Hello!! I only have about a minute to write this post while my hubby freshens up for an evening out on the town with friends. (I’m really having a blast in this city! :-D)

My morning started with an iced soy grande latte from Starbucks. It always cracks me up when the baristas at Starbucks get my name wrong. Maybe I mumble? I dunno. I guess “Tita” was close enough! 😆

Mal used his iPhone to find a place for breakfast this morning. The Yep app suggested Gene’s Coffee Shop, which ended up being a great little diner. It received positive reviews on Yelp and wasn’t far from our hotel, so we gave it a try.

Gene’s definitely lived up to its reviews. The service was fast, the staff was friendly, the prices were cheap, and the food was good.

I ordered two eggs over medium with homefries and toast. I didn’t love the homefries, but the whole wheat toast made up for it. It was thick and grainy.

I added hot sauce to my eggs.

And drank a vanilla milkshake with breakfast. I’m on vacation, right? 😉

After breakfast, Mal and I headed to the Museum of Modern Art to see the Matisse exhibit.

First, we stopped by the sculpture garden to get our bearings and snap a couple of photos.

The sculpture garden was beautiful.

Inside, we saw pieces by some of my favorite artists, including Jackson Pollack, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, and Pablo Picasso.

I love modern art, but not super modern art. I totally don’t “get” it.

Then, we headed to Morrell Wine Bar & Cafe where Mal proposed to me back in 2006. This place definitely has a special place in our hearts.

Here’s the table where he prosed! 😀

At Morrell’s, Mal and I each ordered a glass of white wine.

And a delicious cheese plate to share.

Wine + cheese = my heaven.

Heading up town to meet friends for dinner.

See ya! 😎

  1. I love MoMA! I’m so bummed I didn’t get to see the Matisse exhibit when it was in Chicago- was it good? I hope you didn’t use flash when you took photos inside the museum! It’s bad for the paintings…

  2. It’s sweet that you got to go back to the place where Mal proposed – good memories, I’m sure!
I’m with you on super modern art – I can preface the statement by saying that maybe I’m just not deep or intelligent enough to “get” it, but sometimes I think that it’s just about being the first person to do something on a canvas that gets recognition these days..an epic contest to out-weird your fellow artists!
    Enjoy your week!

  3. Matisse is one of my all-time favorites–I hope you enjoyed the MOMA exhibition! That’s so great that you went back to “the spot” of the proposal! Oh, and definitely agree on the name thing–either version of my name–Gavi or Gavriel–is impossible! I would think that Tina would be simple enough, though! 🙂 Enjoy NYC!

  4. Ha, I had to laugh at the Tita. I went to a tapas restaurant once where you have to give your name. My friend Kelsey gave hers and when they called our names they said something like Keaney or something. It was something ridiculously far from her name and we were all like-what??? haha

  5. I have the same problem at Starbucks and I always figured maybe I mumbled. I’ve seen everything from Witey to Whittaney. I’m new to your blog and loving it so far…and what a cute proposal place!

  6. Gorgeous pics; you and Mal look like you had an awesome time in NYC! Your shirt is SO cute, where did you get it??

Have a great evening, Tita 😉

  7. Don’t worry, my name is Whitney and you do not know how many times the Starby’s people have messed my name. They always call me Wendy. Whatever I mess up peoples names all the time too at work. Sometimes the toaster’s are just too loud lol.

  8. I just love that ‘Tita’ seemed like more of a logical name choice than ‘Tina’! 😉 I’m a huge fan of art museums — visit one almost every Sunday as a fun (and air-conditioned!) activity. 😀

  9. I always love using Yelp on vacation and even where I live. You can find some great honest reviews. Also I love your cute top and shorts outfit too!

  10. Urban Spoon is also a great app for restaurant recommendations–the fun, slots-style wheel is what gets me every time.

Also, as a fellow Tina, I feel your pain. Starbucks typically writes Gina or Nina on my cup.

  11. So sweet that you got a shot of the table where he proposed! Something about those photos–the slight condensation on the glass, maybe, oh and probably the 90+ degree heat today :)–really put me in the mood for some white wine!

  12. Your vacation is beyond divine!

I must mumble at Sbux as well because I always get Shannon, Janna, Shawna, etc. the name is Shanna, like banana people 😉

Keep having a blast and let your readers live vicariously through you!

  13. LOL I totally get ya on the post modern art – it looks like randomness to me most of the time. Same with post modern literature…I HATED studying Modern and Post Modern lit in my college class last year. Glad you and Mal are having a blast in NY!
