Our babymoon in Savannah was absolutely wonderful. Truthfully, it was probably one of the laziest and most laid-back vacations Mal and I have ever taken together, but it was exactly what we wanted.
Since I wasn’t in blogging/work mode, I didn’t document every little thing we did, but I still wanted to share my experience with you guys, so this post highlights some of my favorite experiences from our trip. I hope you enjoy reading about them!
Mal and I stayed at the The Marshall House, which was highly recommended by my friend Ashley, who grew up in Savannah and even had her wedding there. Overall, I really liked The Marshall House and would recommend it.
Pros:
- Location: The Marshall House is located right in the heart of Savannah’s historic district, so it’s close to shops, restaurants, and sights. Mal and I walked everywhere; no need to rent a car.
- Southern charm and hospitality: The hotel was gorgeous and the staff was super friendly.
- Price: The Marshall House was really affordable and included a daily continental breakfast as well as a Happy Hour with wine and cheese.
Our room was adorable!
Cons:
- Continental breakfast: Overall, it was a decent breakfast. There was a nice mix of healthy options (fresh fruit, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, quiche), but they didn’t change from day-to-day, so by the third day, Mal and I were kind of sick of eating the same thingsββbut, hey, it was free!
- It’s haunted: I didn’t know this when I made our reservation, but The Marshall House is one of the most haunted places in the country! I’m afraid of ghosts, so I definitely felt a bit unsettled staying at this hotel. Nothing spooky or creepy happened to us (THANK GOD), but I was on edge as soon as it got dark.
Here are my favorite eats from our tripβΒ¦
I loved everything about Vinnie Van Go Go’s, especially the atmosphere and, of course, the food.Β A couple of tips: Vinnie’s is cash only and the 14βΒ medium pizza was more than enough for Mal and me.
Their sandwiches are massive! You could easily split one with a friend and still be satisfied. Mal and I ordered the Godfather to share, and it was incredible.
I only bought a Health Bar Cookie from here, but their food looked really good. The menu also included lots of delicious-sounding options (especially breakfast), including some fun flavored coffees, such as Red Velvet Cheesecake. Mmm!
This place is a must!!!! Holy yum!
Mal and I discovered The Coffee Fox on our first morning in Savannah and went there every day after. The coffee was excellent and the staff was really friendly. They loved how Mal said βroomβΒ in his northern accent. Haha! I guess it sounded more like βrumβΒ than βroom.βΒ
Mal and I totally stumbled upon B. Matthew’s Eatery. The menu just sounded so delicious (it also had a lot of gluten-free options), so we had to see what it was all about. Rumor has it, they have a phenomenal brunch on the weekends, too!
There were like 4 or 5 different things that I wanted to order, but I eventually went with the Vegetable Lasagna and loved it.
Similarly, Mal was so impressed with his meal (coulotte steak), he even snapped a pic of it!
On the walk home after dinnerβΒ¦
Of course, we had to see what the Savannah pralines were all about, so Mal and I stopped by River Street Sweets for one to share after dinner one night, and it was AMAZING! I wish we had purchased twoββneither of us wanted to share after our first bites!
Mal and I walked all over Savannah one dayββwe’re talking more than 6 hours of exploring!
Some highlights:
Birthplace of Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low
Forsyth Park
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
It’s also gorgeous insideββbe sure to poke your head in!
Rocks on the Roof at the Bohemian Hotel
Mal and I loved this place and actually went there two different times to enjoy the scenery and beautiful weather.
The bartenders also made me some delicious mocktails (virgin mojito and Moscow mule)!
City Market
What a fun area to explore! We also stumbled upon some live music there one night after dinner.
Of course, Mal and I did a CrossFit drop-in at a local box while we were in Savannah. CrossFit Steadfast was only about a mile from our hotel, so we walked there one morning for a workout.
CrossFit Steadfast was a great boxββnice space, good coaching, really nice people. Mal and I actually met one of the owners when we first arrived. His wife (co-owner) is actually 26 weeks pregnant (one week ahead of me), so we had lots to talk about!
