Nutrition Response Testing

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Later this afternoon, I have an appointment for Nutrition Response Testing (NRT). My sister works for a chiropractor who does this kind of thing, so I’m going to see what it’s all about.

So, what the heck is Nutrition Response Testing? To be completely honest, I don’t really get it, but I’m keeping an open mind about it since I know a number of people who have had success with it, including my sister.

Apparently, there are two parts to NRT: the analysis and the personalized health improvement program (using Designed Clinical Nutrition). Simply put, you are first analyzed and then a nutritional program is designed to help you handle what is found in the analysis.

Here’s more info about NRT from my New Patient Orientation packet:

The Analysis

The analysis is done through testing the body’s neurological reflexes and acupuncture points. The neurological reflexes are derived from the part of the nervous system whose job is to regulate the functions of each and every organ. The acupuncture points are selected from the ancient Chinese system of acupuncture, which is thousands of years old.

NRT is a study of how the different points on the surface of the body relate to the state of health and to the flow of energy in each and every organ and function of the body.

Since human anatomy has not changed significantly in thousands of years, the utilization of these reflexes and specific points has become extremely useful in our practice because they are so accurate.

Each NRT reflex represents a specific organ, tissue, or function, and indicates the effect that energy, or the lack of energy, is having on the body. By testing these reflexes, we have a system of monitoring your body at each visit that helps us identify what your needs and how well we are meeting those needs.

How do we access the Nutrition Response Testing reflexes in order to get this information?

If we were to hook you up to an electro-cardiograph machine and take a reading, that would make perfect sense to you, right? What is actually happening during that procedure? Electrical energy from the heart is running over the wires. This electrical energy makes the electrocardiograph record the energy pattern in the form of a graph or chart. We could then study this graph and tell you what it all means. In Nutrition Response Testing, instead of connecting electrodes to the specific points being tested, the practitioner contacts these points with his/her own hand. With the other hand, he/she will test the muscle of your extended arm. If the reflex being contacted is active, the nervous system will respond by reducing energy to the extended arm and the arm will weaken and drop. This drop signifies underlying stress or dysfunction, which may be affecting your health.

What Exactly is Designed Clinical Nutrition?

Designed Clinical Nutrition is exactly that: designed (especially prepared based on a specific plan) clinical (pertaining to the results received in clinical use or actual practice on huge numbers of clients over many years) nutrition (real food, designed by nature to enable the body to repair itself and grow healthfully). It is whole food in a tablet, capsule or powder, concentrated in a vacuum, cold-process system that preserves all of the active enzymes and vital components that make it work as nature intended. These real food supplements have been designed to match the needs of the body, as determined by the positive response shown when tested against the active Nutrition Response Testingâ„¢ reflexes that were found on your individual analysis. These are nutrients you are simply not getting, or not assimilating, in your current diet. These deficiencies may be a result of your past personal eating habits and routines, and to a large extent, to the lack of quality in the foods commercially available in grocery stores and restaurants today.

  1. Through an analysis of your body’s reflexes, we help you to determine the exact nutrients you need to supplement your diet in order to bring about balanced and improved health.
  2. We make these highly concentrated therapeutic formulations available to you in tablets, capsules, or in powdered form to “supplement” your current diet. That’s why they are called “food supplements.”
  3. Depending on your individual situation, we may also require that you make some specific changes in your diet and eating habits and in your routines in order to bring about the best possible results.

Sounds a little out there, right? It might be, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to see what it’s all about, especially with my recent colitis flare. I don’t want that sh*t ever coming back again! Even though I know colitis is an autoimmune disease, I can’t help but think what I am putting into my body can affect it. Plus, NRT sounds like it will probably help improve my health on many levels, so that’s a good thing. My sister also hooked me up with a deal on the price, so I see it as a smart investment in my health. I’ll definitely let you guys know what happens!

Have you ever tried any sort of “alternative” health care? How did things turn out for you?

Today’s lunch was a bunch of leftovers from the refrigerator: salad with spicy peanut dressing from yesterday’s lunch at the Yard House.

Half of a Turkey Club Sandwich.

And some Butternut Squash Soup.

I also ate a handful of pretzel M&Ms after lunch.

My NRT appointment is at 4:00 and about an hour away, so I grabbed a banana to take with me on the road. I know I’ll never make it until dinner without eating something.

I’m off to run some errands and then to my appointment. I’m nervous and excited! Wish me luck!

  1. I once saw a naturopath after I had chronic tonsilitis and found her to be really helpful. She gave me some herbal supplements that really boosted my system and got me back to good health. I’m also struggling with food intolerances and have had some hydrogen breath testing done to see if i have malabsorption of different types of food. I’m actually fructose and lactose intolerant so have had to make changes to my diet accordingly. It did help immensely though!

  2. Hi,
I had a Nutritional Response Testing (NRT) appointment today. I have to say that I was very skeptical about the process despite that I am a huge believer in alternative, holistic medicine. The testing was a bit strange, but I have to admit that I was fascinated by the information I was given. I have been a vegan for two years now, take high-quality (often high-price!) supplements, and eat an excellent diet, but according to the doctor, I am not absorbing my good nutrients due to not enough hydrochloric acid 🙁 I also seem to have some spleen issues. All in all, I thought NRT was informative and pretty accurate based on my symptoms and what I was told after the analysis. I have a follow-up appointment next week, and cannot wait to see what the personalized supplement program looks like. I am afraid it will be too pricy though…Tina, what was your experience?

  3. I have been doing nrt for a year and it saved my life. I had ulcerative colitis and I was literally on my deathbed. I was just a regular person who went to the conventional doctor and reluctantly took the occasional prescription but I will never again because of the effectiveness of this new approach. I recommend it to anyone for anything because the body is always trying to heal itself and it should be able to if it is given the correct tools. nutrition response testing is the most effective system available for implementing this concept.
