Good morning and happy Friday! This week flew by, didn’t it?

Guys, I love my new schedule! 😀 Before work this morning, I had time to exercise, bake, do laundry, blog, and have a conference call. It’s so nice to not feel rushed all of the time!


I hit the gym bright and early for a strength training + cardio workout.


  • Dumbbell Squats: 50 lbs, 20 reps, 3 sets
  • Alternating Dumbbell Lunges: 40 lbs, 30 reps, 3 sets
  • Plié Squats: 40 lbs, 20 reps, 3 sets
  • Leg Press (machine): 110 lbs, 20 reps, 3 sets
  • Stationary Dumbbell Lunges: 50 lbs, 15 reps, 3 sets

It takes me about 30 minutes to do 3 sets of 5 exercises for my strength training workouts. It’s just the right amount of time for me– long enough to get a good workout, but I don’t have to spend the whole day at the gym.


  • 30-minute interval mix from MotionTraxx: “Drop a Jeans Size Workout ”˜09 – Interval #3.” I love these interval workouts! Usually, I just space-out on the elliptical while reading a magazine, but these really push me to take it to the next level. I’m usually a sweaty mess by the end! And they’re a good substitute until I can run again!

Pomegranate Coconut Quick Bread


Makes 1 loaf


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1/2 cup POM juice
  • 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1/2 pomegranate arils



1. Preheat oven to 350*F. Grease loaf pan.

2. Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl; blend well.

3. Pour batter into loaf pan.

4. Bake for 45 minutes until top is firm and an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

5. Allow loaf to cool before serving

DSC_0013This bread is soft and sweet with a little kick of pomegranate. It would be perfect as a dessert or even served along side a fruit salad for a healthy breakfast. I ate mine with a smear of Olivio this morning. Holy yum!

Happy Birthday, Internet

Leonard-Kleinrock-and-IMP1Did you know that yesterday was the 40th anniversary of the internet? At 10:30 pm, on October 29, 1969, the internet was “born.”

My nerdy husband is a huge fan of NPR, so he listened to a special internet anniversary segment and told me all about it last night. If you want to read more, here’s some info from Wikipedia about the history of the internet.

Do you remember your first encountered with the internet? What year was it?



  1. My first encounter with the Internet was in 1993, the dawn of the world wide web. I was a freshman in college and the computers in the computer lab had this application I had never heard of before, Mosaic – the first text-only browser! A few short months later, Netscape showed up and pictures and style were born into the world wide web. The internet has certainly come a long way!

  2. Wow, you can almost smell the yumminess of that bread from the photos… I want to try and make that!

    I remember when we first got the internet- I was like ten and thought it was this crazy, weird thing… and then came AOL and I was glued to my computer, like every other kid in America. Seems like forever ago!

  3. Gordon’s is the BEST! I’ve hosted a couple wine tasting events at their store in Waltham for my professional association. They have this killer wine tasting room and all kinds of classes – beer, wine, food pairings, etc. – for anyone who is interested in the Boston area. My favorite part is that for this seemingly modest liquor store, they have an amazing selection of wines that no one else has locally. (No I don’t work there, I’m just a fan!)

    As for the Internet…hmmm…i started using my step-father’s dial-up AOL e-mail account to e-mail a friend who was in college in 1994… so maybe around that same time?

    I think I will attempt to make it this weekend. Do you think I can substitute the canola oil with unsweetened applesauce? I am going to try it.

  5. Interest internet fact. My father went to school for computer engineering in the late 70s (when computers were an entire wall) but eventually didn’t pursue it and became a carpenter and now knows nothing about the internet now! It’s wild how quickly technology changes.

    I don’t know how people could function without the internet though. It’s amazing to have information for EVERYTHING right at your finger tips.



  6. My first encounter with the internet was in 1993 when I was in 3rd grade. We had just gotten it and my dad helped me find research for a small report I was doing on Catherine the Great. I thought it was so cool. Like I was just impressed I didn’t have to go to the library to find information.

  7. Love your workouts!! Have you seen Jillian Michael’s Hot Bod in a Box? It’s 9 interval workouts already set up and also over 50 strength training exercises. They all have pictures and instructions on how to perform each move. It’s great to pick a workout or make one up and just pull the cards and hit the gym. It’s definitely worth looking at!!

  8. Mmmmm..that bread looks incredibly yummy, sprinkled on some greek yogurt? Wow that would be incredible! My first encounter was when I was ten years old circa 1997 and we had our first laptop in the house. We got AOL and I was on the “Kids Only” membership..I even remember my first s/n: KathrynC10. My sister was super creative. Crazy to think where the internet is now. Happy birthday world wide web! 🙂

  9. I remember having AOL in high school. My computer at the time would only support the AOL features (like chat rooms, which I loved) but not the actual web.

  10. That bread looks super yummy. I’m going to try and make it today or tomorrow. I don’t remember the year of my first internet encounter, but it was with Prodigy. (Anyone else remember that?!) It was pre-AOL days.
