Quote of the Week

I’m loving my box’s Quote of the Week:

Great, right? It’s a little (big?) something to think about on this fine Thursday.

Breakfast

I woke up craving peanut butter this morning, so I made a French Toast Breakfast Scramble and loaded it up with a huge scoop of Teddie and then went back for a second scoop a little while later. Yay, peanut butter!

I also drank a glass of iced Dandy Blend with organic half & half.

I guess I went a little heavy on the half & half because when Mal saw my glass, he asked if was an “extra extra” aka coffee with extra cream and extra sugar. (Is that a South Shore thing?)

Workout

After breakfast, I went to CrossFit. I was planning to take a yoga class today, but a surprise WOD motivated me to go. Our only hint was “it’s not Fran,” so I figured it’d probably be a good one and, obviously, I was super curious!

WOD

?

(hint: it’s not Fran)

The WOD was “Jerry,” which was a 1 mile run + 2,000 meter row + 1 mile run. Fun times indeed! Actually, the row and second mile were absolutely brutal (my quads were on fire!), but it doesn’t have to be fun to be fun, right?

My friend (and best/favorite competitor) Kerrie was in class today (we actually planned to go to the 9:00 AM class together last night), so I tried to keep up with her during the WOD. We were neck-in-neck on the first mile (we both finished around 6:30!), but for some reason, during the row, I thought we only had to do 1,000 meters, so I stopped and took my feet out of the straps, thinking I was finished. I was about to get up and run the final mile, but then someone reminded me it was 2,000 meters. Crap. Brain frat. I was only half done! Kerrie finished the row and took off on the last mile. I tried to catch up to her, but she finished the WOD more than a minute before me. Even still, I know trying to “compete” with her made me a much faster runner today. I finished in 24:21. P.S. Kerrie is frickin’ FAST!

Lunch

After CrossFit, I ran some errands around town and then came home to make lunch. I ate reheated leftovers from the previous night’s dinner. They were good, but nothing too special about them.

I spent the next few hours working and then headed out to get a manicure at Allure Spa.

My brother-in-law gave me a gift card to Allure Spa for Christmas last year, and I’m still working on spending it. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

I ended up splurging and going with a Shellac manicure today. I’ve had them in the past, but they never last more than 5 or 6 days for me. I told the manicurist I’m pretty rough with my hands, but she insisted it would last for at least 2 weeks. We shall see.

Snack

When I got home, I was starving, so I snacked on some Sweet Potato Wedges with a crapload of Teddie Peanut Butter. Apparently, I’m in a peanut butter mood today.

And now I’m off to meet some Fitfluential folks for dinner. We’re going to Reebok headquarters for a blogger event tomorrow! Woohoo!

  1. Oh, I SO needed that quote right now! I’ve had a day from hell and needed something to help remind me how much I have to be thankful for.

I don’t ever (like, EVER) get manicures but had a shellac one this summer and loved it. It stayed for 3 weeks. It can be hard on your nails, I think, and maybe takes the top layer of nail off when they remove the shellac so I guess that is the drawback. (Although, truth be told, I peeled the shellac off myself so maybe that is why I lost the top layer of nail?!)

  2. My mum always got extra-extra and we lived in Framingham! (I could use a Dunkin Donuts coffee right now!)

I get Shellac all the time and it always lasts 2+ weeks for me and I am so rough on my hands, especially now that I’m working part time.

WTG on the WOD! I really hope to be able to try out CrossFit one of these days!

  3. You reminded me I must roast up some sweet potato at the beginning of the week to snack on! Saves those moments when you end up eating a not so great snack just because you’re hungry and in a hurry!

I love the quote, especially the health part – it’s something I try never to take for granted.

Good luck with the nails – my manis never last either. Oh to be groomed at all times!

  4. Your “extra extra” is called “light and sweet”…at least here in NJ it is 😉 So fun to hear regional differences…I had no idea it has different names!

  5. I always do the shellac mani’s, but 2 weeks is a bit of a push…I’m pretty rough on mine too and it lasts a good week, anything after that looks blah! I’m def craving oatmeal with PB now, I guess I know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow!

  6. My husband is from the Taunton area of Mass (I’m not sure if this considered south shore or not) but he always orders “extra extra”… 🙂 I had never heard it ordered that way until I met him…

  7. Haha, I never comment but today the “Extra Extra” made me laugh. I’m from Raynham and french vanilla, extra extra, was the cool thing to get in high school. Now I think it would make me immediately sick!
