Out of Control

Ugh. I just polished-off a half dozen Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Cookies. 😕 I baked two dozen for Easter brunch tomorrow at my grandparents’ house, and somehow I ended up eating a whole bunch of them. Now, my stomach hurts. I feel like a 5-year-old who ate too much cake and ice cream at her birthday party and ends up with a belly ache. What do I do this to myself?

So, my appetite has been so out of control today. Maybe it was the beautiful weather or just having a number of my favorite foods around, but I could not control myself today. I just kept eating and eating! I definitely overdid it in the calorie department, but tomorrow is a new day, right? Back on track tomorrow!

Despite feeling a little down about overindulging today, I had a wonderful day. I spent some quality time with Mal and Murphy as well as our friend, Dave, and his dogs. Dave was also dog sitting for friend, so we had quite the dog party this afternoon.

We took the pups to the park so that they could run around and burn off some energy.

At the park, we stumbled upon a castle-like structure.

Neat, right? I wonder what Google has to say about it? I’m so curious!

Of course, the guys needed to explore it immediately. I don’t think they discovered anything exciting though.

After about 45 minutes of non-stop playing, the dogs were exhausted.

But, before we left the park, there was an intense stick fight.

Pug versus Bichon.

Both dogs ended up with part of the stick, so it was a draw in the end.

The humans were also pretty tired from running around in the warm weather, so we broke out some cold brews as soon as we got home from the park.

The guys and I sat on Dave’s porch while drinking beers, chatting, and enjoying the sunshine. I ended up drinking 2.5 beers over the course of the afternoon.

For dinner, we ordered Buffalo Chicken Nachos from The Fours.

As always, I dominated them. I have zero control around Buffalo Chicken Nachos. 😕

I still feel (uncomfortably) full, but hopefully, a good night’s sleep, some water, and a new day will make me feel better about overdoing it. I just gotta keep on truckin’!

G’night!

  1. I struggled with this for an embarrasingly long time, but you are so remarkable in your strength in everything that one bad day is okay :). 100 bad days is okay as long as they are balanced out, i’m inspired by everything you do and ther eis NO WAY I could have only eat 2 of those cookies, i’ve printed out the recipe so I can make them for some friends I know competing in a fitness show next weekend, i’m sur ethey will be gone fast!

  2. I totally relate to your situation. I, too, went crazy in the calorie department last night. It’s very frustrating to have to constantly battle with your food will, but knowing that I can start fresh immediately afterward always helps me get out of those slumps. I really appreciate your honesty about it all! It’s also reassuring to know that I’m not alone in these struggles. I have the utmost of faith in you that you’ll bounce back with a healthy vengeance!

  3. are we on the same menstrual cycle? This past week has been CRAZY bad for me. Easter candies and PIES ended up being a daily occurrence and the holiday is just TODAY. 🙁 When will we learn? My mistake is I always think I can just have ONE bite…alas…I end up having ONE or TWO pieces. Have a great easter and cheer up. Your bod is still hawt and your running times are still to die for!

  4. Tina ~ You have a great attitude about overdoing it. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. That is part of normal eating – overdoing it every once in awhile because the food tastes good. Maybe you just need to shift your mindset a bit. Perhaps you overindulge because you have a mindset about not overindulging or putting a limit on foods – it triggers you to ‘eat it while its here’. I hope that makes sense – I am not being very articulate.
Thank you for your honesty and healthy outlook about eating. You are an inspiration to me and I admire you a lot!

  5. You’re SO lucky to have that gorgeous park where you can let the dogs off leash to run. Me=jealous

I had a very over-indulgent Friday. 🙁 It was hard, really hard to not beat myself up (typical MO for me), but I did my best not to, and had a healthy Saturday. Tina, you eat so healthy, and work out a lot. Your days of over-indulging here and there don’t seem to affect your overall health and great body (let’s be honest!) , so I hope you won’t be so hard on yourself.

  6. PS. Oh, and I really appreciate your honest feelings and your opening up about stuff like over-indulging. You’re just a “normal” girl like the rest (or most) of us! Some blogs, I have to laugh when I read that they’ve “over-indulged” and it’s like an extra carrot or something. lol I think we can all honestly relate to struggles with things like cookies, nachos and beers. Or at least I can. 😉

    Thanks again for your blog!

  7. What a beautiful day! If you substitute jelly beans for you cookies, I know just how you feel. I have little control as it is, but sometimes it’s completely non existent. It’s a new day, though. Here’s hoping today is a better eating day for the both of us. Happy Easter!

  8. I think a lot of people go through this. I know I do. I had a bunch of chips and salsa and margaritas on Friday and was not very pleased with myself yesterday. But today is a new day.

  9. I can soooo relate to what you are going trough. We are visiting family today, and when I woke up there was chocolate eggs everywhere…let’s just say I’ve also been indulging. :-S But tomorrow IS another day, and I’m sure I’ll feel as bad you felt today. It’s a big issue for myself also.

  10. I have issues with control sometimes, too! Especially with cookies! 🙁

Buffalo chicken nachos are SO GOOD. I cannot pass those up. My friends and I order them every time we go to the Fours!

  11. Party food is my kryptonite. But if you eat healthy 90% of the time, I think it’s fine. We only get to live once!

  12. I’m in the SAME boat as you! Even yesterday–which is weird because you were going through the same thing! My probably was the normal Easter dinner over eating..plus WAY too much dessert. I really need to work on my portions/overeating..will you share some of your strategies? 🙂
But YES, today IS a new day, and a brand new start! 🙂

  13. When my appetite was out of control it was because I am insulin resistant. Now, you do not appear to be morbidly obese and weigh 300 pounds like I did, but if you really can’t get full, some bloodwork is worth looking into. If it’s a lack of self control, well, who would have self control around beer and nachos? I certainly don’t. 🙂

  14. The dogs are soooo cute! Where do you live? I thought Blue Moon ale was an Oregon beer. I haven’t seen it much anywhere else (and it’s one of my faves!).

  15. Oh this week has been full of over eating due to the Passover celebrations and my sisters birthday but once the week is over its back to healthy eating and “normal” portions but to help me not feel so icky I drink lots of water and green tea! Iced tea especially due to this outrageous weather!

    best wishes

  16. i love that you address overindulging…it’s so hard not to do sometimes, but i am so glad to hear you’re carrying on. i mean, life doesn’t stop because we ate one too many cookies, right? that’s something that i need to remember too, so thank you for being honest and thank you for being encouraging!

  17. Cookies are definitely one of my achilles heel.

So here is how I’ve learned to handle — of course, YMMV.

You can form the cookies and then freeze them, unbaked. Take out however many you need and bake frozen — no need to thaw! Just add about 5 minutes to the baking time.

This works for me because I won’t go into the freezer and eat the frozen, unbaked cookies (there was a day I would have, but not anymore). It’s allowed me to have cookies in the house again — and enjoy a nice, warm, fresh-from-the-oven cookie when I truly want one.
