Hi, friends! Happy Tuesday!

How was your President’s Day? Mine was really great””here’s a recap!

Lunch

Yesterday’s lunch was an arugula salad with all sorts of raw veggies, roasted Brussels sprouts, oven roasted French fries, truffle oil, and a big scoop of hummus in the middle. I kept my salad on the smaller side because I also really wanted a smoothie for lunch. I had a serious craving for one.

I made two smoothies””one for Mal and one for me””and they were a huge hit. Fruity, sweet, creamy”¦ we could not stop talking about how delicious they tasted, so I immediately jotted down the recipe. Usually, when I make smoothies, I just throw a bunch of ingredients in the blender, but this one was a keeper!

Very Berry Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 6 oz container of blueberry-flavored Greek yogurt
  • 1.5 cups soy (or almond) milk
  • 2 scoops Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • 1 cup of ice cubes

Directions: Add ingredients to a blender and mix until smooth.

Serves 2

With smoothies in hand, it was time to head out to meet our friends for an afternoon get-together. Murphy, however, really didn’t want to see us go. He was so sad.

Poor pug. We’re taking him to the park today to make up for it.

In honor of President’s Day, Mal and I met our friends Josh and Courtney at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum to visit and explore. It’s the nation’s official memorial to President Kennedy.

The JFK Library and Museum are located on the waterfront in South Boston. With it located so close by, so you’d think I would have visited a bunch of times by now. Nope. Yesterday was my very first visit.

Visiting the JFK Library and Museum was one of those touristy Boston things I always wanted to do, but never got around to it, so I was happy to finally see what it was all about yesterday afternoon. The museum was really interesting and had so much to offer. Here’s Mal checking out a piece of the Berlin Wall on display.

If you’re local and want to check out the JKL Library and Museum, it’s offering all sorts of fun activities this week in honor of President’s Day!

Dinner

After our time at the museum, the four of us drove to the South End for dinner. Yelp told us we’d like Picco, so we headed there. Yelp is so smart.

I started with a Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale, which was quite delicious””more hoppy than I usually like, but the floral taste and aromas made it enjoyable to drink.

To eat, the four of us split the Alsatian pizza, which was topped with sautéed onions, shallots, garlic, crème fraiche, bacon, and gruyere. My goodness, it was amazing. The toppings were fresh and flavorful and the crust”¦ wow. It was like nothing I have ever experienced. It was so light and fluffy. The texture was almost fried dough-like.

I ate two pieces.

During dinner, Courtney shared a sip of her Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro with me. It was so delicious, I needed my own. It was like a sweet Guinness. Mmm!

None of us were planning to order dessert until we saw practically everyone around us ordering delicious-looking ice cream desserts. Mal was dying for some ice cream, so I told him I’d have a couple of bites of his Dark Chocolate Brownie Sundae because I had just ordered a sweet stout as my “dessert.” Well, the brownie sundae came out, and it was made with big chunks of brownie, Scharffen Berger hot fudge, Malt Chip ice cream, and topped with whipped cream. Ummm, yea. I ate about half of it.

Picco was awesome””great atmosphere, good beer selection, tasty pizza, decadent desserts. We’ll definitely be back!

I don’t think I would be able to resist the sundae, either. In fact, I would have to order another to “split.”
