Last week, I wrote a post about my goals for 2011. Well, one of those goals (redesign Carrots āĖN’ Cake) was achieved the very next day. It turns out that my new web designer is really efficient. I didn’t expect my blog resign to happen so soon! (FYI: My web designer is offering a great deal right now, if you’re interested.)
Now that I’m down a goal, I want to replace it with a new one. Thankfully, my mom reads my blog and contributed her own suggestion:
Ahh, yes, #11.
If you click over to my Life’s To Do List, you’ll see that #11 is āĖTake Mom on a sweet vacation.’ Apparently, an elephant never forgets!! (Just kidding, Mom. You’re not an elephant!) So, my newest goal for 2011 is to take my mom on a sweet vacation.
I already have something in the works for early August, so, Mom, get ready for some serious R&R. You deserve it!
Here are my revised goals for 2011:
- Run a marathon
- Take Mom on a sweet vacation
- Get back to my Feel Great Weight
- Meet with a financial advisor
- Kick my sugar habit
- Run 4 half marathons (one each season)
Breakfast
I knew the butterscotch extract would be trouble. The possibilities are endless with that stuff! I used it in my oatmeal this morning.
Banana-Butterscotch OIAJ
- 1 empty nut butter bar
- 1 banana, sliced
- 1 tsp butterscotch extract
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup soy milk
- 1/2 cup water
- Chia seedsĀ
Question of the Day
How do you ensure that you achieve your goals? Are there strategies that you use?
P.S. Check out how I save time at the grocery store. Mal and I have a divide and conquer method!

Awesome goals! I love the one to run a half marathon in every season š
Butterscotch-Banana oatmeal sounds so good!!!! And that is so cute that you are taking your mom on a vacation!
Great Goals! #11 didn’t SPECIFICALLY say “take YOUR mom” on a sweet vacation, so my Mom is packing her bags! š VERY silly…and kidding of course…I hope you and your Mom have a great time wherever and whenever you go!!
Have a fantastic 2011. Love the new blog layout!!!!
Thanks for sharing the idea of adding butterscotch extract to various things. It sounds delicious! In my head, I’m wondering if it would work to add it t cake batter prior to baking, or maybe to flavor frosting? Mmmm!
I love your blog redesign! It’s sophisticated, with a bit of a vintage feel to it. Nice to look at š
I’m going to do my best to use my planner more often and to make schedules. I’m hoping that that will help me stick to my goals. š
I like to put it all in writing! I don’t know what it is, but once I write it out, I can then put it somewhere where I can easily refer to them when I get “off track”. I like to spend a little bit of time with them and get into detail. Things I list under each goal are things like why I have this as a priority, list the actions that would go against workout towards this goal, and what changes I need to make. It takes some time, but it’s so worth it! š
I need to take a cue from you and write some goals down on paper. I’m a list person so if I get it written down there’s a higher chance it will get done because I’m so driven to check items off a list! Love, love, love that one of your goals is to take your mom on a sweet vacation! I’m doing the same thing this year (likely August or September) with my mom. She has helped out so much with the baby the past year and she totally deserves a relaxing getaway…my dad is “go, go, go” even on vacation so it’s time she get a chance to do nothing but read a book if she wants!
leave it to mom to keep you accountable! writing down goals is a great way to always have references to them
I really need to start incorporating extracts to my food – such a great way to add in flavor!
As for keeping to my goals, I just focus on setting realistic goals that I truly WANT to achieve. They have to be meaningful or they’re never going to happen.
Those are some amazing goals, Tina! My biggest one is “floss more” š Ok, maybe not the biggest one, but darnit I’m gonna do it this year!
How incredibly sweet of you to take your mom on a trip!
I can’t wait to hear more details about the trip with your mom! Sounds like it’ll be fun!
I just have to make myself bite the bullet and commit myself to my goals. One of my goals is to do a 5K race, so I’m just going to sign up now and make sure I do it! š
Love the idea of taking Mom on vacation – they deserve it most! To help get to my goals, I plan to just make a lifestyle change, and try to focus on them every day, even when the going get’s tough!
hahaha, your mom’s lucky! Good thing she keeps up with the blog. š
That is really smart that you set your race frequency goal by the quarter. I have been trying to figure out how to plan for more races without breaking the bank and I think this is a good approach!
I love goals and am working on a bigger approach this year called Operation Athlete. So it is really like one big goal with a bunch of little things that I have to check off each week.
I have already planned out for two of my goals and signed up for a 5K in March!
My strategy–Write down the goals, look at them as often as possible, and do something everyday (even if small) to get closer to them–works like a charm! š
PS: I love the mom vacation addition.
Haha! I love to say “an elephant never forgets” when my husband comments on my great memory.
Those are such great goals. Mine are pretty similar.
My main goal is to just be happy being me. I feel like that may take a little time.
Where did you find the butterscotch extract? It sounds so good!
Baking section of Whole Foods.
No more Blain?
I took my mom on a sweet vacation for her 60th birthday last year and it was the highlight of my year! Mom/Daughter vacations are a blast, you’ll both have so much fun.
How funny, today my sister and I were just talking about taking our mom on a trip to Hawaii for her 50th this year. We’ll see if we can actually get it together.
So where are you going to take your Momma?
great realistic goals
I’m a big fan of intricate check lists when working towards a goal. I think the vacay is such a sweet thing to do for your mom, it sounds like she deserves it!
