My Weekend According to Instagram

Hi, guys!

I spent most of today work, work, working, so I figured I’d pop in for a quick post before I shut down my computer and made dinner.

So I don’t know about you, but I am totally obsessed with Instagram. Of course, I love posting photos, but I also love seeing other people’s pictures too, especially the pug ones. (I follow a ridiculous number of pug accounts. I know. I have issues. It’s cool.) Anyway, here’s a recap of my weekend according to Instagram!

Five Guys burger with all the fixings. Oh my goodness, this hamburger was so amazing. I’ve been craving red meat lately (chicken suddenly isn’t appetizing??), so this burger totally hit the spot. Five Guys definitely does something special with their burgers… and French fries. Helloooo!

So much green juice! I’ve been craving green juice like crazy lately and making it just about every day. I made a pear-apple-cucumber-spinach mix this morning, which was incredible and, according to Mal, “pear-y refreshing.” He is so witty.

Oh, how I love Curtis Ps. Curtis Ps are 1 power clean + 1 front lunge on the right leg + 1 front lunge on the left leg + 1 push press at the end. Those four movements together count as one Curtis P, and I love how challenging they are.

At Open Gym this morning, Mal and I did a variation of a WOD with Curtis Ps that our box did yesterday:

4 rounds for time with a partner:

40 calorie row (~600 meters)
20 Curtis Ps

Mal and I split the row (approximately 300 meters each) and then took turns doing the Curtis Ps (5 at a time) each round. I started with 75 pounds for the Curtis Ps, but I had serious Bambi legs and was wobbling all around, so I dropped down to 65 pounds, which was much more manageable. We finished the workout in 30 minutes, anddddd my legs are going to be sore tomorrow! Yowsahs.

My dog is super cute; my husband is super weird. I think this photo says it all. #photobomb

A healthy breakfast for the first day of the Get Healthy, Stay Healthy Challenge. I started my food journal this morning (on MyFitnessPal), which included a delicious egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich on an English muffin and a glass of freshly pressed green juice. Are you in for the challenge?!

I said goodbye to an old friend. I traded in my beloved Camry for a new car this weekend. It was bittersweet.

My Camry was my first big purchase of my adult life almost 10 years ago, and she’s been with me through so much: treks to Vermont to visit Mal when he was still in college, commuting from Littleton to Chestnut Hill (<— traffic nightmare), adventures in Southie, road trips all over the Northeast, and every else along the way. Man, I’m going to miss that little car, but it’s time for her to go. She recently needed a lot of repairs, and we need more space for Baby Haupert. So long, good friend. (Oh, of course, I am super excited about our new car. We pick it up on Thursday!!!)

Questions of the Day

In your opinion, who makes the best burger?

Did you start your food journal for the Get Healthy, Stay Healthy Challenge?

Have you ever been really attached to a car?

P.S. Check out my newest post on the JUNK blog: 5 Ways to Get Excited About Winter Workouts!

  1. actually abe & louis makes an amazing burger. They’ll usually make it for you if you ask for it 🙂 ive been working all day and reading blogs in between since i have to be on fb for work! I’ve loved my first two cars – volvo s70 and then a jetta but i hate my scion tc that we have now. we’re planning on getting a second car that will absolutely be mine!

  2. I love your blog so much! I’m a big fan and I’m trying to incorporate more healthy eats in my life, but could you explain how eggs, bacon, cheese and bread is healthy. It’s a genuine question (not trying to be snarky!). I understand the protein value but what about all that additional fat and cholesterol in the dairy and bacon?

    1. As far as nutrients, eggs have protein, good fats, vitamin A, and iron, cheese has protein and calcium, bread has fiber, protein, and a bunch of vitamins and minerals, and bacon is delicious.

Honestly, I’m not concerned about the cholesterol and fat in my diet. I don’t have high cholesterol and not all saturated fat is bad for you. I also don’t eat bacon every day. I eat cheese and eggs fairly often, but my portion sizes aren’t crazy.

