Hi, guys! Just a quick blog post because I need to get to sleep soon since I have an early start tomorrow morning. (My alarm is set for 5:31 AM.) Oooooh, man, I hope I’m ready for this race!
Breakfast
Before leaving for the airport, I ate breakfast at home, which was a Sweet Breakfast Scramble with a big scoop of peanut butter. Best breakfast ever.
On the drive to the airport, Mal and I stopped by Marylou’s for a couple of iced coffees. I went with a decaf Hawaiian Chocolate Nut with milk. Holy yum X 10! I didn’t want to waste a single sip of it, so I ended up chugging it before going through security at the airport.
Lunch
My flight landed in DC around lunchtime, so Katie picked me up from the airport and then we headed to brunch at Pacifico Cantina.
As soon as I walked into the restaurant, the special of the day caught my eye.
I wouldn’t typically think to pair shrimp and mushrooms together in an omelet, but it was a surprisingly delicious flavor combination.
After lunch, Katie and I walked over to the race expo at the Armory.
It was later in the afternoon by the time we got there, so the crowds weren’t bad and we picked up our bibs and shirts (long sleeve – woo!) in no time at all.
Then, we wandered around for a little while and did some shopping.
But I only bought a vanilla bean GU for tomorrow.
After our time at the expo, Katie and I walked back to her condo and relaxed for awhile before heading out again to rent a DVD and buy groceries to make dinner. (We rented The Lucky One, which was pretty terrible, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching Zac Efron in it. He’s just a tad attractive.)
Dinner
Katie and I cooked a fabulous dinner tonight: baked chicken with sautĆĀ©ed Brussels sprouts and roasted potatoes with fresh Rosemary.
My plate:
And I went back for a second serving of potatoesāāyay, carb-loading!
Now I’m heading straight to bed. Ten miles in the morning! AHHHH! Wish me luck!

Agree with you about The Lucky One. Not a very good movie but I have seen it 3 times…I wonder why, has nothing to do with Zac š Good luck in the race!!

Oh, I agree…Zac Efron. Oh my. I would watch the worst movie in the world (over and over) if I got to see him in it! hehe š
Love the pain/wine t-shirt, Tina! It seems like a fair tradeoff to me. š Vanilla Bean GU’s are my favorite; I love their mild flavor–almost flavorless–which is perfect to slam during a run. Have a great race today!
Have a great race today – you got it! š
Try Founding Farmers for brunch/breakfast in DC! They do breakfast and brunch during the week too – the crowds can be big on the weekend without a reservation. Have fun racing!
Good luck with the race tomorrow Tina! I know you’ll do awesome!

Good Luck on the 10-miler!! Looking forward to flying out from the West Coast in the near future to experience it. I hear it’s a fun race – can’t wait to see pictures!!
WOO HOO! You will do awesome! I did a 10-mile race and somehow ran a faster pace than any other race (5K, 10K, half). There’s something about a 10-miler that made it go by so easily š
Woo hoo!!! Can’t wait to hear how your race went! Looove the looks of that dinner!
Good luck!!!! I’m sure you will do great. You’ve done marathons before, 10 miles is like a walk in the park š
Good luck with your race!
Love everything about this post–I love the excitement of pre-race prep and festivities. And that “pain now…wine later” shirt is great. So me! And your dinner looks balanced and delicious!

Love the t-shirt!
Hope the run was tons of fun! I am sure you rocked it!
Tina can you share the recipe for these? & share the pans/kitchenware you use?
The Lucky One might be one of the worst movies I have ever seen, I was so bummed!
Ditto! It was so bad (besides looking at Zac Efron)!
Hope all went well!! š
10 miles= great distance.
Enjoy the run!
I hope your race went well! I was up at 3am this morning for my marathon so I feel the pain of early rising!
Hope the run went well!My next running goal is to do a 10 miler. Can’t wait to hear about it! Know any good 10 milers in Mass?
The Black Cat 10-miler is in March. I did it a couple of years ago, and it was a lot of fun.
So because you have a food blog do your friends often feel nervous cooking for you? If not, it sure looks like they pulled together a darn good meal!
Nah, they don’t care at all! š
G’luck @ your race! Also, this is really weird but my parents have the exact same plates as your friend katie o.O
I love Pacifico! Good luck with the race!
LOOVE the FB pics.
Best of luck! And I have to try that breakfast tomorrow!! It looks so yummy:)
Hope you had a great race! I made your breakfast scramble this morning because I had some leftover pumpkin. It was really good! Sort of like a protein pancake but easier!
Yay! So glad you liked it! š
I hope you had a great time in DC!! I’m a little behind on blog reading, so I can’t wait to hear how everything went!
Do those energy packets of goo actually work? I’ve never tried one but I assume they have to be pretty packed with enough energy to get you through a race. Hope you had a great time and felt good throughout the 10 miles! (p.s. Zac Efron=adorable)
Yes! They do! Fast, easy energy! š
I’m in love with Katie’s stove!
