Nourish What Counts

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning! I have a fun post for you guys. We have the opportunity to donate $500 to the American Heart Association (AHA)! Read on!

Quaker has teamed up with the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement to encourage women to “Nourish What Counts” by taking just 5 minutes to do something good for their hearts. As you know, it only takes 5 minutes to to schedule a workout or eat a healthy breakfast.

Here are a few simple ideas from Quaker you can do in 5 minutes to help nourish your heart:

Eat heart healthy meals: Replace some of the refined grains you eat, like white bread and rice, with whole grains. Start making the change at breakfast by eating 100% whole grain Quaker Oatmeal. Three grams of soluble fiber daily from oatmeal, in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may help reduce the risk of heart disease. A serving of Old Fashioned Quaker Oats gets you on your way with 2 grams.

Challenge yourself: Take five minutes to sign up for the Map My Fitness Quaker Challenge: Complete 15 workouts in 30 days to help keep your heart healthy and strong.

Learn facts about heart health: Visit to learn how you can make Heart Health an important part of your daily routine. Discover the state of your heart to make an informed decision about what you can do to live a better life by taking the My Life Check.

Make time for family fun: Set-up a “family night” each week. Cook a healthy dinner together, break out the board games or head outside to enjoy playing together. Sharing in laughter and fun helps relieve stress, which is great for your heart!

To celebrate American Heart Month and help spread the message, Quaker would like to provide a CNC reader and me with the opportunity for a $500 donation to our local American Heart Association chapters. That’s $250 on behalf of me and $250 on behalf of one of you guys! All we need to do is generate 100 comments on this post to secure the donation.

Disclaimer: Quaker is providing me with a $250 donation to my local American Heart Association chapter; however, my opinions are entirely my own.

For breakfast this morning, I made myself a big bowl of super creamy oatmeal with hemp milk (instead of almond milk), ground flaxseed meal, pumpkin pie spice, and a massive scoop of almond butter, which melted all over so I got a little bit with each bite (aka the best way to eat oatmeal).

Question of the Day

How do you nourish what counts?

Please leave a comment so we donate $500 to the AHA!

  1. I’m a big oatmeal fan. Would you believe until last year I had never had steel cut oats? I LOVE them. Seems a shame I waited so long to discover them. It’s harder lately to schedule exercise so I’ve been trying to work more on healthy eats.

  2. Let’s get that donation!

I avoid refined grains as much as I can, except for the occasional treat (HELlo birthday and wedding cakes!), eat oatmeal every day, and work out 6 days a week. My heart is my best friend that beats strong and keeps me going!

  3. Love this idea!! I nourish what counts by not only exercising for MYself, but teaching fitness classes too so others can be FIT and healthy!

I also fuel right by eating mostly fruits/veg/whole grains and try to encourage others to do the same 🙂

  4. I make time for breakfast every morning. It is a non-negotiable part of my day and I set aside at least half an hour so I can take my time and enjoy my favorite meal of the day. What did I have this morning?? Quaker oats! So this post was absolutely appropriate 🙂

  5. What a wonderful way to raise money for an important cause. I nourish what counts by eating whole grains and doing yoga! I have oatmeal almost every day for breakfast–never gets old!

  6. I know that you can get 100 comments easily! I nourish what counts by exercising every day with my family and spending a lot of time cooking from scratch so that my family gets the benefit of a diet made of mostly unprocessed foods.

  7. Great cause, and what an easy way to secure that donation. I like to de stress with friends most nights of the week (I’m lucky because I live with them!). Stress is a leading cause of disease so I try to keep mine down as much as possible!

  8. I eat my oatmeal everymorning and have for the past 3 months. That along with other lifestyle changes will surely show in my blood work next week!

  9. I like to make sure that each of our meals at home contains either a fruit or vegetable or both. It ends up being turned into a game over the course of the day. We have very colorful plates at our house!

  10. YEAH! Get that $500! I workout six days a week, eat a diet heavy in veggies, fruit, whole grains, and legumes, sleep 7 hours a night, and read a lot about nutrition!

Also, I think my comment should count double since I’m currently in China (have been since September, will be until May) and I eat Quaker Oatmeal EVERY MORNING for breakfast. I really buy Quaker too, not the crazy Chinese brand oatmeal! Loyal customer, all the way across the world.

  11. Love this deal they are offering. The name of the campaign is great to. It teaches us to nourish for our insides and not for our outside appearance. Really health…thank you.

  12. I make healthy meals for my family and exercise at least 3 times a week, to keep myself healthy but also to set a good example for my son.

  13. I love a protein shake and some oatmeal after a hard workout. I guess that’s double the benefit for my heart!

  14. Great way to raise money and awareness! I also eat oatmeal almost everyday, include a lot of olive oil in my diet, and exercise regularly. But the best de-stresser in my life is a cuddle with my husband. 🙂

  15. I love my oatmeal! It is such a great way to energize me for long days and to power through my tough workouts. This is a very generous donation they are doing.

  16. I nourish what counts by getting (almost) enough sleep every night and laughing with friends. Getting enough sleep makes a huge difference in my day because I have energy for the gym and I’m not a total grump. 🙂
