Spring outfit inspiration! Sharing a few of my favorite outfits you can piece together with a few clothing staples you probably already have on hand.Β
Even though the weather outside is frightful, I can’t help but think about warm weather, sunshine, margaritas (who said that?), and fun spring clothes.
As you probably know/have observed from reading CNC, I have the worst sense of style. I’m totally happy wearing workout clothes with sneakers or jeans and a t-shirt with flip flops, and I honestly have no idea how to dress myself. Obviously, this is somewhat problematic since I attend all sorts of nice events for CNC and need to look put together… oh, and my husband likes to see me in something other than my sweats every once in awhile.
Recently, I started a Pinterest board, appropriately named βI Can’t Dress Myself,βΒ to help inspire me/teach me how to dress more fashionably. I actually have a lot of nice clothes in my closet; I just can’t figure out how to wear them together. I dunno, I guess they don’t make sense in my closet.
But, after creating this Pinterest board, I realized I already own quite a few pieces to make the outfits that I pinned, but I’m missing a few key things to pull the looks together. Instead of buying random pieces and hoping for the best (like I usually do), I decided to focus on specific items that I want to add to my wardrobe this Spring. On my listβΒ¦
Colorful Shorts
How fun is this outfit?! I actually have a lot of striped and plain tops, so some brightly colored shorts (and, ok, some funky jewelry too) would definitely spice things up. I’m pretty casual with my style, so I could easily get away with wearing flip flops or other flats with an outfit like this. Maybe I should buy a colorful cardigan too? I love this look in a major way.
Shop the look:
- J.Crew 4″ Stretch Chino Shorts
- J.Crew Striped Boatneck T-shirt
- J.Crew Cotton Jackie Cardigan Sweater
- Lucky Brand Helenka Sandal
- MVMT Nova Watch
Stripes
Oh, how I love stripes. I actually own quite a few striped shirts, but I want to add a black and white top to my wardrobe to wear with my brightly-colored shorts (and jeans). It’s classic, but fun at the same time.
Shop the look:
Casual White Tees
A casual white tee is such a simple addition to my wardrobe. I’m sure I could find them cheap too. Target or H&M perhaps? I just need to add a fun scarf or jewelry to jazz it up. Easy style. Love it.
Shop the look:
Patterned/Floral Skirt
I love the look below. It seems like such effortless style. Like I mentioned, I have tons of plain tank tops, so I just need a fun/patterned/floral skirt to go with them. This would be a great outfit for a blog event or date night with Mal.
Shop the look:
It snowed all day yesterday and last night. It actually still might be snowing right now. Boo. What’s up with the snow, Mother Nature?
It’s actually kind of funny because, just the other day, Mal and I agreed it seemed like something had changed with the weather and maybe Spring was upon us.
I guess we were wrong.
Really wrong. Whomp whomp.
Yesterday afternoon, I literally had to push Murphy out the front door into the snow to do his business.
He was not a fan.
He quickly did his thing and ran immediately back to the houseβΒ¦
βΒ¦where he did the βpug breakdanceβΒ to get all of the snow off himself.
Freak.
Questions of the Day
Do you consider yourself a stylish dresser?
What pieces do you want to add to your wardrobe this Spring?
P.S. Fun fact of the day: A group of pugs is called a “grumble.”

Love those styles!! I can’t dress myself either! I recently signed up for stitch fix so I am hoping my style will improve!
Our pups love the snow–they walk through snow banks (up to their dog elbows in snow) like it’s no big deal!
I’m pretty much a workout clothes/jeans person–I have no in-the-middle clothes. Suits/dresses for work and then my workout/weekend lounge clothes.
I just wanted to tell you how much I love Murphy! I have never had a dog (allergies) and therefore, do not consider myself a “dog person” but that Murphy is a crack-up! You do a great job of capturing his personality in photos and he always makes me laugh. He needs his own blog.
π
I am the EXACT same way when it comes to fashion and, on top of it, I loathe clothes shopping. But, alas, I’m in desperate need of some new clothes seeing as how I did some major closet clean-out before our recent move. I’m going to act just like Murphy having to go out in the snow when it comes time for me to hit the mall. Lol. π
oh my god I am so excited for spring shopping now..
Your post has come just at a time where I think I need to work a bit more on my style! I really want to invest in a quality (non-see through) well cut white tshirt and a great pair of jeans, as well as some other fun stuff!
Love the simple, classic white vneck. It really goes with anything and can easily be jazzed up with jewelry! And pinterest is awesome for getting inspired π
I absolutely consider myself stylish. That’s one area in my life where I always have it together (tooting my own horn). You’ll hardly ever see me in just jeans and a t-shirt, but I’m never really “over-the-top” and I can still pull off a casual look, just without wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I know that makes me sound high maintenance, but I’m not! It literally takes me about 30 minutes in the morning to shower, brush my teeth, and get dressed. I think a key part in pulling off an outfit is confidence. I actually wear a lot of what you posted, and then some. My absolute favorite pieces in my wardrobe are what I call “hot pants.” They’re usually just shorts/pants/leggings that have awesome and colorful patterns on them. I pair them with a solid top and some other accessories and I’m good to go. I will dress you π I’m planning on adding more sundresses and more patterened bottoms to my wardrobe this spring because I am addicted to both of those items.