For the CrossFit peeps, here’s the WOD we did:
Front Squat
1*8 @ 65%
1*6 @ 70%
1*4 @ 75%
1*4 @ 80%
1*4 @ 80%WOD: for time
3 Rounds
15 Hang Power Cleans (135#/95#)
15 BurpeesCash Out:
Snatch Balance 5*2
I worked my way up to 100 pounds for the Front Squats. For the WOD, I used 75-pounds for the Hang Cleans, did Squat Thrusts for the Burpees, and finished in 5:39. It was a great workout!
And, on our last day in Savannah, Mal and I pretty much wore the exact same outfit. He (jokingly) refused to hold hands or take a photo with me, so I snapped this one just for fun. Look at his (fake) annoyed face. Haha!
All in all, we had a fabulous time in Savannah. It’s definitely a great place for a babymoon, especially if you want a low-key vacation with lots of good food!

Glad that you guys had such a great time. Savannah is so beautiful! I need to get back there since it’s so close to Atlanta.
oh how fun! I need to convince Travis to take me on a babymoon!
YES!!!
Ah! I had totally forgotten we ate a b. Matthew’s and Goose Feathers while we were there. I would have definitely recommended both, so I’m glad you stumbled up them π
Looks like you guys had a great time. I’m really interested in that beer and coffee concoction. : ) Happy Friday!
Leopold’s for the win – its seriously delicious! Glad you enjoyed your trip!
Ok, I literally laughed out loud at the pic of Mal by the fountain! And that cookie… drooling. Glad you had a nice and relaxing time π
Looks like you two cuties had a blast! Such a gorgeous babymoon. Loved all of the pictures π
You look so cute in that blue top! I can really see the preggo belly. Love it. Where is that top from? I want one… although once you are 35 weeks pregnant nothing looks good (at least thats how I feel).
Looks like you guys had a ton of fun.
Kelsey
Thanks! It’s from Old Navy. I actually just blogged about it the other day: http://carrotsncake.com/2014/02/what-im-loving-lately-iv.html
Love the idea of a babymoon–too cute. You look great!!
Sounds like you had a blast!! Those sandwiches look epic and love the look of the breakfast room in the hotel!
Sounds like you had a fun time!
I have also unknowlingly stayed in a haunted B&B and I was not too happy when I found out. I don’t really believe in ghosts, but at the same time I don’t want to not believe in case they are real and happen to haunt me.
Love Forsyth Park! And birthplace of the Girl Scouts!
My friends and I came home with a bit of a southern drawl for a couple of days after we visited Savannah. Did the same thing happen to you?
I’ve heard great things about Savannah! My boyfriends brother just moved there so hopefully I will be visiting soon and will have to remember to reference this post for tips π
Looks like you had a great time, that is the most important thing! We had our babymoon last year, we went to Mexico, and it also was one of the most relaxed vacations we have ever had.
LOOOOOVE Zunzis!!! I went to college down there! Love the area!!!
Im so glad your trip was great! Ive been wanting to visit savannah for ages just to walk around and see the sites.
Great trip and thanks for the recap! I have wanted to visit Savannah.
Sounds and looks like a beautiful place to visit! I really want to go…I love the south! I think I’ll stay in that hotel just because it’s haunted π I’m a big fan of anything that’s legit paranormal. I stayed in the Stanley Hotel (where Stephen King had the idea for The Shining) and it was awesome. And last summer I did some ghost hunting in Ireland, which was fun even though we didn’t find anything…but my sister and I did get laughed at by some guys delivering room service in the hotel we stayed in one night. Oh well π
I’m from NYC and my husband is from Boston and he says room (rum) funny too… i always make fun of him. I can’t bear to hear him say scallops. Also ‘pupcorn’ for popcorn. The first time I met my MIL i had to say what about 5x with her heavy Boston accent. I also had to ask someone what wicked meant…… NYC and Boston; so close in the north but so far away!!!!
Walking around for hours & exploring a new place is such an incredible experience. I should do it more in my own home town. Looks like you enjoyed your babymoon!
