Good morning! Happy Hump Day, friends!
Quinn slept until 5:00 AM yesterday morning and Mal did the middle-of-the-night feeding, so I actually slept last night and it was a-mazing. Well, I sort of slept. I still woke up 4 or 5 times to change my clothes because of the night sweats, but I fell right back to sleep every time, so it was a win in my book.
Breakfast at 5:30 AM: Toasted English muffin with peanut butter and banana + iced coffee.
A couple of hours after breakfast, Quinn and I headed out to meet Kerrie at Southfield for a run with the jogging stroller.
Our legs were heavy and tired for the first mile or so, but we managed to pick up the pace by the end and finished 3 miles in just over 27 minutes, which is fast for me when it comes to the jogging stroller!
After our run, I said goodbye to Kerrie and then headed to Whole Foods to buyΒ a few groceries, which includedΒ some “first foods” for my little peanut.Β I can’t believe he’s going to be 5 months next week and eating real food!
After that, I popped into Starbucks to get my first “red cup” of the season. I planned to order an eggnog misto, my favorite holiday beverage, but I was informed by the barista that Starbucks won’t be offering eggnog this year. (Well, at least not on the East coast. Supposedly, Seattle and the Pacific Northwest will still have eggnog.) Isn’t that sad? My favorite Starbucks holiday drink is no more. Boo.Β I guess I’ll have to make my own eggnog coffee beveragesΒ at home. #firstworldproblems #eggnogproblems
I ended up orderingΒ an iced latte with a pump of caramel burlee. It wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but it was still pretty tasty.
When I got home, I snacked on some bacon from the Whole Foods hot bar. (Yes, I am totally obsessed. If I see baconΒ on the hot bar, I just HAVE TO have it. It’s the best ever!)
Then, I put on aΒ deep pore cleansing masque and let it dry while I fed Quinn. Multitasking.
Once Quinn finished eating, we played for a bit.Β I took a shower and washed off my mask. Then, we went for a walk to go vote.Β We took the long way home and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
Back at home, I reheated some Chicken Bacon Alfredo for lunch. Yummmmm!Β I love this meal so much.
And my afternoon snack was the bomb. I spread some Light Creamy Swiss from The Laughing Cow on a whole wheat wrap, topped it with dried cranberries, chopped pecans, and cinnamon. Then, I rolled it up into a long cylinder and cut it into bite-size pieces. Holy yum! It was so tasty and really filling!
Questions of the Day
Have you got a red cup from Starbucks yet?
Eggnog? Love it or hate it?
Moms, what was the first food your little one tried?

That wrap sounds kind of dreamy. I would slaughter something like that right now. I’ve never been big on the eggnog latte – I usually reserve my holiday Starbs indulgence for the peppermint mocha. Frankly, I’m not even sure why they still have the gingerbread latte. It’s nowhere near as delightful as real gingerbread.
I am totally going to try out that snack.
That afternoon snack looks amazing. So glad you and little man got to enjoy the nice weather yesterday.
I just got that mask and used it twice this week! Really like it!
It’s awesome, right?!?
@Tina: Where can you purchase it?
Tina, those wraps look delicious! Also, this is more applicable to your dog treat CVS post but it made me think of you: http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/this-guys-extra-long-cvs-receipt-costume-is-literally-perfec?s=mobile
Hahaha!
@Rachel: HAHAHAHA that is freaking hilarious. WHYYY with the hundreds of coupons??
@Rachel:
OMG!!! Hilarious!
Gonna try that snack. π
I so remember those night sweats! Glad you got somewhat of a better night’s sleep. Sleep really will never totally be the same as it was pre-kids, even if you happen to be away from your kids, and especially if you are an anxious type like me! Mom is a 24/7 job title and I can’t ever shake the feeling of being on call. I can’t say no to bacon either π
I am quite upset to hear there won’t be any eggnog drinks this year!! My favorite is the Egg Nog Chai Latte, and as a pregnant woman who can’t really enjoy many of her favorite drinks this time of the year (hot chocolate w/cinnamon schnapps, egg nog, etc.), this really bums me out! π
That wrap you made looks delicious!!! I wonder what it’d be like a little warmed up, too….
@Megan A @ Life on Planet Marsz:
Hot chocolate with cinnamon schnapps? Why haven’t I thought of that before? It sounds fabulous!!
@Catherine Cormier: And hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps! π (I’ve had a friend do hot chocolate with caramel vodka, but hadn’t tried that yet.)
Looks like a nice day spent with Quinn! I haven’t ventured out to Starbucks for a holiday drink yet but I may need to do so soon. My all-time favorite is the gingerbread latte but I also love a good peppermint mocha. I’m not a fan of the eggnog (sorry!) but I could also take or leave the real thing, so that probably explains it.