I agree– I’m in RI/CT and SO sick of the snow. I also love pinterest to help me out with my fashion sense lol
I can’t really dress myself either. I like using Pinterest for outfit inspiration but I hate that I can never find the actual link to buy the clothes in the picture. I recently joined this new site called Sweet Relish that’s similar to Pinterest but you can buy everything right off the site. Here’s the link if you want to check it out: http://www.sweetrelish.com
Oooo cute selections! Those minty pants look really refreshing. And one thing I’d like to wear this spring is lots of comfy, pastel OR nicely patterned sun dresses π Don’t know if I’ll find good ones with this belly though, haha.
…but the snow is so pretty!
I think we have very similar tastes in style. I’d like to add a white watch this spring… maybe some white skinny jeans (to go with flow-y colorful tops) and perhaps a denim blouse π
I LOVE color–so that first outfit is fab. I love yellow & oranges so Spring & Summer are my faves! I have a sister who is pretty stylish, so that helps me to know how to dress myself π
I wish I were better at putting clothes together too. I would also describe my style as simple and laid back, I have a ton of plain items that pair with simple jeans and flip flops ( I live in FL so this is a year-round thing). Some items I’d love to add to my wardrobe would be a colored blazer (maybe coral?) a simple maxi skirt (black or brown) and a cute, simple white dress that I could dress up or down throughout the summer. Must be tough thinking of spring weather with all that snow on the ground!
I loved this because I am vole rely the same way although I don’t have the cute clothes in my closet. I teach PE so I have lots of sweats, Nike, lululemon stuff etc. cute ideas you have! Thanks!
I totally live in gym gear these days! I can be stylish when I put in some effort! Being comfortable is key though – H & M always a good place to hit up for the plain white ts and other basics ….they also have a nice selection of custom jewellery and scarfs!
We got tons of snow in Bridgewater as well. I’m talking a minimum of 14″ easy. Ugh! Thankfully, we’re headed to Thailand on Monday where it’s sunny in the 90’s. YAY!
Fun! Enjoy! π
cute! I love using pinterest for outfit inspiration. It reminds me how I can use stuff I already have! We got snow too and I was so ready for spring π oh well
We have similar taste I loved all those outfits! I feel the same way about my closet. π
i wish i could have been in some snow this winter! (my husband is going snow backpacking next weekend and i think he is crazy though)!
i’m really excited for spring clothes too, but even just wearing the one’s in my closet…i’m 33weeks pregnant so i feel like i haven’t worn “cute” clothes in like 5 months!
i absolutely adore your patio!
Wow, that’s A LOT of snow. I live about an hour outside of Philly and we’ve missed pretty much every snow storm this year.
I feel like I used to be so much more into fashion when I was younger. I still love to shop, but I’m too exhausted to put together pefectly accesorized and super-cute outfits every day!
I like to think that I’m a stylish dresser, and I care a lot about it, so hopefully my efforts pay off. I’m definitely looking forward to more color in my wardrobe– I feel like I’ve been wearing black, grey, brown, navy all winter long. I want to get a pair of salmon colored shorts to wear with casual pale T’s (white or cream) and a big necklace like the pictures above… Ahh cannot wait for spring. This snowstorm was kind of a bummer.
The snow is so pretty! I’m over the cold, but untouched snow always makes me smile! And about the white tshirt…my fav tshirts are Old Navy’s vintage tee’s. They are less than $10 and SO comfy! The white one is a little thin, so a tank is needed. http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.docid=77820&vid=1&pid=810130822

Yup, I am now following you on pinterest (not sure why I wasn’t already)! I can’t dress myself either…
Pinterest is really helpful! π
I’m doing the same thing right now with trying to figure out my look. So far I’ve realized that when I pay attention to what I’m wearing, I do fine… it’s just that most of the time I throw something on without too much thinking! Trying to change that as part of my March challenge.
I can completely agree with you with the fact that I do not know how to dress myself either. I love clothes and love to see people and look nice myself but I just can’t conjure up the sense to make fashion! LoL, idk but I did buy a denim jacket from Old Navy (my favorite store ever) and I am going to go for the flower look because I love colors! I also love stripes too so yay for us! I am also going to incorporate more dresses and wedges into my wardrobe this spring/summer too. Happy fashionisiting!
I love your pictures of Murphy, he is so adorable!
I can’t dress myself either and I have a similar board on Pinterest. I always think your outfits look nice though… π
I have a dream closet on Pinterest – and I see we’ve pinned some of the same things! I don’t consider myself stylish unless I have to go somewhere and there is much planning needed – I prefer yoga pants and a tee and/or hoodie. If I was happier with my body, I may have more interest in clothes, but not yet.
I love the pug fact! I have terrible style and really should make a pinterest board for help.
This post caught my attention because I love fashion :-). I have a Pinterest board full of fashion inspiration. At times, it gets hard to pair different pieces of clothing together to make a satisfying outfit. I find that looking at various Pinterest boards, help inspire you to think of different outfits. The outfits you posted were fun and I especially like the striped top with the colored shorts!
Another inspiring post! Its so fun to “shop your closet” but I lack ideas too. Off to make my own Pinterest board, thanks for the idea!
Iβm a shopoholic ! I love to shop, I love clothes! I often get overwhelmed and donβt know what to wear … I tell myself I have nothing to wear when clearly I have tons to wear. Since I pretty much shop at 1 or 2 stores exclusively I have found it helpful to start saving the outfits in their magazines that I own so I can look at them for ideas.
For my summer wardrobe, I want to add some maxi dresses, colored / patterned shorts, and other cute casual items. I have a lot of black items… I want to add some color.
