Run * Burpee * Run Workout

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

Good morning, friends! I’m off to the gym in a few minutes, so I’m just popping in with a quick post.

I actually created this workout last week, but I never ended up doing it, so it was a priority for me to give it a try this week. Hey, it looks like a lot of fun! Running + push-ups + air squats + burpees? All my favorites! Plus, I’m trying to get back into running, so 3.5 miles will be a nice run.

When I woke up this morning, I ate a bowl of Greek yogurt mixed with coconut milk, sliced banana, pecans, raisins, and cinnamon. I actually made it last night and then let it sit in the fridge overnight, so it was sort of like an overnight oats concoction (obviously, minus the oats) and got all sweet, gooey, and delicious.

Spring is here, which means I’m taking my workouts from the treadmill to the great outdoors. Here are four tips to help you transition your indoor running to outdoor running!

Tips for Taking Your Run from the Treadmill to Outdoors

Question of the Day

Which do you prefer: indoor running or outdoor running?

P.S. Saw this on Twitter last night and just wanted to share: Dog Welcomes Solider.

  1. I can only run outdoors! I started running a year ago and prior to that had done a very little bit of it on treadmills at the gym. I tried a few weeks ago to run on a treadmill and thought I was going to get sick everywhere!

  2. I love this workout! Sounds awesome! Might do it today after Arm sesh. I can only run outdoors…every time I step on a treadmill I get completely unmotivated and can’t wait for my run to be over with. So I choose outdoor running, where I’m super excited to run and never want it to end!

  3. Ohhh I am outdoor all the way!
Since moving to a new town where I can only run outdoors on the weekends, I have had to do the opposite, and figure out how to transition to the treadmill. It may not be preferable but you can definitely keep it from becoming the, “dreadmill!”

  4. I prefer indoor running. I get lazy if I’m outside, too busy gawking and being slow to do my intervals. The treadmill while watching tv keeps me motivated. And it’s working – 25 lbs down! Anyone have any suggestions for shoes? Since I’m alternating running with speed walking, not sure whether to buy running shoes, walking shoes, or cross training shoes.

  5. That workout is a must try! Due to my IT band inflammation, I just started to run on the treadmill again. However, I love to run outside specially in the summer/fall!!

  6. this is a great workout for my days off training for my half marathon! I can do the mile run around block, do the workout part in my yard, then do the loop again. I will make the runs speed runs for speed work… Thanks!

I always prefer to run outdoors, the treadmill is soo boring to me. I cannot watch TV or read while running on the treadmill.

  7. I prefer exercising outdoors because it’s rare around here and limited to just a few months a year for decent weather. Anytime I can get outside I will pick it – just because you have to take advantage when you can!

  8. Nice, that looks like a pretty fantastic workout. Looks like a Monday or Friday workout for me (based on the schedule that I have dreamed up for myself) and I definitely think I will give it a try!

  9. I definitely prefer outdoor running and absolutely despise running on a treadmill. Unfortunately, this winter has been especially cold and snowy in Iowa (and much of the country), so my running has also taken a huge hit. Oh well…”real” spring will be here soon enough.

  10. Yes, that looks like an awesome workout, love circuits like that which mix up running & strength/plyo’s! I’m a fan of outdoor running for sure, unfortunately with travel & weather lately it’s been indoor. I love letting that combo sit overnight, I need to try that 🙂

  11. I’d rather run outside, but man, my pace is so much slower outdoors. I like the treadmill for intervals though.

  12. I really despise running on the treadmill. I think its the boredom of it. I’m not going anywhere really and unless there is something really riveting on TV, I’m off after 2 miles. When I’m outdoors and running, I feel as though I could go forever, especially on a nice cool day.

I would absolutely love to give this a try! The mix of burpees and squats between may actually keep me entertained if I do it on the treadmill! If not, it’s finally going to be in the 50s this weekend…

  13. Outdoor but only when it is warm. If it drops too much below 50, I am running on the treadmill. But I do have a tolerance for running in the heat and humidity, and actually I LOVE it 🙂 Crazy, I know!

  14. Question – I’m looking to purchase my first pair of Reebok sneakers, mainly based on your rave reviews. Do you prefer the RealFlex or the SubLite? I’m looking for something to wear during bootcamp twice a week with lots of plyometrics, circuits, and running.

  15. Perfect timing for this workout! I’m training for a half-marathon (which I won entry to on CnC!), and this workout seems like it’ll be great for breaking the doldrums of a 4 mile treadmill run. Thanks!

  16. Unless the weather is really gross outside, I would rather hit the trail outdoors than using a treadmill indoors. I can’t do more than 6 miles on a treadmill without going bananas. Plus, I usually end up cooking shows on TV, so I’m starving when I get off the machine. There are two bonuses for treadmills though. First, I can do sprint intervals (like the treadmill workouts you post) easier than telling myself I’m going to sprint to the next tree/fire hydrant/building. Second, I don’t have to wear as many layers of clothes in winter!

  17. Outdoor!!
I am a big time treadmill failure. It’s a fact that I can’t run further than 3 miles on one. Sad but true.
Luckily I live in California where (barring the occasional rain) I can run outside year round. 🙂

  18. That looks like a quick ‘n’ dirty workout.

I really miss treadmill training. I know to some people, treadmill training is their nemesis… but I love it. Unfortunately, my box membership is $$ enough, so I don’t have access to a ‘mill currently – someday!
