Hooray for Friday!!! šŸ˜Ž

Unfortunately, my dog didn’t share the same enthusiasm for the end of the work week. Usually, Murphy bounds out of bed, ready to eat, but he just wasn’t in the mood today. He was actually a little bit cranky.Ā Like usual,Ā Lazy Pants McGee ate his breakfast in 60 seconds flat, but then put on his tired face for the rest of the morning. (He’s snoozing on my lap right now.) I’m telling ya, it’s a tough life for this dog!

I made yummyĀ pumpkin pancakes for breakfast this morning. I used A Really Good Pancake Recipe and added a big scoop of canned pumpkin to the mix.

Mal and I enjoyed breakfast at the kitchen table while listening to yesterday’s Toucher & Richer podcast. Cracking up together was a fun way to start the day! šŸ˜†

Pancakes, get in my belly!!!

As you can see, they didn’t taste terrible! šŸ˜‰

Workout

After breakfast, I headed to the gym for a 75-minuteĀ Ashtanga yoga class.Ā This type of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures, which produces “intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs.” This results in improved circulation, a strong body, and a calm mind.

Ashtanga yoga literally means “eight-limbed yoga,” which refers to the eight limbs of yoga laid out in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.Ā Each limb relates to an aspect of achieving a healthy and fulfilling life, and each builds upon the one before it. You can read a description of the eight limbs here. It’s quite interesting.

I’ve only attended this Ashtanga yoga class twice now, but I already like it. I’m a huge fan of yoga done in a hot room, so I’m totally on board with that aspect of it. Today’s class focused a lot on balance and strength and less on stretching and flexibility, but the class I did last week was just the opposite. Overall, I think it’s a good form of yoga for me.

Snack

Breakfast was de-lic-ious, but I wasn’t surprised that it didn’t hold me over until lunch. Mid-morning, I topped a leftover pumpkin pancake with Barney Butter.

And poured myself a second iced coffee with vanilla soy milk. It’s Friday after all! šŸ˜‰

Question of the Day

What colors are you wearing today? What is your favorite and least favorite color to wear?

P.S. In honor of Cookie Friday, check out Maria’s delicious Peanut Butter, Banana, and Honey Cookies. I’m seriously considering baking them today! šŸ˜‰

  1. today I’m wearing a grey suit and white blouse. First time EVER that I wear a suit (for an event at school), and a hate it. So weird.

I usually like wearing jeans(blue) or black pants with a dark top. However, I am really trying to add color to my wardrobe and recently bought two green shirts!

  2. Yum.. your iced coffees always look so delicious! I am not a coffee drinker at all but I need to start trying some ice coffees—are they really strong? How do you make yours? Sounds like you had a great time at Yoga…I seriously have been slacking in that department and would like to start practicing regularly again! Just have to find the time!

  3. We’ve had a summer resurgence around here, so I pulled out one of my favorite summer dresses – white with red and blue stripes and sailboats around the bottom.

I try to have a well balanced wardrobe colour wise, but it always sort of ends up in the white/red/black/blue/pink/grey area.

  4. I’m dressed weird today… Light gray (more summery) pants with a brown sweater and thin red printed scarf. I’m all Fall-like except my pants and it’s very weird!

I am not a good example.

  5. We shared the same breakfast thoughts! Friday is a day of celebration, and pancakes must be invovled šŸ™‚

Baxter was a little more peppy than Murphy, but I’m sure he’s at home sleeping away on my bed. Happy Friday!

  6. I was just thinking about whipping up some pumpkin pancakes this weekend! Thanks for the recipe šŸ™‚ I tendto wear neutral colors like browns, blacks, and grays and spice ’em up with some colorful accessories! If I don’t have a colorful accessory, i’ll play up my eye makeup with some bright-colored eye shadows.

  7. I am wearing black. I always wear darker colors in the fall/winter, and I love it! Charcoal, black, dark purple, navy blue, and chocolate brown are all favorites in my wardrobe :).

I’m going to try and go to the TNT event this week, and bring a friend along as well.

  8. That About.com page isn’t totally accurate. The 8 limbs of yoga, based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, are actually all stages in the goal to reach Samadhi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samadhi), which is kind of equivalent to enlightenment. In yoga teacher training, we read The Yoga Sutras, and were taught that in order to progress, you must effectively master each of the different limbs in order to truly reach samadhi. That is why you’ll hear of yogis (or sadhus – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadhu) who devote their entire lives to the practice – it takes a long time! šŸ™‚

Thanks for sharing this info though. There’s so much emphasis on the physical aspect of yoga in the West, so it’s nice to hear more people talking about the [huge] other parts!

  9. You’re right–thank goodness it’s Friday! Your pumpkin pancakes look so tasty–I made pumpkin-cranberry-walnut bread this week that I just can’t stay out of šŸ™‚

I’m wearing Gold & Blue today–at the university where I work the staff wear the school colors on Fridays (it also means we get to wear jeans on Fridays!)

    Hope you’re having a good Friday šŸ™‚

  10. I love that Murphy has such a strong personality! My dog definitely does, too, and we’re constantly imagining what he’s thinking, feeling, “saying,” etc. I’ve been really into pink lately for some reason! I’m definitely not usually a fan of the color, but I’ve found some lovely pink sweaters and tops that I’m really into right now. Happy Friday!

  11. I am wearing a navy top with a camel sweater.

I wear a lot of neutrals–everything goes and it stretches my wardrobe so much! I do buy a lot of brightly colored tanks/shells to wear under my neutral for a fun pop sometimes. But sticking with the basics keeps my look (IMHO) sophisticated and timeless. Well I hope so anyway!

Grey/Black/Navy/OATMEAL/Ivory/Camel/Other Blues is my basic wardrobe. Of course oatmeal is a good look–in a bowl or as a sweater!

  12. I am wearing blue today. Light blue shirt, darker blue jeans. Even blue earrings. It’s the smurf look. Normally, I like wearing pink on Friday so I can wear my lucky pink Converse shoes. They ensure a good Friday. But blue is working for me today!

  13. Oooh, I’m excited for the fundraiser!

I’m wearing jeans and a dark purple shirt. I lean towards dark colors, but I get compliments when I wear lighter ones.

  14. Besides for the foood…. Your pug is my favorite part of your blogs. I literally laugh out loud at his pictures are your commentary at least once a day as a result of Murphy! Have a nice weekend!

  15. I love Murphy, so much! You should definitely bake some goodies today, JUST saying šŸ˜‰

I’m wearing red today – so strange for me!

  16. I’m wearing a blue and white pin-striped skirt (apparently my coworker thinks I’m wearing my train conductor dress!) My favorite color to wear black (boring but it always looks good)

  17. 1. Let me back up. I have commented a few times, but never introduced myself. I found your blog linked off a friends, and have been reading for maybe the past 6 months. Love it!!!

    2. Those pumpkin pancakes look DELICIOUS. I think I’ll make them tomorrow in honor of the weekend.

    3. I’m wearing grey and navy today. I am dying for it to feel like fall, but it still in the high 90’s in Raleigh -eek!

  18. Today I’m wearing a green tank from Banana Republic. IT’S ABOUT 95 DEGREES OUTSIDE!! ICK! I’m in Philly, I bet you guys are having the same weather we are. Summer needs to vanish. Time for crunchy leaves already. Have a good day!
