Murphy is rockin’ the one-legged sit lately.
Look at this dog! He’s so weird.
Ok, the pug is annoyed.
I guess I snapped too many pictures of the One-Legged Wonder.
Breakfast
This morning’s breakfast was a toasted blueberry Bagel Thin with sunflower butter spread on top. I haven’t seen the blueberry flavor in stores yet, so I was psyched that the Thomas folks sent me some to sample. They’re delicious and a nice change from the whole wheat flavor. Plus, I typically enjoyĀ sweet foods for breakfast.
With breakfast, I also drank a smoothie made with iced coffee, frozen banana, vanilla protein powder, and soy milk.
Workout
After breakfast, I got dressed to exercise. I had planned to do a speed workout, but I just wasn’t feeling it, so I headed to the gym instead. There, I did a combo elliptical + treadmill workout:
- 10 minutes: elliptical
- 10 minutes: power walk on treadmill
- 5 minutes: easy run on treadmill
- 10 minutes: running intervals on treadmill (1 min. sprint; 1 min. jog)
- 10 minutes: elliptical
Total: 45 minutes
I haven’t done a workout with two different cardio machines in a long time, but it’s a great way to mix things up. It’s also aĀ lot easier to do in the summertime when the gym isn’t as crowded.
Snack
After the gym, I was hungry for lunch, but it was only 11:00, so I made myself another iced coffee mixed with protein powder and soy milk. I <3 iced coffee.
Lunch
A little while later, it was time for lunch. The One-Legged Wonder kept me company in the kitchen while I chopped veggies.
He was rewarded for his efforts.
I made myself a big salad with tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, celery, crumbled feta (from my friend Bridget), and Goddess Dressing drizzled on top. It was a great salad.
Now, Mal, Murphy, and I are off to the dog park. The pug has a lot of pent-up energy and needs to run it off. I think Mal does too. The two of them have been running around the house yelling (Mal) and barking (Murphy & Mal) all morning long! It’s never a dull day in our house.

Murphy is so healthy! My dog stays away from all veggies, but that doesn’t stop her from begging haha.
And I’m dying to try blueberry bagel thins!
Bahhaaaa i love the one legged shots, my dog does the same thing!
Glad murphy is so healthy, my doodle loves red peppers almost more then peanut butter š
Aw, Murphy! I always love when you post pics of him – too cute!
Just saw on Twitter that Mal suggested an afternoon beer – enjoy!
So funny-I got a similar picture of my dog this morning! I don’t understand how they sit like that, especially my dog…you’d think she would just topple over
Seeing pictures of Murphy makes me miss my sister’s bulldog — they both have that sweet “I’m sad” face.
Murphy is cute. I was never a fan of pugs (I know, blasphemy!) but I enjoy seeing pictures of your little guy.
Haha my dog used to sit like that all the time.. he was a shih-tzu and his leg would just sorta gradually slide out from under him. š
Ha! Good to know my husband isn’t the only crazy one. He gets on the floor, hops around and the dog chases and barks at him like crazy. It’s their nightly routine.
I can’t wait to try those blueberry bagel thins! My dog will not touch carrots or any other veggies for that matter.
I like that you clarified which male was barking and which one was yelling. Hehe.
My cat sits like this — I think it is due to her larger-than-normal belly.
Murph never fails to make me smile š Enjoy your outdoor time!!
Oh my gosh, my Charlie sits like that all the time! We call him a thug and tell him he’s a lazy boy for having such bad posture.
sitting off to the side like that can also be a sign of hip dysplasia! (but doesn’t mean he has it for sure)
Those pictures are adorable!
I did a similar work out at the gym yesterday, I haven’t had any desire to try running outside this week, it’s way too hot! I love mixing it up and switching off between the treadmill and elliptical.
Murphy is so funny. I love that you give him veggies. My dog, Mocha, is a big fan of sweet potatoes, frozen green beans and dried cranberries.
I have a boston terrier and that is the only way he sits! He’s been doing it since he was a puppy. So funny
My black Pug, Missy, sits like that all the time and she begs terribly for carrots. Enjoy the “DP” (code name for dog park in our house).
Hi Tina,
Just a quick question. When you make your iced coffee, protein powder and soymilk drinks, do u blend it all together or just mix it in together?
Thanks!