@Traci: Oh, and I am VERY intrigued by the Dunkin Donuts sugar cookie coffee…
Me too! Mal just told me about it yesterday. I want to try it!!
My first red Starbucks cup last weekend. I was having major writers block and needed to go somewhere else to write. It was gorgeous in AZ for sipping tea and writing outdoors!
I’m not a huge fan of eggnog but I still think Starbucks should offer it!
I can’t believe how fast time flies and Quinn is already starting food!
Not to be super nosy but do you still have night sweats from pregnancy/birth? Just trying to prepare for all the things to come! π
They’re from the steroids I’m on. Γ°ΕΈΛβ’
I had my first red cup on Monday and I felt so special and festive!
Eggnog is so nasty! Haha, no lose for me π
I’m more of a peppermint mocha girl myself, but I rarely stop at Starbucks anyway. That snack looks tasty!
I’m not an egg nog fan in the traditional way, I like to use it in french toast batter to make it taste all Christmasy. The Mr loves egg nog, especially caramel or pumpkin.
My daughter turned 5 months on the 2nd and after trying to grab my apple out of my hand I feel like she is ready for solids too… I am gonna try to wait another couple weeks though, until she is closer to 6 months. Even though I went through this once already with my son starting solids can just be so nerve wracking!
Apparently the east is getting gingerbread lattes, and the west eggnog? I’m THRILLED. Eggnog lattes are my favourite!
I LOVE eggnog so much! What a bummer they aren’t carrying it everywhere. Have you tried the So Delicious eggnog coconut milk? I love a little splash in my coffee around the holidays. So yummy!
Yesssss, that stuff is so delicious! I can’t wait to buy my first container of the season! π
My son started on mashed banana. It was so fun and he was a great eater! And if I want to be honest, I also gave him the smallest crumble of a blueberry muffin from the diner right around the same time lol.
Nice!!
That snack looks amazing! You are so creative with food. Did you ever have to be gluten-free with your stomach issues? I am doing “No Gluten November” to see if gluten is what has been upsetting my stomach the last few months and it has been surprisingly easy! It also helps me incorporate more real foods π
Yep, I was gluten-free for almost a year. Sadly, no luck.
I was mean and gave him peas for the first food at 6 months last week! I thought he liked it at first but… Sadly no! Don’t blame the kid…
No red cup for me just yet, but it WILL be happening very soon. π Bummer about eggnog! I’m not a big fan of it, but I’m sure lots of customers will be pretty disappointed.
You’ve inspired me to get out for a walk this morning! Hope you have a good day!
Delish eats! That’s too bad about the eggnog latte. Boo! I bet whole foods would make an eggnog latte. Mine will open any dairy/non dairy beverage in the store to use at the coffee bar. Plus, in my opinion, I think espresso (decaf & regular) are much smoother at whole foods.
The red cup switch at Starbucks always puts me in a holiday mood!
We started with rice cereal. Prepare for a mess, but it’s so fun seeing their little faces when they try new foods. You will quickly realize what they like and dislike! Have fun!
Getting a red cup is on my to-do list for today!! I really want a peppermint mocha but think I should wait until Thanksgiving to break into that drink π
I’ve never tried eggnog! I don’t think I’d like it but who knows! Not really a thing here in Ireland. Why no eggnog in Starbucks? Did he give you a reason?
She said it wasn’t popular. Γ°ΕΈΛβ’
No red cups for me yet. Eggnog kind of scares, I’ve never tried it! π The first food my little ones had was mashed avocado!
I’ve been following your blog for a while now, but I’ve never commented. I have a three month old, so it has been fun watching you post about Quinn! He’s super cute! I’m also happy to hear that my peanut isn’t the only one that doesn’t sleep through the night. Question for you, are you still nursing? Have you tried formula to help “tank” him up for the night? I’ve had a ton of people suggest it to me, just wondering if you had already tried it. My peanut sleeps a 4 hour stretch and then wakes every 2 hours after that and he sleeps so much better in bed with us than he does in his crib–which totally worries me!
Yep. We’ve tried everything, including formula and rice cereal. The kid just isn’t a fan of sleeping. Haha!
I love eggnog! And that snack looks pretty tasty too! Might have to try one of those this afternoon.
My 6 month old twins did avocado for their first food. They loved it! BTW – to make baby food purees the Baby Breeza is the greatest invention ever. You just throw veggies or fruit in the thing and its steams AND blends in 30 mins or less! I love it so much that I just wanted to share…I buy it for every new mom friend or family member.
Oooh, thanks for the recommendation!!