What a fantastic getaway! And I’m impressed with the 6+ hours of exploring you did on foot (in flip flops!). Hope you guys created a bunch of awesome memories π
Savannah looks beautiful and I hope to go there one day! Glad you all had a WONDERFUL time!
I loved the Girl Scout house! I was a Girl Scout growing up and it meant so much to me when we went! I am so glad you had an awesome trip! My husband and I have been talking about spring break vacations and we might just go to Savannah again after seeing your recap!
Awww I’m glad you had such a great time, Savannah is a fun town to walk through. One of my best friends lived there and I loved coming down from Charleston. The food you had looks amazing! However I would NOT be up for a haunted hotel. I totally believe in ghosts and it would just scare me to death! No pun intended…
Oh looks like so much fun!! So glad you were able to get away for a little bit and relax π
It looks like you had a wonderful time! I think B Mathews is one of the places I ate when I was there too! That Godfather sandwich looks BOMB!
Looks like such a fun trip, I want to visit there now!
I’m heading to Savannah in October for a wedding, definitely keeping this post in mind for when I go!
Glad you and Mal had a great time! Thanks for the heads up about that hotel, I’m like you, do not like haunted places! My husband would love to stay there though, lol! Did you walk around at night? Felt safe while walking around? I’ve heard some crime is in some areas, people being robbed (mainly tourists). We plan to go in September and want to definitely stay in a safe area! Thanks for your review, you gave me some great ideas on where to go!
Wow! Sounds like you guys had a great time! I really want to visit now.
Savannah looks amazing! can’t wait to check it out myself next month!
Looks like you had a great time, lots of great experiences, food, and weather!
What an amazing trip & glad you got to enjoy! I have never been there but it looks like an amazing place to visit!
Looks like a great trip! As a new mom, I am jealous of the baby boon : )
Now, when we travel, we have so much STUFF to bring with us for our little man!!! He requires more luggage than me …lol.
I lived in the south for 10 years and never made the trek to Savannah! It looks amazing. And Mals pictures make me laugh. He must have a great sense of humor!
That looks like such a wonderful trip!!!
That looks like an awesome time and SO beautiful!! Glad to hear you enjoyed yourselves. I still can’t believe how long it took you to get home from Logan.
Omg all of your eats look incredible! I took note of the restaurants you recommended for next time I go. Looks like such a lovely getaway!
That looks like the perfect trip! It’s just what I’d want to do, eat and sightsee!
How was the weather there?
Beautiful! Warm and sunny! Γ°ΕΈΛβ
Sounds so fun!! I loved our baby moon too–lazy & good food is the way to go on that type of vacay π
You are glowing, ps!
So glad you guys had such a great time on your babymoon. Drooling over all the food photos especially the pizza you had.
Can’t believe that place you stayed is haunted that would have freaked me out too for sure!
Great recap! It looks like you had a wonderful time! Savannah is definitely on my “to visit” list–it looks like such a fun/cute town!
I never knew Savannah had so much fun stuff to offer! Looks like a great travel spot π
Thanks for the recap! My fiance and I are thinking of going to Savannah for a couple nights after our wedding this summer (and saving for a “big” honeymoon ’til it’s miserably cold in the winter again). A lot of people have told us it’s charming, romantic & a great place to relax. I love reading about it, it makes me want to go more & more! Glad you had a great time before your little one arrives. π
Love Savannah! I’m glad you had a great time . . . .
Fun to see your drop in at Crossfit Steadfast! I stopped there in December and thought it was one of the best boxes I’ve dropped in at.
Omg! I live in Savannah so I was interested in reading your recap. Then I came upon the box you dropped into; I go there too!!! How was I not there that day? Major fail on my part π seems I me like you hit all the great places in Savannah.
How big was that bed in the hotel? It looked like a twin in the picture! Did you guys sleep in side-by-side twin beds for your babymoon π haha
Haha! It does look small in that pic, but it was a queen! Γ°ΕΈΛβ