@Sarah: I just shake it up!
I adore the fact that Mal and Murphy are running around the house barking/yelling at each other. Fabulous.
Goddess dressing is my favorite!
And Murphy is too cute – I love seeing how dogs’ expressions can change š
I will definitely have to try that iced coffee protein smoothie you made! I LOVE iced coffee too, so I’m sure I’ll love it. š
I want a pug so bad. I love this dog
Haha! The One-Legged Wonder is too funny! I love Murphy! š
your dog is such a ham, I love it. I hope you do another blog dogs post soon, they’re always so cute.
I’ve never tried Thomas Bagel Thins because I’m pretty sure we can’t get them in Canada, but I’m DYING to go grocery shopping in the US.. I swear, the cashiers would probably think I’d never been grocery shopping in my life LOL! And I hear ya on those mixed-up cardio workouts – they’re definitely easier to do in a quiet gym. I have a bunch on the workouts page of my blog and they do help to beat cardio ADD! Have fun at the dog park!
I am so jazzed to see your workout today! I brought all my stuff to work so I could go to the gym right after, but I’m all over the place today and knew I’d get bored with a straight run or elliptical workout. This is exactly what I needed!
Wahoo! Now I just want to race through the end of the day…
My pup has a similar way she sits; she pops her hip to one side like that but has the other foot all the way up in the air, then stares at you likes is the most comfortable thing ever.
He’s not weird, he’s casual!
@BethT: LOL!
Murphy is so cute!!
Our corgie would lay flat our her belly with both of her back legs sticking out. We called it “double chicken legs”.
Enjoy the dog park.
That last picture of Murphy is priceless! lol. Your salads always look so tasty. I definitely have to start incorporating more of them into my diet.
What a little cutie pie! Murphy always makes me smile. He’s quite the trendsetter too, because I think I’m going to start rocking the one leg trend š
At least my husband is not the only one that yells and makes noises at our animals… except instead of barking he meows at our cats! so wierd……
Cute Murphy pics, like the one-legged sit! š
Very interesting workout, I’ve never tried swapping cardio machines, looks like a fun challenge.
hehe. His leg looks sort of painful like that?!
Barking, eh, Mal? Hah.
I like doing 2 different machines, b/c boredom goes bye-bye!
My doggie sits like that too, so cute!! Someone on my FB just posted this: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/fuo/2493150967.html (Pug Table). Thought you’d get a kick out of this. LOL
@Jenny Emery: Oh my gosh! I wish I lived in Philly!
Just an FYI, my vet said it’s bad on dogs hips to sit like that…..maybe it’s only an issue with larger dogs, but just an FYI! I always thought it was cute when Lola sat like that, but now I have to correct her, which she REALLY loves š
Murphy is sooooo stinking cute. Our yellow lab sat like that for about a week and then we noticed a limp in her back leg, took her to the vet and she ended up needing surgery. I am not saying Murphy is like our dog but something to just be aware of if it continues and you notice a limp. Love your blog…you inspire me everyday! Thank you so much for having a positive impact on my life. š
That one-legged dog sit is way, way too cute!
I have a pug and she sits the exact same way. My husband calls it her “side-sit pug pose”. Too funny that he got annoyed at you for taking pictures. My pug never sits still long enough for me to get good pictures.
Aw, Murphy! He looks too cute in those pictures.
Haha I bet mutiny could teach me a thing or 2 abt yoga!
HAHA! “Barking (Murphy & Mal)” <– that literally made me laugh out loud!
I could cuddle with that adorable dog of yours all day long!!!!!!!!
hahaha I got a good laugh at the one carrot murphy got rewarded with! So funny. His leg looks like a big turkey leg stuck out like that!
We call that sitting position “casual pug” at our house!
@Kara: LOL!
I love the Murphy pics! My fam used to have a pug, Isabelle. We used to call her our little garbage disposal because she would sit under the table while we ate just waiting to scarf up anything that happened to drop!
Murphy learned a thing or 2 from his mama. It is called stretching. Now where is my foam roller?
Oscar sits like that too. He sits on the bed and lets the leg dangle over the side. Adam and I call it “sexy paw”. We are weird…
@Ali: Haha!
I love that you call it one-legged sit. We call it “fake leg sit” in our house because it looks like that leg is useless. š Too funny!
