Wow! What a fun-filled weekend! Running, friends, good beer, and good food”” everything I could have ever wanted on a vacation!
After the Mini 10K and brunch, I headed back to the hotel to quickly shower and get Mal. We had plans to meet friends at Blind Tiger in about an hour, so I really needed to boogie to get ready. Thankfully, I fully embrace the wet hair look! 😉
Blind Tiger is an ale house on Bleecker Street in the Village that serves a variety of draft and bottled beers, so, of course, I was excited to visit.
Yesterday, Blind Tiger was hosting a special event featuring Mikkeller single hop beers. They had 19 different kegs! I ended up having a Sierra Nevada Torpedo and a Mikkeller Cascade Single Hop, which was a Belgian Strong Ale. Both beers were excellent”” they were flavorful and hoppy, but not insanely hoppy. I also drank a ton of water since I felt pretty dehydrated after the race.
I spent a couple of hours chatting and drinking beers at Blind Tiger with Mal, my friend, Matt, and his brother, A.J.
Just when we were about to leave Blind Tiger, Theodora and Becky met up with us, so the six of us headed to a new bar for more chatting and more beers.
At Barrow Street Ale House, I had a Lagunitas IPA and a lot more water.
I also ate some spicy wings.
The guys: Mal, Matt, and A.J.
The gals: Ashley, Becky, Theodora, and me.
A little while later, the group split up and said goodbye. Theodora‘s dog, Bailey, needed to be walked, so Mal and I went with her to her apartment. We hung out there for awhile, played with Bailey, ate some Baked by Melissa Cupcakes, and then checked out the amazing views from her roof deck!
Love it!
Before we knew it, it was time for dinner at Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill. Mal and I first went here back in November 2008 and absolutely loved, so when Matt suggested it for dinner, we were all about it! Plus, I can’t even remember the last time I had sushi.
We started with cocktails. I ordered a dirty vodka martini, which was my final cocktail of the evening.
For appetizers, we shared an order of edamame.
And fried chicken with a honey-wasabi dipping sauce, which was outstanding. This is a must-order if you visit Blue Ribbon!
The table also shared a bunch of sushi, which was also really delicious.
After dinner, we hit another bar, but I didn’t last long. I was so tired from the day’s activities (and boozing face), I just wanted to go to bed.
This morning, Mal and I woke up fairly early, and, somehow, I wasn’t hungover at all. I guess drinking water all day long helped me pace my alcohol consumption and kept me hydrated.
Mal and I had a long bus ride back to Boston this afternoon, so we made sure to eat a hearty breakfast before we left NYC. We ended up eating at Rue 57, an adorable French brasserie right down the street from our hotel.
Because of it’s location on 6th Avenue near Central Park, I thought Rue 57 was going to be touristy and over-priced, but it really wasn’t. The food was great and the prices were pretty reasonable for New York City.
To start, Mal and I enjoyed some complimentary mini croissants. He immediately grabbed the chocolate one (his favorite), so I went with the almond one. Mmm! I need to eat croissants more often.
For my entrée, I ordered an egg white omelet with Swiss cheese and grilled tomatoes on the side. Mal and I also shared an order of homefries. Everything was really tasty and just what we needed to satisfy us until we got home to Boston.
After breakfast, we stopped by Starbucks for iced coffees.
Mal and I took them on a short stroll through Central Park together. I wanted to soak up as much of the Big Apple as possible before we left.
I can’t believe the weekend went by so quickly. I love New York City so much. I already want to go back!

Good food + good drinks + a new PR? Sounds like a good weekend to me! I wish I lived closer to NYC–I’ve only been to visit once!
What an awesome view from her rooftop deck. Awesome shots!
dirty vodka martini picture in black and white…very artsy, I dig it.
And I am chuckling at the non-sequitor of fried chicken + sushi restaurant. That dip sounds phenomenal. I am all about the sauces and dips.
What a fun trip, Tina! 🙂
That is one heck of a view from her apartment!
Looks like a great trip. Too bad the weather was kinda gross all weekend.
This looks like an awesome trip Tina! I’ve always wanted to do a foodie tour of NY. Or maaaybe the SATC tour =).
Looks like you had a great time! Aren’t Baked By Melissa’s the best?? Glad you got to take in so much of the city 🙂
I have always wanted to go to New York!!
Blind Tiger Ale House is so great…I frequented that bar quite often in college. Their wings are delicious – and I don’t even like wings that much! You’re making me miss my old NYU bar haunts 🙂 Glad you had fun, Tina.
I live in Manhattan, and literally every time I leave the city for the weekend… you go to the city!!! Hahah this is about the third time it happened. Glad you enjoyed your stay!
Ahh you went to some of my favorite spots in the city! Blind Tiger is a good neighborhood bar.
I LOVE Blue Ribbon, whenever I feel not-so-broke, I treat myself to dinner there!
Looks like you had a fabulous time 🙂
My cousin lives in Manhattan now so I can’t wait to go and visit her! New York in the fall would be beautiful. 🙂
I need to join up with you for beer tastings!
i used to walk by rue 57 all the time when i lived in nyc but never actually went. those croissants look pretty good!
What a fantastic weekend! I love all the photos and it looks like y’all went to some fantastic restaurants/pubs! Great job on your run too.
Reading this and seeing the pics makes me miss the city that much more! I can’t wait to be back in a couple of weeks!! I’m going to add Rue 57 to my list of restaurants to go to- looks great!