I actually ate bacon again tonight for dinner, which, of course, isn’t typical, but according to MyFitnessPal, I’m not even close to the Recommended Daily Value for saturated fat and cholesterol today.

I also don’t think foods like eggs, bacon, cheese or bread are unhealthy at all. I think you can have a perfectly healthy diet and enjoy all those foods from time-to-time. It’s all about balance! 😄

      1. @Tina: Thank you so much for responding, Tina! It’s a good reminder to find that balance in life. It’s easy to get sucked into black-or-white mentalities when it comes to food! You’re so sweet and inspiring, and I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy 🙂

  3. journal started, so far so good! Growing up it was always sad when my family had to let go of a car. We like to name our cars in my family so you could definitely say we get a bit attached 😉

  4. Hi Tina – was wondering what juicer you have and if you’re happy with it? Seems like some are really hard to clean up or just don’t work as well.

  5. God what I wouldn’t give for a new juicer. We got one from craigslist that is honestly from the 70’s.

Before I got my new CRV I had my lil Honda civic for 9 years. The ol’ gal went down with a fight!

  6. I’ve never tried Five Guys, but I’ve heard that their burgers are killer! We just went to a place called BareBurger last night, which is a more gourmet burger place. I had a bison burger and it was delicious! I have half left, so I’m thinking that’ll make a good dinner tonight 🙂
Curtis Ps sound awesome and brutal at the same time!

  7. I am sucker for a good Culver’s butterburger. Had one last night and it was delicious! I don’t usually eat hamburgers, but nothing wrong with having one every once and a while. I didn’t feel guilty because the majority of the time I eat healthy! It’s all about balance right 🙂

  8. Oh I am obsessed with Five Guys! Have you had one with fresh jalapenos? My fave topping there!

I really like your answer to your breakfast above I have been recently reading how important fats and whole nutrients are and that the low fat focus over the years has caused so much damage to they way people eat and think about food!

  9. I have a Honda Accord & love it! It’s actually my second Accord in a row & probably will keep buying Hondas. The only other car I would consider is a Subaru (Outback), so nice choice with the Forrester. 😉

  10. I said goodbye to my car of 8 years last year. It was bittersweet. Oh the memories. I managed to put 143K miles on that beloved black Hyundai Santa Fe all by myself!!!

I love your furry baby pictures!

  11. My car was also the first adult purchase i made – it felt so good to pay it off and it was totally bittersweet when we had to part ways!

  12. I enjoyed a green juice this morning as well, but added ginger for a little spice and warmpth. And like you, I also become very attached to my car. Maybe because I name it and we have conversation about the traffic, weather and how she is feeling. Ha!

  13. Getting a new car is always exciting. I’ve had my car for 11 years now – since my second year of university. I know I’ll need to get a new one sooner rather than later.

Are you going to name your new car? I call mine Baby Bing from an episode of The Soprano’s.

  14. Quite surprising. It’s been about a year since I stepped foot in a fast food joint. A Five Guys burger and order of fries left me feeling greasy all over and a lump in my stomach. Seriously disgusting and unhealthy. I’ll take a homemade baked turkey burger any day.

  15. I remember saying goodbye to my first car – it had been with me through everything since I was 16 years old- definitely bittersweet. After reading about your challenge, I decided to start a food journal this week too. I’m not trying to lose weight or anything, so I’m not super serious about counting the calories, but just writing your meals down really shows you just how much you’re eating. I think it’s a great tool to keep you on track.

  16. That juice sounds amazing! In my opinion nothing beats a burger my dad makes with our own beef. Knowing where all the ingredients have come from makes it that much more delicious! When I sold my first car to move abroad I was much more upset than I thought I would be. I am not that person that has a new car every few years so I definitely get attached to my cars.

  17. I LOVE Fuddrucker’s burgers! I’m not sure if they have them on the east coast, but they are so darn good. They just closed down the two chains I know of our here in UT which makes me so bummed.

