New Job, New Life?

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Ahhhhh!!! I start my new job at NuVal today! I’m so excited!!! And nervous! 😯 I’ll be sure to give you guys a full report later today. Wish me luck!

My Monday started bright and early at 5:15 AM for a trip to the gym. I only had about an hour to exercise, so I split my workout 50-50 between strength training and cardio:

Strength training:

  • Chest Press (dumbbells): 25 lbs, 15 reps, 3 sets
  • Chest Cable Crossover (machine): 30 lbs, 12 reps, 3 sets
  • Front Raises (dumbbells): 10 lbs, 15 reps, 3 sets
  • Upright Rows (dumbbells): 15 lbs, 15 reps, 3 sets
  • Concentrated Biceps Curls (dumbbells): 15 lbs, 12 reps, 3 sets
  • Hammer Dumbbell Curls: 12 lbs, 15 reps, 3 sets

  • 30-minute iinterval mix from MotionTraxx: “Drop a Jeans Size Workout ”˜09 – Interval #3.”

When I got home from the gym, I found the sweetest note from my husband and puppy wishing me luck on my first day of work:

I love that Mal added ‘keep working hard‘ to his note. Even though I’m working fewer hours in an office, it doesn’t mean that I am working less. I actually have to work harder now!

This morning’s breakfast included a very delicious ingredient: coconut!

Shredded coconut used to be one of my favorite oatmeal add-ins. I can’t believe how long it has been since I last had it in my oats.

In the mix:

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • 2 tbsp shredded coconut
  • Pomegranate arils

I also had some iced coffee with vanilla soy milk for breakfast. You can sort of see it in the background of this last photo! 😉

Give Yourself the Gift of Health

I saw this great tip in the September issue of Shape magazine and just wanted to share:

Forget New Year’s resolutions: Make your birthday the time of year you vow to make good-for-you changes. Celebrate your life by committing to take care of yourself. Use your birthday week to schedule your routine screenings and checkups.

To get started, visit the American Cancer Society website,, for a list of medical tests you need, along with other well-being tips and tools.

Speaking of birthdays…

  1. I never thought i would say this, because I HATED this vegetable as a kid, but now I love zucchinis! Both the green and yellow varieties. Yum!

  2. Mmmmm green beans! Like your coconut, I’ve recently rediscovered this food item and I’ve been crazy about them lately!!

Thanks for the giveaway and good luck on your first day!!!

  3. Broccoli!!! I have it 6 out of 7 days a week! But I did try spaghetti squash finally…close call!
ps – love the blog, i’m a new reader but a big fan!!!

  4. I totally agree that working from home doesn’t mean less work, it often feels like more! Thanks for agreeing so I don’t feel nutz!

Gosh I didn’t even come by for a giveaway…so what a surprise. My fav veggie is a sweet potato.

  5. Good luck at your new job, you’ll do great! As for my favorite veggie, I LOVE broccoli! I eat so much, I cant believe I havent turned green. 🙂

  6. I hate picking just one. My favorite vegetable right now is winter squash. I love eating it with cinnamon and walnuts.

  7. I love Spinach. I think those Popeye episodes got to me. It’s slimy, mushy and thick, so by all accounts I should hate it, but I LOVE spinach! Mmmm.

  8. My favorite is spinach. Although it makes me teeth feel kind of funny I love buying a big bag of spinach and steaming it. Soooo yummy! Good luck at your new job : )

  9. If I had to choose one, I would probably pick pumpkin! There’s so much to do with it…in soup, chili, with cottage cheese…I could go on and on!!

  10. Like choosing a star in the heavens!! Humm so I guess it would be collard greens, kale, sweet potato. I can eat these any time and prepared any way. YUM!

  11. Butternut Squash! There’s SOO much that you can do with it, and it is SO tasty when coated in olive oil and roasted in the oven, mmm…

  12. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR JOB!!! Your oatmeal looks D-E-L-I-C-O-U-S!!! My favorite veggie is SWEET POTATO!!! I LOVE mashed sweet potatoes and fries:)

  13. That’s a hard question. Maybe eggplant? Or squash, or broccoli, or brussel sprouts, or spinach. Yeah. All of those.
