Rain On Your Wedding Day

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

The second I woke up and realized it was raining, I immediately thought of our friends who are getting married on Cape Cod this weekend.

They have a beachy, outdoor wedding planned, so I really hope the weather clears up as soon as possible. I’m pretty sure they’d take nice weather over ”˜good luck’! I wonder where that old wives’ tale came from?

I planned to go to the gym this morning, come home, shower, and make a Sweet Potato Pie Smoothie, but none of those things happened this morning. (Way to go, Tina.) Instead, I lounged around in my PJs, read blogs, and made a big batch of sweet potato oatmeal.

In the mix: ground flaxseed meal, chia seeds, raisins, and peanut butter.

Izzie Bean Giveaway

I’m so glad you guys liked Murphy‘s guest post! He worked really hard on it. I only helped him with the screenshots. (FYI: Jing is a quick and easy way to take them.)

Thank you so much for your input about the collars. Murphy ended up going with the Green Bones, and he’s really excited about it. He already asked me to snap a photo of him wearing it for the blog.

As for the Izzie Bean giveaway, here are your winners:

  • Ashley: I like the turtles and fish one. I just got a new puppy three weeks ago and she has already grown out of her first collar so we are in the market for another one
  • Romina: I discussed it my pug Duncan, and we think the Argyle collar is the one! Green so your dad is happy & the argyle is just preppy cool.
  • Kristen: I like the Brown Duffle Plaid, I think it’s perfect for the fall (and your complexion). The tone of this email reminded me a lot of the Back to School commercials with Manny from Modern Family.

Congrats! Please email me with your full name, mailing address, and choice of collar, and I’ll forward it onto the folks at Izzie Bean.

Question of the Day

Are there any old wivestales that you believe?

P.S. For those of you who are Ebates members, there are some really sweet deals right now! For instance, 10% back at Banana Republic and The Gap, 8% back at J.Crew and DSW, and lots of other ones!

  1. In China it is actually considered good luck to have rain on your wedding day, if that helps…
Can’t wait to see Murphy in his new collar! Snazzy!
I bought a new dog bed for our pup yesterday. It’s ergonomic, so it supports her little arthritic hips. She sniffed it, lay down, and has pretty much refused to move since, lol!

  2. Sweet potato oatmeal? I’d like some of that!

I totally don’t believe in wive’s tales. My mom believed in a ton and always tried to get us to believe in them too and my logical side always won out. Like tying a sock or tie around a post when you’ve lost something means you’ll find it very quickly. Um, what? Makes no sense.

  3. It poured the evening of our wedding. Luckily, I was a stickler during planning and made sure that we had sides to the tent (the hubby thought they might be an unnecessary expense). We did have to have the sparkler send-off IN the tent. Which would have been fine, except some of our guests then laid the hot sparklers on the tablecloths. I am now the proud owner of 4 sage green satin table cloths with burn holes in the middle… When I have a daughter, they’ll make great curtains! 🙂

  4. First of all, I’m at the Cape right now and it’s BEAUTIFUL so I hope they are getting married tonight 🙂 Second…I think that good luck thing was made up to make people feel better because rain sucks haha. I got married on the Cape too and it rained 10 minutes after the ceremony (which was outside) and we got a DOUBLE rainbow… so you just never know 🙂

  5. ahh I had to laugh when i first saw the title of this post.. My Mum is getting married today and it has been pouring with rain for the past couple of days. Thankfully here in Sydney Australia we have a blue sky this morning, it is a glorious day! 🙂 I think for my Mother’s stress levels, rain would not be the best of luck considering it’s a completely outdoor wedding, not sure about the long term though!

  6. Old Wives Tales?? As a mommy of three girls, I think I might have tried them all 😉

The one that I KNOW works is Vicks Vapo Rub on the soles of your feet to stop coughing. I PROMISE it works! Just remember to put socks on after 🙂

  7. PS….Today is Michael and my 6 year wedding anniversary…so perhaps I can make up my own Wive’s Tale….if you get married on Sept 9th, you’ll have a great marriage 🙂

  8. i don’t actually believe in any old wives’ tales that i can think of off the top of my head, but anytime i go outside with wet hair (esp when its cold out!) i think of “you’re going to catch a cold from that!”

  9. I kinda follow that it’s bad luck to open an umbrella indoors, walk under a ladder and have a black cat cross your path..but not “step on a crack, break your moms back, step on a line, break your dads spine”. Although whenever I thought about that one I would try to watch where I was stepping!

  10. Also, in April if the groundhog sees his shadow there are 6 more weeks of winter. I live in Canada so it might only be there but they have a specific groundhog for it and everything!

And when I see pennies on the ground “find a penny pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck, give that penny to a friend them your luck will never end!” 🙂

  11. The superstition goes back to ancient fertility rites. If it rains during your wedding it’s supposed to bring good luck and lots of children. There is your strange and random fact for the day.

  12. It rained on my wedding day (Sept. 18, 2004), but I am child-free by choice, so rather thankful the “fertility superstition” does not apply to everyone! 😉