Tina you look like you had so much fun! You and Mal are so cute and the pics of the guys- yummy! Love NYC- glad you guys had a great time!
Glad you had a good time! I live right next to NYC and never feel like I can see everything I want to see. There’ just too much to do 🙂
That rooftop view is amazing! Looks like you got in a variety of good eats and drinks and experiences. New York is so much fun to visit.
I love how you try to avoid the the touristy restaurants! My husband is an amazing chef (just at home for now), and he always finds great, out-of-the-way nooks for us to eat at, especially on vacation! We’ve been to NYC twice and have not eaten at a fraction the places that we would like to. My favorite was Babbo (Mario Batali). I also LOVED brunch at the Yuca Bar – Latino Bistro.
Gotta get to Brooklyn the next time your here!! We have great beergardens!!
Agree– the boroughs are better!
What a wonderful way to enjoy the weekend post race!
So glad you had such a good time! 🙂
Sounds like an awesome trip. THat’s funny you were on 57th street, I work on 57th street. 🙂 Often times, I’ve passed by Rue 57, now I will check it out for dinner or something. Sounds like you had a great trip! 🙂
I used to take my laptop to Blind Tiger to work in the afternoons when I lived in the West Village. (Work was productive until halfway though beer #2….) Great choice! Congrats on your PR!
Ahh, you have me homesick for NYC (and craving sushi- yum!)!
I’ve been to New York 3 times and I looove it! I’d KILL to live there!
What a fun trip! All of that food looks incredible!
awesome, I’ve never been to NYC eve though I grew up not to far away in Cincinnati! It’s my dream to do a race there 🙂 Thanks for the recap, all that beer makes me want some… might have to remedy that tonight!
Almond croissants are amazing! And you’re all such gorgeous people 😀
Looks like you had a great weekend!! I have only been to NY twice (both work trips) and one time I went to Rue 57 and I thought it was great too! It was for dinner, which was delicious!
Awesome trip! You are a stronger girl than I-I can’t do insanely hoppy quite yet!
I went to Blue Ribbon in Vegas a few months ago and tried the fried chicken w/honey-wasabi dipping sauce. It is freaking amazing – definitely one of their signature dishes. Also, congrats on your 10k PR!! 10k is my favorite distance.
Awesome trip! All of that food looks amazing. I’ve only been to NYC once for a 2 day trip and loved it. I wouldn’t live there, but I think they have amazing food there.
Love Lagunitas IPA- nice choice 🙂
What’s your favorite beer (or beers!) ??
Hi Tina!
I never really comment, but I’ve been reading your blog for a long time. I live in Manhattan and love seeing your recaps when you visit! Just two questions: Aren’t Baked by Melissa cupcakes amazinggg?! The red velvet is out of control. And also I’m gonna go ahead and be a creeper, Matt and AJ. Adorable. Single, perhaps? 😉
@Allison: I second that question! They’re both super cute =) Too bad they’re nowhere near me! haha
@Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles:
oh don’t worry… they’re not that cute. just good lighting and some airbrushing.
That view is fantastic! I’m so jealous of your NY trip! I’ve still only flown through it on my way to visit my family overseas! JEALOUSY. 🙂
Wow Tina I am impressed at your resistance to a hangover- how I wish I had your tolerance! New York is so breathtaking, loved your recaps! And I concur, more croissants would definitely make the world a better place 🙂
Hello! I am wondering if there are any calories in the iced coffees at Starbucks. Im looking for some that are just plain iced coffee, no powder or anything?
I think one of the best things about NYC is the practically unlimited amount of places to eat! It looks like you wree able to get to quite a few awesome places before heading back to Boston!
I’m glad you had a good time in NYC! Rue 57 does have a pretty touristy reputation here, but I’m glad you enjoyed it. I almost went to Blue Ribbon Sushi last night, so funny! Hope to meet you next time you’re in the big apple:)
The roof top deck is beyond amazing!
Looks like SUCH a fun time! Amazing food, and so glad you got to catch up with friends. The views from that deck are incredible! I seriously need to go to NYC for myself one of these days!
Ahh, you make me wanna visit NYC!! I guess that means it’s a good post, huh? 🙂
Beer, sushi, and friends… sounds like pretty much the perfect way to spend your day after the race. Glad you had such a great trip!
I was in Manhattan as well this weekend and it’s fun to see someone else’s adventures in the city. I can’t wait to go back for a visit, either. 🙂
What a wonderful time in NYC! 🙂
i was in NYC this weekend also with my boyfriend sightseeing!! We were there Thursday-Saturday and I was so sad when I had to leave…New York is the best!
That seems like a perfect weekend. Like you said running, great food, beer, friends… Glad you enjoyed yourself! Way to go on the PR too 🙂
What a great weekend! Any weekend that revolves around running + eating + drinking is a great one in my book!
i love that you guys went on a tour of NYC beer spots for the afternoon! you were much more hip than me and Ali as we spent the entire afternoon hanging in our sweatpants. I’m also on Team I Want to Go Back to NYC ASAP!
Awesome trip, I’m jealous! Glad you enjoyed yourself!
You should have tried Sushi Samba for amazing NYC sushi. I just went there on Friday, and it was the best sushi I’ve had in NYC so far…and I’ve been to countless numbers of sushi places.
All those pictures of food and drink are making me salivate!!
I’ll have to keep Rue 57 in mind for my next trip up, I hate paying an arm and leg for Sunday brunch but it’s still maybe my favorite meal of the week.
