We have one tired dog on our hands today!

Yesterday, Murphy had a blast playing with our friends’ dog all afternoon and then Batman in the evening, so he tired himself out and has no energy today.

But, in typical Murphy fashion, he doesn’t want to miss a thing around the house, so he’s been fighting to stay awake all day long. Check out his sleep progression on the couch this afternoon.

I almost finished off the jar of peanut butter in the kitchen yesterday, so I knew it was ready for Oats In a Jar this morning. In the mix: rolled oats, hemp milk, ground flaxseed meal, and sunflower seeds.

After breakfast, Mal and I headed to open gym at CrossFit. I warmed-up with a 2,000 meter row and then did a workout (that I missed last week) with Mal and another member.

WOD: “7 of Hearts”

7 rounds for time of:

7 Burpees

7 Handstand Push-ups

7 Barbell Roll-outs

7 Hang Power Cleans

Rx: (95, 65)

L2: (75, 55), substitute band assisted or ab-mat HSPUs

L1: (65, 45), substitute box HSPU OR shoulder presses

Since open gym is totally laid-back and meant for members to work on skills that need improvement, I didn’t really do this WOD for time because I’m just starting to get the hang of Handstand Push-ups without using bands for assistance. I used this workout to try to improve upon this skill.

I kept a pretty good pace on the other exercises during the WOD, but, not surprisingly, the Handstand Push-ups slowed me down. I did all 49 of them, but I did quite a few of them one or two at time, so they ate up a lot of the clock. I used Level 2 weight (55#) and finished in 23:02. Mal finished in 14:31 just to give you an idea how long it took me! But, the most important part is that I did real, live Handstand Push-ups (without bands) and that’s all that matters to me. Hey, progress is progress, right?


Mal and I desperately needed to go grocery shopping, so we hit up our freezer for lunch today. On the menu: TJ’s pot stickers, edamame, and oven roasted fries with ketchup.

After lunch, we headed out to run some errands and go grocery shopping for the week. On our travels, we stopped by Pinkberry for some berry smoothies. Mine was really creamy and not too sweet””just the way I like ”˜em! Yum!

  • Sunday: CrossFit
  • Monday: Off
  • Tuesday: CrossFit
  • Wednesday: 6 x 400 with 90 sec rest
  • Thursday:  3 x 5k @ 10k pace
  • Friday: CrossFit
  • Saturday: RTB training run

  1. Oh those Murphy photos are hilarious! My pug does the same thing and I often can’t stop myself from saying, “Oh just put your head down and sleep normally,” as though she might actually listen.

  2. Can I ask what you guys typically spend a week on groceries for the two of you? Groceries are so expensive anymore and hubby is always complaining about how much the two of us spend. Our’s generally runs between $100 (for just the necessities) and $200 for a full grocery list. Seems like a lot for two people.

  3. I love all the Murph pix !! haha My American Bulldogs make these exact same expressions, just on a much bigger scale, haha. Love when they fall asleep sitting like that (:
