Good news: I ran 6.2 miles! :mrgreen:

Bad news: It was a really rough run. ๐Ÿ˜•

The combination of heat, humidity, and lack of hydration really did me in. I even ended up walking a few times. It was just not a good run. ๐Ÿ˜•

I’m actually kind of surprised how thirsty I got during my run. I mean, it was nearly 90 degrees outside, so, of course, I was thirsty, but I’ve run 5 miles in similar weather and been totally fine. I guess I need to get one of those water belts? Or a Camelbak? Any recommendations?

Here are my splits:

  • Mile 1: 8:35
  • Mile 2: 9:01
  • Mile 3: 9:08
  • Mile 4: 9:14
  • Mile 5: 9:34
  • Mile 6: 9:26

Total: 56:45

As you can see, my pace got slower and slower with each mile. My body was so hot and dehydrated, it just would not move any faster. Next time, I definitely need to bring some water. Lesson learned!

Dinner

For dinner tonight, I tried a new recipe from Rachel Ray magazine. It was one of her 5-ingredient recipes for Peanut Chicken, but I made it with shrimp instead.

I have to admit, this dish was a bit bland. I used unsalted peanut butter, not realizing it would make a huge difference in the flavor of the sauce. Salted peanut butter would definitely taste better in this recipe.

Even still, Mal and I really enjoyed this meal. It’s a keeper, but next time I’ll use salted peanut butter.

After dinner, I whipped up a batch of banana soft serve with two Carrot Cake Cookies thrown into the mix. It ended up being quite carrot cake-like with the cookies blended in. Delish! ๐Ÿ˜€

I got so much accomplished today, I am taking the rest of the night off to relax. Wahoo!

  1. Sorry your run didn’t go too well. You should still feel great for running 6 miles, though! When a run or workout is especially tough for me, I keep thinking about how great I’ll feel that I did it when it’s over.

  3. I just carry a water bottle when i run, and for anything under 10 miles it doesn’t get too annoying to carry. Or I’ll plan my longer runs around water fountains. The heat and humidity can kill a run- don’t get discouraged by the times. In the fall you’ll turn into a speed demon as soon as the weather breaks!

  4. If you’ve still got leftovers of the peanut shrimp, just try adding some salt to it. You can make up for using unsalted PB by just adding your own. Start with a little pinch, stir, taste it and keep adding salt until it tastes right. Maybe that’ll help the dish!

  5. I love my Nathan Handheld water bottle. It has a strap so I don’t have to have a death grip on it. Its easy to get to, I don’t have anything flopping on the rest of my body, and its got a handy little pocket with a clip for my keys so I don’t lose them! I’ve tried camelbacks before, My boyfriend and I use them hiking but when we jog it gets annoying.

  6. Good job on your run! Any run in this humidity is a good one…even though it doesn’t always feel like it. I love my Nathan water belt. It has two 10 oz bottles on it and a little pouch for my ID and key. I always take water with me if I’m running longer than an hour. If it’s in the 80s and humid I usually take it if I’m running longer than 30 min. I hate feeling thirsty while I’m running.

  7. Don’t get down on yourself! I live in Alabama where the humidity is at 70% at 6am and the temps reach 95 by 10am. So running is a struggle, but I still do it. At least you are up and doing something which is by far better than sitting on the couch. You did great!

  8. I’ve started drinking coconut water to replenish electrolytes during and after I take a hot yoga class. Massive sweat = massive dehydration, if you’re not careful.

    I love the coconut water with a splash of pineapple- and I usually dilute it a bit with water to make it last longer cuz it’s a bit pricey. It was good to hear your reminder to drink plenty of fluids in this heat and humidity!
    Also, I love my camelbak for hiking- that’s a great idea for a solution for staying hydrated while running!

  9. You Go Girl! I had the same problem on my run the day before! Its funny that I read that a day later! I had a long run scheduled for Sunday and probably didnt hydrate enough before hand. Although I wear a water belt. I like it just because I can throw my house key and id in the belt as well as carry 2 water bottles. Runnersworld.com has actually a great article I highly suggest about running in the heat!

  10. I love the Nathan Speed 4R waist belt — you can bring 1-4 10oz water bottles, snacks, keys, phone — its fabulous. I bought it for marathon training.

  11. I have one of those handheld water bottles with a palmstrap that I like for mid-length runs (4-8 miles). I also have a water belt, but I HATE it, so I only use it for longer runs (10-15 miles) or extreme heat. Both of these are by fuelbelt and pretty cheap on amazon. Plus, they are super common, so refill water bottles are cheap and easy to find. I’ve owned a camebak and I didn’t like it for running, but I hear if you get a female specific one it can make a difference. However, all the girls I know who like their camelbak are not as top heavy as you and I – and I think ‘boob size’ might be a player in how well it fits. Good luck!

  12. I made your banana “soft serve” and carrot cake cookies tonight – love, love, love them!! It’s my new go to evening snack! I’m pregnant and the ginger in the carrot cake cookies are perfect for my all day “morning” sickness. The banana and peanut butter combo, my fave!
