On Thanksgiving morning, Quinn ran his first road race! Well, technically, he participated while Mal and I ran it.
So, on race morning, we were a mess. For some reason, I thought the race started at 8:30 AM, so at 7:45 AM, I was dillydallying around the house without a care in the world. Well, the race actually started at 8:00 AM, not 8:30 AM, so when Mal pointed this out, we scrambled to get ourselves together.
As we drove to the start of the race, we saw the road blocked off and runners coming towards us, so we knew we definitely missed the gun start, but we still wanted to run. (We planned to run the 2-miler.) So we parked the car, grabbed the jogging stroller out of the back, popped Quinn’s car seat inside and ran to the start line as fast as we could.
By the time we got there, the race volunteers were already packing up the start. Haha! They were literally rolling up the start banner and taking away the orange cones from the side of the road. We felt bad about being so late, but one of the volunteers encouraged us to catch up with the rest of the runners, so we quickly looked at the clock (almost 8:00 – I still can’t believe we were so late) and off we went!
We started with me pushing the stroller, but I guess I was too slow because Mal took over and hauled ass for the rest of the race. Seriously, he and Quinn were running faster than I could run without the stroller! Haha!
The 2-mile course had a turnaround at the halfway point, and I remember my legs were burning trying to keep up with Mal. I knew I only had a mile to go, so I just kept trucking along. (I also think Mal slowed down a little bit for me! Haha!)
We crossed the finish line at 24:23, which if you subtract 8 minutes is just over 16 minutes! Woohoo! I told ya we were hauling ass! Clearly, Quinn was pumped about our finish too””he was totally passed out by the end. Running is exhausting.
After the race, we went back to KFIT for a little post-run celebration.
Quinn was totally into the pull-up rig. I wonder if we have a future CrossFitter on our hands?