So exciting about your new SUV! I have a Mazda3 that I got back when I was in college that my husband now drives to work because it’s so great on gas mileage. Not to mention it’s been such a reliable car that has had hardly any issues. I love it, and I know it’ll be tough to part with when we end up selling it.

  18. I am also obsessed with Instagram. I try to catch up on every photo I have missed in my feed when I don’t check it for a few hours. Exciting to be getting a new car! We bought a 2012 forester this year and love it. I know it will be great for when we are ready for a family. Plus, my 95 corolla was just getting a bit old and scary to drive at times. 🙂

  19. I have a Forester, and I love it! I hope you’ll love yours, too.

And my nephews were just telling me as we passed a Five Guys tonight that they have the best burgers “in the universe,” but I have never had one. Best in the universe is a pretty serious accolade.

  20. Are you happy with your juicer or would you recommend a different kind? I’m considering buying one for the first time but I don’t know much about them. I looked yours up on amazon and it said its a masticating juicer which is supposed to extract more juice and work more efficiently. Any thoughts? Thanks!!
I craved burgers in early pregnancy too, but now it’s citrus anything! Hope you feel great!!

  21. For the best burger I have ever tried – Burger’s Priest! I have yet to try Five Guys Burgers but your photo is awesome and it is making me hungry!

  22. There is a place here in East Texas called Jucy’s that makes burgers the size of your head, but they are really good. (Sometimes giant food is just for the sake of being giant, you know? Not this place!)

Also, according to the old wives tales, which we all know are highly accurate, your food choices/cravings indicate you are pregnant with a boy.

  23. I would love to have fresh juices every day but my juicer seems to be just so darn hard to clean! I saw you answer which one you have above, so I’ll have to look into that one! I have juice about once a week, but I’d love to make them more often 🙂

I just got rid of my 1999 Ford Taurus that I got when I was 16 and went through both other brothers before it got to me, and I actually miss that car! I love my 2013 Toyota Corolla Sport Edition, but there was just something special about my old car!

  24. Oh, I had old trashcan Yugo car for a while. It did not have AC and sometimes door would get stucked, so I had to climb over and use back door, but I was 19 and had so much good memories with it!

  25. I’ve been tracking my food for a few months now (as much as I can)just because I want to make sure I’m getting enough carbs protein and nutrition! I’ve been craving burgers lately too!! Yum

  26. Starting my food journal TODAY! I used to do this religiously and since I started crossfit I seem to have stopped. Maybe I was just assuming I was working off any intake of calories? Anyways, I have gained 8-9lbs and I’m not sure if it’s from gaining muscle from crossfit or from poor eating decisions. This food journal will definitely help me figure it out.

  27. We really like buffalo or bison burgers, we first tried bison at Mesa Grill in NYC and then came across the burgers at Ted’s Montana Grill. We often buy the meat at Whole Foods and grill our own now! I also love a good veggie burger, 5 Napkin Burger at the Pru makes a really good one!

  28. I don’t eat red meat, never liked it so I can’t say who has the best burgers. But I am doing a different 12 week makeover challenge, on week 5!

I get attached to all my cars. I used to have a 1991 Honda Accord and when I traded it in for a newer car, I missed it like crazy. When I sold my 2004 Hyundai Sonata, I wanted it to go to a “good home.” Now I have a 2013 Kia Soul, for ever brand new car, bought it myself. I thought about trading it in for something bigger (we have a 5 month old) but not only can I not afford to at the moment, I got all sad and panicky about getting rid of it… I’ll just have to learn to pack it better and travel lightly.. think a jogging stroller would fit onto a bike rack?

  29. I am 14 weeks pregnant and like never eat burgers (not a vegetarian though) and now I want one of those Five Guys Burgers. There is one right down the street from me and I have never been. What burger would you recommend?

  30. BEST burger ever is at Village Whiskey in Philadelphia (owned by iron chef Jose Garces). Seriously, ever since moving from Philly to NC I have dreams about that burger 🙂
