Just wanted to share my no-fail recipe for green juice with you. I pretty much drink some variation of this recipe most days of the week. It also works with a variety of fruits, so feel free to play around!


No-Fail Green Juice

  • 2 apples (or 2 pears, 1 apple + 1 pear, 2 oranges, 1 apple + 1 orange”¦ you get the idea)
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1/4 lemon
  • 3 handfuls of fresh greens (spinach, kale, chard, etc.)

My green juice yesterday was 1 apple, 1 pear, 1 cucumber, 1/4 lemon, and three large handfuls of baby spinach. I also like to add fresh ginger or mint to my juices. Mmm! So good!

Other Monday things”¦

Baby Haupert and I had our 30-week check-up. He’s growing! And moving and grooving like a maniac! It feels like he does flips and barrel rolls, which always surprise me and stop me in my tracks. I seriously can’t wait to meet this kid. I already feel like he has a lot of personality!

(I totally wore my workout gear to my doctor’s appointment yesterday. Putting on workout clothes is usually half the battle for me, so I figured if I was already wearing my gear, I wouldn’t skip CrossFit later that evening.)

The hood above our stove randomly fell yesterday. I’m still having a WTF moment about this. I was putting dirty dishes into the dishwasher and it just came crashing down. Obviously, it scared the crap out of me. I seriously thought our house was under attack or something, but I’m so glad no one was standing near the stove or cooking on it. Seriously. WTF.

Ugh, our kitchen is so cheaply made. We’ve actually had a lot of issues with the cabinets and appliances in the past. The people who lived in our house before us definitely made things look nice, but everything is such crappy quality. Time for a new kitchen?

I ate a lot of Peanut Butter Granola yesterday””like a whole lot.

I also ate a delicious Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Quest Bar for dessert. The nice people from Quest recently sent me a variety pack of their bars as well as some of their other products (peanut butter cups and pasta), so I’m excited to discover some new flavors. I love the Cookies & Cream bar, especially after being warmed up in the microwave, but Monica recently told me the right way to heat up Quest Bars: Cut bar into 3 pieces. Toaster oven or oven 375 F degrees for 5-7 minutes. (The microwave just melts the bars and then makes them hard.)

I went to CrossFit and did this workout below, which was way harder than I thought it would be. The goblet squats burned my quads so bad, especially after the first 30-calorie row. Yowsahs! I finished in 11:53 Rx.


After CrossFit, Mal snapped a 30-week belly pic of me! I feel like 30 weeks is a milestone, right? Maybe to start the countdown to my due date? 10 weeks to go! (Man, I’m getting BIG!)

  1. I’ve been trying to try out Quest bars for the past 3 weeks now, but everytime I go to my local Whole Foods they’re sold out! I’m dying to try the Cookies ‘N’ Cream one because everyone raves about it. I guess it’s time to go on a mission to find those bad boys!

  2. You look so good. I love juicing so much. Try beets, kale (or spinach), apple, lime and ginger. Or my ‘orange’ juice: clementines, carrots, basil (or arugula) peach, apple, ginger.

  3. I have kind of a strange question. Does your doctor measure your fundal height? My doctor doesn’t and I’m wondering if that is unusual.

    1. Yep! And Baby Haupert is always measuring big! How far along are you? My doctor didn’t start measuring until sort of recently.

  4. I frequently wear workout clothes to run errands. It’s just more comfortable, especially walking around the streets of San Francisco.

    And yes, my go-to green juice is more of a smoothie though. I call it the sweet green smoothie and it includes: kale, spinach, blueberries, almond butter, almond milk and a little stevia. Delicious.

  5. I JUST had my first green juice the other day, believe it or not! It was at a cute little vegan cafe we have in the East Village (Des Moines), and the ingredients were kale, parsley, lime, and apple. It was OMG delicious, and I may go back after work to get another!

  6. Good thing you don’t have a glass cooktop! We once had a kitchen light fall from the ceiling out of no where. Luckily we were in the living room.

