Man, it has been a busy week for me! But, I finally had the chance to write my restaurant review of Myers + Chang this morning before work. Better late than never, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Earlier this week, I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Myers + Chang with Mal, Beth, and Corey. Myers + Chang has been on my “must visit” list for months now, so when Beth suggested it a few weeks ago, I knew that we absolutely had to go there for dinner one night during her visit.

The cuisine at Myers + Chang is inspired by Taiwanese soul food and Southeast Asian street food. Everything that I tasted was delicious, fresh, and unique.

The decor inside the restaurant can be best described as Chinatown meets upscale diner.

We ate off place mats cut from newspapers. Neat! ๐Ÿ˜€

On Monday and Tuesday nights, Myers + Chang offers Cheap Date specials, which include 5 dishes for $40 per couple. You can pick from a variety of pre-set menus or chose the Blind Date, in which the chef selects the tasting menu.

Being the adventurous couples that we are, we picked the Blind Date X 2, which meant 10 different dishes for the table. I knew that we were in for a treat!

Our meal started with a plate of Asian Pickles (carrot and daikon slaw, plums, cucumbers, cauliflower, jalapenos and kimchee).

And, then a plate of Mu La Lat Skewers, which were pork meatballs, grilled with lemongrass and served with fresh mint, lettuce wraps, and fish sauce. The combination of ingredients easily made this dish one of my favorites.

Up next was Garlicky + Spicy Chicken Wings with Housemade Sriracha and Pickled Salad

Baby Octopus with Grilled Corn on the Cob and Sriracha Butter

Gai Lan + Ginger

Chinese Sesame Cucumbers

Nasi Goreng (Indonesian fried rice) with Pork, Shrimp, Pineapple and Farm Egg. This dish was also one of my favorites– it actually may have been my most favorite of the entire night! I loved all of the different flavors and textures.

Slammin’ Salmon with Ginger, Sriracha, and Rock Sugar

And, finally, Thai Ginger Chicken Salad with Lemongrass, Rice Vermicelli and Butter Lettuce. This dish was also especially awesome. The Thai Ginger Salad had tons of flavor– lemongrass mixed with an amazing spicy dressing. Underneath all of the veggies were angel hair-like noodles and bits of toasted ground rice, which added a fun crunch.

The dishes just kept coming! Our table was jam-packed with plates and plates of food. It was awesome!

With all of the different options covering our table, the four of us were in foodie heaven!

After finishing the meal, our server told us that we enjoyed one of the best Blind Dates he’d ever seen! Joanne hooked us up! ๐Ÿ˜€

And, of course, the best part of the evening (besides the food, of course) was meeting Joanne Chang herself. She was so friendly and down-to-earth in person. It was really great to meet her!

(Mal actually arranged this introduction and photo opp because Beth and I were too nervous to inquire about meeting the famous chef. ๐Ÿ˜ณ )

I absolutely LOVED my first experience at Myers + Chang. I can’t wait to go back again! I hear they have amazing desserts! Next time, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. That all looks HEAVENLY! I love the spice and zing and pizzazz of that kind of food – I particularly love the pickles, and the sound of the salmon with rock sugar. Hurrah for you choosing the Blind Date meal and giving us so much to enjoy looking at!

  5. I too had a great meal at M+C recently. I went last weekend and I have to tell you, your Blind Date dishes were awesome I’m sure, I’ve had some of them, but you HAVE to go back to try the wok-roasted lemongrass mussels, that is if you like mussels. They were without question the best mussels I’ve ever had, anywhere, and easily in the top ten dishes I’ve ever had, period.

  6. I am so proud that you both just let the chef surprise you – that’s when they really get to have fun and make what they’d want to have if they were you!
