Christmas tree decorating was a success! It was a cold night forย getting a tree, but that didn’t stop us. Mal and I picked a real beauty! ๐Ÿ˜€

Decorating our Christmas tree was such a great time! We had Rockin’ Holiday music and a warm, toasty fire. We didn’t have wine, but we had eggnog and holiday M&M’s. Sounds like a good night to me!

I actually think this year’s tree decorating was my favorite so far. Last year was fun because Murphy was a tiny puppy and I made some pretty kickass Vegan Sugar Cookies, but neither of us were happy with our living situation. I think I remember enjoying decorating our tree in 2008, but sadly those photos are long gone.

Last night definitely put us in the holiday spirit!ย

The pug, however, sat on the couch and pouted. (I think he was upset about โ€œhisโ€ย sticks were going into the fireplace once again.)

What a little Scrooge!

Did you happen to notice that our Christmas tree only has white lights on it? We usually decorate with colored lights, but Mal insisted on white this year. I let him have his way (pick your battles, right?), but I definitely prefer colored lights on the Christmas tree.

  1. I’m a white lights girl, but my roommate did all the decorating, so we have a colored lights tree. Glad I could help even out the wants/haves of the world with you ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I like white lights but I do have fond memories of colored lights, since that’s what I had growing up. I also like the orange candles in the window. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I am 100% white lights type of girl! It’s too funny that you mentioned this because I just wrote a post about it! This is my first married Christmas and my husband loves the multi colored lights. We had a bit of a battle about it and ended up putting BOTH on our tree, haha. I think white lights are so elegant and classic. They let the ornaments shine. He already said next year I can get all white. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Your tree looks great!

  4. When I was a child, we used colored lights but I as I got older we switched to white lights. As an I adult I prefer white lights on the tree and colored lights on the outside of the house.

  5. It depends on the overall color scheme. If the colors of the ornaments are limited (to white/silver, red, etc.), then white’s better. I have a little of everything in terms of ornaments and prefer colored lights on my tree. Yours looks great!

  6. i’m a white light girl as well. my parents used to always insist on white lights as a kid, while i professed that life just wouldn’t be the same if i didn’t get colored bulbs on my christmas tree! haha now, my parents are remarried and have converted their NEW spouses to white lights as well. they do cast such a nice, warm glow in a room. beautiful tree!

  7. Colored all the way! But, a couple of years ago I bought a pre-lit tree and it has white. Oh well, it’s still really pretty. I just put colored lights up around my mantle.

  8. Poor Murphy!

I’m a colored lights girl, but I always use the bigger size that we always had when I was little. They look so old-school, and I think few people use them now!

  9. I like the white lights only look. It gives the tree a classic look and I’m able to add color through all my crazy decorations ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m hoping to finish decorating my tree this weekend. I can’t wait!

  10. I voted for you friend – she’s tied for first!
I love white lights. But, my girls love colored lights so that is what we have!!

  11. Colored lights for sure!! I have always had colored lights since I was little so I can’t imagine it any other way. But I can appreciate white lights or different style trees, just not at my house ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. White lights all around! On the tree and on the house. I’d like to say that they look a little more classy but I don’t think I can use that argument when we have a blow-up santa claus in a fishing boat in our front yard! Pick your battles, right ๐Ÿ˜‰

  13. Great question! My preference has to do solely with LCD or incandescent.

I used to prefer white only with the incandescent lights (and I still do). Now that we’ve switched to LCD though, the white isn’t as warm or sparkling so I prefer the cheer of colored lights.

My husband has always been a colored lights fan so this makes him (gloat) happy.

  14. My mom would battle with my sister and I about Xmas tree lights every year: she wanted white, we wanted colored. We would agree to alternate years, but somehow the lights were almost always white!

In my adulty years, I think I prefer white lights…but I always wonder what the tree would look like with colored lights!

P.s. Is Mal wearing a VT Lake Monsters sweatshirt? That’s hilarious! I lived in a house right next to Centennial Field from ages 1 to 5!

  15. I believe in only multi-colored lights. While I like my house nicely decorated other times of the year, Christmas doesn’t seem like Christmas unless there are tacky decorations ๐Ÿ™‚ But I only like white lights outside, makes it appear that the inside might be classy as well!

  16. I think white lights tend to look more elegant and classy, but we always used colored lights while I was growing up so that’s what I use too-I think they look more “homey” in a good way!!!!

  17. Oh wow…my mom has that same snowman candy dish, and every Christmas, guess what goes in it…holiday peanut M&M’s! So when I saw your post this morning, I had a total deja-vu. Made my day, and now I can’t wait to visit home in a few weeks!

  18. White lights all the way! I don’t think I even own any colored lights…I kept white lights up year round in my dorm during college for a nice break from the horrid fluorescent overhead lights.

  19. I’m a total white lights kind of girl. I just think they twinkle the best. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Growing up, my parents always had two trees: one elegant one with white lights, and one with colored lights that my mom threw all the homemade/eclectic ornaments on.

  20. I like white lights. My family switched to colored a few years ago. I tolerate it, and it looks nice, but I think white looks prettier. ๐Ÿ™‚
