Return of Wheat Berries

There was a return of wheat berries in my breakfast this morning! 😀 I used to eat them all of the time, especially mixed into my oats, but I let them go by the wayside recently.

Yesterday afternoon, I made a big batch of wheat berries, so my supply should last for most of the week. I’m so glad they’re back!

In the mix:

  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • 2 spoonfuls of peanut butter

There’s likely a glass of iced coffee in my future this morning too. I just wasn’t in the mood for it when I was making my oats. But, now I’m feelin’ an iced coffee craving coming on! 😉

Question of the Day

What new food have you tried because of reading food blogs?

  1. I discovered what berries through blogs and now love them 😀 My list of blog-inspired foods is endless…nut butters, pumpkin, oatmeal pancakes, oats in a jar, breakfast cookies, the hummus + BBQ sauce combination 🙂

  2. If anything the food blogs have given me great inspiration to eat more vegetables in my life. I’ve found exciting new ways to eat vegetables and now I eat them more often since they aren’t as boring!

  3. I tried Greek Yogurt just this morning for breakfast after reading your blog. I also added pom arils because of your yummy pictures. It was unbelievable – loved it! And will definitely buy more! Thanks!

  4. acorn and spaghetti squash, portobello mushrooms, beans, sweet potatoes, greek yogurt, basically eveything I eat nowadays I’ve tried because I saw it on a blog!

  5. I tried wheat berries from reading blogs! I didn’t like them in my oats though, I prefer them as a salad base or topper. I think the biggest thing is that before reading blogs, I never put nut butter on top of my oats. Wow. Changed. My. Life. 😛

  6. So many! Flax, GOOD oatmeal, tofu, almond milk, almond butter, greek yogurt, green monsters. It’s made eating and cooking a lot more fun.

  7. After reading this blog I tried Larabars. I’m not big on pre-packaged foods, but they are super yummy and are a great option for a snack!

I may have to try making my own wheat berries at home. I’ve had them a number of times eating out and always enjoyed them. Have you tried them in ways other than adding them to your oats???

  8. congrats on the mag!!!

I had never tried oatbran before and cannot believe I hadn’t!

Also-savory oats (or oatbran) WOW what a great invention!

  9. I don’t think I can leave a comment with just one food I have tried because of food blogs to name a few: tofu, spaghetti squash, barney butter, amazing grass, silk, Misto’s, iced coffee, pomegrants… seriously the list could go on forever!

Ya know, I received some wheat berry’s and still have not figured out what to do with them. Maybe I will throw them in my oats like you do 🙂 Thanks for the tip!

  10. Oh, lots of food!Almond and cashew butter, tahini, pumpkin in all kinds of ways, avocado, strange food combinations.. Blogsphere really stretched my horizons 😀

  11. Since reading various food blogs I’ve tried almond milk, sprouted grain bread, Greek yogurt, Amazing Grass, and millet. What wonderful foods your blog has opened my eyes to!

I actually had a question too, really for anyone that would like to answer. I’m currently a little under the weather and haven’t felt up to working out the past few days. I’m starting to feel really guilty about it even though I’m sick. When you’re sick do you just rest until you feel completely better or do you push yourself to get back in the gym when you’re still feeling kind of crummy?

  12. Most of the things I now eat are inspired by food blogs! XD Probably because I discovered them when I was in the throes of a serious eating disorder, and all the fun ideas really helped and are continuing to help me on my recovery journey! Let’s see… peanut butter (never ate it before blogs!), oatmeal, pumpkin, hugh jass salads, yogurt and cottage cheese, CINNAMON, flax seed, sweet potatoes and squash, roasted vegetables…

  13. I have tried SO MUCH because of food blogs – I have only them to thank for my daily obsession with Greek yogurt, plus almond butter, Larabars, Z-Bars, and so much more!

  14. I was afraid of greek yogurt. I’m not a huge fan of yogurt as it is (only eat it because its good for me), so thick greek yogurt is….yeah. BUT, I tried it after seeing the NuVal score of my old yogurt was so much lower. And guess what? I like it. First, it takes me forever to eat, so I actually enjoy the snack. Second, its so full of protein – wow! Finally, that thick texture is actually yummier that slimy old yogurt.

    Also, wheatberries…raw pumpkin seeds….um..

  15. soo many of the foods i eat now i tried because of blogs… for instance: oatmeal, organic PB and AB, amazing grass, chobani, brussel sprouts (gross!), almond milk, larabars.. that’s why i loove reading blogs so much!

  16. Totally saw your Health mag. appearance while in the Coolidge Corner gym and thought, I bet that’s the Carrots N Cake Tina!
