I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

And, apparently, it’s jazz hands time too. I have no idea why standing in a teepee inspired me to do jazz hands. Random.

This morning, Monica and I went for a run before our day started with Silk. We ran 4 miles with a couple of walk breaks mixed in (perhaps I was feeling the altitude?) and then we walked a mile back to our hotel.

Since we live on opposite coasts of the country, Monica and I always make it a point to run together when we see each other. Considering how far apart we live, we’ve actually run together quite a bit over the years. Monica even ran the last few miles of my first marathon with me! What a good friend!

After our run, I went back to my hotel room, showered, and got ready for the day. Silk suggested room service for breakfast, so I ordered eggs, bacon, potatoes, and fresh fruit.

I also ordered some decaf coffee with soy milk.

How awesome is room service? I don’t order it often, but when I do, it always makes me feel so fancy.

Question of the Day

What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever run?

On the top of my list is the Charles River in Boston. Other favorites: San Francisco by the bay and Newport, Rhode Island along the oceanfront by all of the gorgeous mansions. I love running when I travel and exploring new places.



  1. I also love exploring new cities by running through them. I love running at the beach — specifically in Key West and Long Beach, California. I also loved my run through downtown Denver, but like you, I had to take several walk breaks (darn altitude). I recently had a beautiful run along Lake Michigan and through downtown Chicago, too, that I really enjoyed.

    And now I want to travel…

  2. You guys have run together a lot — that’s so awesome! I’ve run in the FL Keys {never again — it was brutally hot}, in San Diego with a view of the ocean, and I run along the water every day in Tampa, which is one of my favorites!

  3. Ahh I love room service! I love having breakfast brought to me, so it’s my favorite thing ever. And of course, it has to include some coffee and/or tea! Colorado looks gorgeous. Every time I have a layover in the Denver Airport, I want to get out and run!

  4. Looks like you’re having a fun trip! France, Hawaii and Lake Tahoe were beautiful to run/cycle in. Lake Tahoe’s high altitude and Hawaii’s humidity definitely played a part in how I performed though. It’s pretty amazing how the body functions differently in certain climates.

  5. Ireland’s pretty beautiful, I step outside my door to wonderful views every morning…beautiful but damn hilly for running! Just looking back at some of your links. The marathon…totally epic!!

  6. I think it’s great that you and Monica have gotten to run together so much! I haven’t really gotten to run that many different places, so I guess I would have to go with along with Florida coastline 🙂

  7. I love my standard route by the Rhine river in Bonn! I also get to live only 5 minutes away from there. Last month in Paris I saw so many people running next to the Seine, but my hotel was so far that it did not make sense to ride subway for 40 mins to get there. Oh well, I hope that next time I go there I will not be a poor PhD student

  8. A run that comes to mind is when I used to visit LA for work. We stayed at this AMAZING hotel, Shutters, which was located directly on the beach. I would run on the beach every morning, and it was just gorgeous. The hills in the background of the ocean were just stunning!

    Hmm, most beautiful place I’ve run…I can’t really think of anything excellent so I’ll say where I would like to run! Hawaii, New Zealand, and that place you went on vacation last year and you are going back this year…something Ranch? That place looked amazing.

  10. Anytime I’m in a new city I always try to get at least one run in while I’m there because it’s such a great way to learn about a new city. The first time I ran in Denver I felt like I had been hit by a mack truck and my legs felt like lead. The change in altitude did a real number on me!

    I once ran along Lake Lucerne in Switzerland as the sun was rising. I’ve run on the beach on the Gulf Coast of Florida, through the hills near Santa Fe, on the paths of Retiro Park in Madrid, near the Presidential Palace in Brussels, and on steep, winding roads near Delphi, Greece, but nothing beats that sunrise run in Switzerland! Beautiful bliss. Running is such a great way to experience a new place.

  13. Beautiful and my favorite place to run is always Nantucket. The salt air, dampness, and peacefulness of running around the island with no worries is pure bliss. My skin and body always feel amazing after running around that little island. 🙂

  14. I live only a mile or so by the Charles River and run there at least once a week and it never gets boring – the most beautiful run in the world (I’m convinced!)

  15. I love running on vacation-my favorite memories are of Naples FL -love running to the marina/beach and having bagels and coffee with my husband and walking back to the hotel to get our bikes to ride to the beach. I cannot wait to go again!

    Also, I clicked on your link for the RNR marathon (great job!) and could not stop noticing how differnt you look. YOU ARE JACKED!!! You are an inspiration, I hope to have half the muscle you have some day! : )
