture check out the “used” ads in your local paper too. Moving sales, estate sales & auctions are also great places to get these items for a lot less money.

    Just a thought!
Congrats on the house! I can’t wait to see how it all comes together for you. It’s a beautiful place!