  7. Love green juice! I sold my juicer a while back and now I’m kicking myself for it because I’ve really been craving it. I also love Quest bars and Cookie Dough is totally my favorite kind. I’ve heard Banana Bread is pretty legit, too, though.

  8. Ahh I can’t wait to read your Quest pasta review if you write one! You’re totally right about the microwave hardening out the bars. I bake them now too like you and Monica for a few minutes! Still need to try the cookies and cream. ASAP.

  10. I love juicing! My sister recently got me my first juicer as a birthday gift! My go-to juice is kale, apple orange lime and ginger but I definitely improvise and get creative a lot with whatever I can find in my fridge. Such a yummy guiltless treat. 🙂

  11. Green smoothies as I’m without a juicer…avocado, banana, spinach, spoonful of nut butter, 1 tbsp maca powder, vanilla, 1 date…sometimes cacao powder if I’m in need of a chocolate fix!

  12. I have been wanting to try this crazy Quest Bar in the oven phenomenon that everyone seems to be enjoying! I have only tried 2 quest bar flavors in the past and honestly wasn’t too impressed – but maybe this way of eating them will make them more appealing. I have really been wanting to try the Cookies N’ Cream because that is my favorite flavor EVER!

  13. OMG your stove! I would have peed my pants I think, I scare so easily! New kitchens are always fun…but a kitchen remodel with a newborn sounds intense! So sorry you’ve had so many kitchen issues. That green juice looks amazing. I can never decide if I prefer green or beet-carrot juice more.

It’s actually bizarre because they spent money on the materials, but everything was so cheaply and wrongly installed. The best was the bathtub that could electrocute you if it actually turned on, but it didn’t because the motor was rusted. And instead of cement under the tub, they used cardboard.

  15. You look so cute and yes, 30 weeks is definitely the start of the countdown! For sure! Your kitchen story reminded me of when I was pregnant and we went to visit my in-laws. We stayed in their basement and in the middle of the night a picture that had been on the wall for years came crashing down right on top of my head! Scared the crap out of me! The next time I went to visit? Ya, I made them take down all wall hangings above the bed!

  16. Hmm I have never tried to juice because I always assumed I needed a fancy, expensive juicer! Homemade juice always seems so fancy that I’m slightly intimidated to try it even though it looks super easy and delicious. I can not believe your hood fell down! that is so scary and would have scared the poo right outta me. I am so glad you guys are ok!

    When I’m home from school and have access to a juicer I drink them all the time! I normally just throw a whole bunch of stuff in and hope for the best. I am allergic to a lot of fruits, so it certainly makes things interesting!

    Have you tried Quest Bars? What’s your favorite flavor?
    I WISH! I’m a allergic to almonds! Fingers crossed that they will make some allergy-friendly bars in the future.

  19. quest bars = everything. so good, and decent macros for a protein bar. Obsessed with the white chocolate raspberry, cookies and creme, and cookie dough! Baking the cookie dough one literally tastes like cookies, and I love dunking them in almond or coconut milk!!

  20. I love Quest Bars! Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Cookies & Cream and Brownie are my absolute faves. I do find they can get hard so I tend to see if they are bendable when I buy them. My gym sells them which is incredibly convenient and I also buy them at GNC.

  21. WTF on the hood falling down? That’s nuts, I’m glad everything and everyone is okay for the most part. I mean, you still have to fix the hood, but looks like things could have been worse. I always fear stuff like that on the house we flipped. What if we installed something wrong? We used good quality materials and had a lot of pro help with it but gosh, I hope none of my handiwork could contribute to an injury. But then again, all I installed was the doorbell, the husband did all the “real” work 🙂

  23. Do you make your green juice each day, or make a large batch and freeze it? I find juicing to be pretty time consuming to make fresh everyday, but I will definitely be trying your combo!

  24. You look so adorable! Random question: do you plan to send your child emails as they grow up as a way to keep track of their memories/have a fun gift to share when he is older?

  25. I’ve tried a quest bar only once…I think it was the apple pie flavor…it tasted like a bowl of salt. Yuck!! Never again…I’m glad my bar was free…
