I’m here! I arrived in DC, safe and sound, and now I’m relaxing with Katie before the big race tomorrow morning. Our plan is to hit the hay by 9:00 tonight to get a good night’s sleep, so this post is going to be short and sweet. I need my race sleep!
I ended up catching an early train into the city, so I had about 1.5 hours to kill at the airport.
To pass the time, I grabbed a cinnamon-flavored iced coffee from Starbucks, snacked on a banana, and enjoyed some good reading material.
When I arrived in DC, I got a little lost on the Metro system. Usually, I’m a whiz with public transportation, but my brain wasn’t all there today.
Eventually, I made it to the expo to pick up my race number.
I haven’t been to many race expos, but this one seemed pretty small.
Even still, I was happy to see Back on My Feet there!
I alsoĀ bumped into a bunch of blogger buddies!
I never really ate a āĖreal’ lunch this afternoon. I ate a few samples at the expo and later dug into my goodie bag for snacks.
After the expo, I met Katie, who had to work today. At her house, I snacked on an apple and a ton of water. I was so dehydrated after traveling today.
For dinner, we whipped bowtie pasta with marinara sauce, homemade garlic bread, and salad. It was the perfect pre-race meal.
I miss my little pug, but look who is sleeping with me tonight!
I can’t believe that I am running a half marathon tomorrow! I feel so unprepared! Wish me luck!

Must be fun to run a race with a bunch of other bloggers! Have a great time and run fast! š
Good Luck this morning Tina. I am actually in the Boston area visiting my fiance!! I have poured over your blog for ideas of fun things to do and yummy places to eat! My fiance laughs when he sees me on the computer and says “are you on the Boston blog” the answer is nearly always YES! I’ll have to pop in later and tell you where we went!
Good luck today, Tina! I can’t wait to read the post on all your success. You can do it!! Love from Orlando!
Good luck! Hope the conditions are good.
Looking at that airport makes me want to travel and get away somewhere…
Ah good luck! Kick some booty!
Thanks a lot. B/c of you and your fellow crazies, my boot camp class was canceled this morning b/c my instructor could make it through the roadblocks and traffic caused by the marathon. You and others helped to ruin my morning.
Jerks.
@Linda:
you are kidding, right??
Why would she be kidding? If I had my boot camp class canceled b/c of a frickin race I’d be pissed too. Doesn’t help that the events screw up parking for all of us who live here.
@Linda: Wow! Get over it lady!
And why should I? To appease you crazy people?!
Because yo@Kate: Because you are freaking retarded!
Um running 26 miles is “retarded” Kate. I’m not on a mission to destroy my joints.
Good luck on your race!!!
Good luck!!! ENJOY the race š That pug plushie is SO cute. š
It’ll be so much fun! Good luck!
Good luck! Excited to hear how the race was…traveling to chi-town for the chicago marathon and want to start getting out of california more to race….DC would be awesome!
It doesn’t look like you had much to eat for a pre-rece meal?
SO excited for your book!! Good luck on the half today. You’re going to do great š
How’d the race go? I rant it too… my first official half marathon race. Wish I would have gone out a little harder. I realized in the last two miles that I had way more energy than I anticipated at that point. Not sure about my time though… forgot to pay attention to the clock as I crossed the start!
How exciting to travel for a race – I hope it was a blast š
What a day! I hope the race went well, but I bet you rocked it! š
Seeing your bruised and battered banana made me curious if you’ve ever seen a Banana Bunker (silly name, I agree). I got one in Florence, Italy this summer, but I’m pretty sure the company is American. They have a website http://www.bananabunker.com . They look ridiculous and somewhat inappropriate but are perfect for transporting a banana, especially on a travel day when good food is hard to come by.
I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one who has a stuffed version of their dog they sleep with while away from home! I just got a job where I’m on the road most of the week, meaning I haven’t seen much of my dog over the past few months. To help with the separation, my wonderful boyfriend got me a stuffed Welsh Corgi, named Queso, that is placed in every overnight bag I pack, keeping me company while my real Corgi, Macaroni, waits back at home for my return.
Hope you’re enjoying DC! I love living here. You got a chilly weekend for the race, but at least you got some cherry blossoms!
I’m sure you’ll rock it…you’re drive and motivation are inspiring. can’t wait to read your race recap! š
Best of luck at the race today! š
It must be so much fun to run in a race!!! š