Oooh, thanks for the recommendation! Γ°ΕΈΛβ
@Tina: Sometimes they have them at marshalls! I’ve seen one on a few occasions π
@Tina: i always made baby food in the vitamix. just steam veggies on the stove and blend up. you don’t have to use very much liquid and the consistency was great!
@Katie@Tina:
You may be surprised that you don’t even need to make specific baby food. Our little girl was never a fan of the texture of baby food. We used true baby food for only a couple of weeks until we transitioned her to baby friendly table foods, avocado, potatoes, steamed and mashed carrots ect…she is the best eater ever. Not so great of a sleeper, but she is a great eater! π
I love that afternoon snack! so cute! YES I got one the day they came out!!!
I am not a eggnog fan– I tried it once in ice cream form and was scarred for life. (thought it was going to be vanilla ice cream, haha!) I can’t wait to get a red cup! Those make me so happy π
I like spiked eggnog, but that is about it. I need to get my red cup! I love the holidays and Starbucks has really cute and fun stuff!
I don’t like Starbucks coffee….I still have a few gift cards floating around in my wallet. I suppose I could use them to get a doctored up drink, though! I loooove eggnog. My favorite is Evan William’s Peppermint Chocolate Egg Nog. It’s amazing!
It’s okay because silk is ONLY offering their seasonal eggnog soy milk this year… I a, sad because the pumpkin spice was my favorite seasonal silk milk and won’t be able to get it. Try making your own eggnog drink with silk though! (And report back π )
Will do! Γ°ΕΈβΒ
I went Nov. 1st before class to get my first red cup, but they didn’t have them yet… even worse, someone in my class that morning had a red cup!!! must have gone to a different Starbucks!! going to get mine this weekend.
Eggnog mixed with Sprite isn’t bad, but I can’t handle it just by itself. Much too thick. The first food that I fed my daughter was smashed bananas! She loved them, and wouldn’t eat the canned baby food bananas for the longest time π
I moved out to San Diego last month and have started training for a 10k and every time I run on the boardwalk I see someone with a jogging stroller and think of you and Quinn and how much you would love to have this view for a change of pace! It also keeps pushing me because I think if these people can run with a stroller and a baby inside I can run not holding anything at all π
So funny…I got my first red cup this morning after crossfit and I overheard the baristas talking about the eggnog lattes…I’m in Portland but I heard them say the midwest was getting eggnog too.
So odd, we have eggnog lattes in our Starbucks here in the UK, but yet we can’t buy eggnog anywhere! Seriously!
Would love to try that brΓΒ»lΓΒ©e syrup though!
Aw! So sad about the eggnog latte! I worked at strbx for 7 yearx and never really got into the “froo froo” drinks except for the eggnog at Christmas.
Ryan’s first food was avocado. Now he won’t touch them though!
The eggnog latte is my favorite, but I definitely only get a couple per holiday season. Hoping they have it here in San Francisco!!
I’ve never tried eggnog in my life! I think I might try it sometime. I’ve never gotten a red cup, nope.
I would offer to send you an Eggnog Misto from one of the 500 Starbucks near me (I live in Seattle), but I don’t think it would ship well, sorry!
On another note, Quinn’s hat is adorable!
Haha! Well, thank you for the offer!
That eggnog news is devastating. I used to do half eggnog and half skim milk in my lattes. Guess I’ll have to do some experimenting at home instead!
@Colleen: another Colleen commenting, from Boston, I look forward to these ALL YEAR. I got my first red cup on Saturday and thought they might be waiting to do a special roll out for the eggnog latte’s
I love how Laughing Cow can be either sweet or savory depending on how you use it. It kicks butt with cranberry-flavored things (like the pumpkin-cranberry crackers from TJ’s) which is perfect now that the holidays are coming up. I think I’ll serve that as an app at thanksgiving! I know my parents on Weight Watchers will really appreciate it haha
I can’t believe starbucks would do that! I don’t even like eggnog, but still… Anyway, I really can’t wait to go get a red cup π
Mmmm that snack looks delicious & spot on!
I don’t love eggnog, but I will have a cup (with added milk to thin it out) during the holiday season!
LOVE eggnog. I have a recipe from my dad that is absolutely horrendous for your diet. Always the best kind!
When my son was 6 months, he got his first taste of solids with banana. Avocado and sweet potato puree were after that. To make my own baby food puree, I’d steam in small pieces and then use my food processor. Worked pretty well! It’s fun to see them taste things for the first time! Enjoy!
Here on the west coast (British Columbia, Canada) we have the Eggnog but no
Gingerbread! Go figure – I wonder how long Starbucks will be able to keep this up!
Quinn is so cute, I love seeing his pictures. These days are so precious – enjoy them
(and I know both you and Mal are), time goes by so fast.
