My Newest TV Obsession: Girls

Have you guys seen Girls on HBO? It’s a series about a group of twenty-something friends living in New York City. People have referred to it as a younger version of Sex and the City, which I can sort of see, but I actually liked the characters in that show. The characters in Girls are obnoxious (I’d never want to be friends with any of them in real life), but I can’t stop watching it. I stumbled upon the show last week, and I’ve since plowed through every single episode. Ok, it is hysterically awkward, which I can totally relate to, but I have no idea why I find it so addictive?!

Dinner

Mal planned Chicken Tacos with Avocado and Grapefruit Salad for dinner last night, but we didn’t have any taco shells, so I ended up mixing all of the ingredients together (minus the green chilies and scallions) and adding them to a spinach salad.

I topped my salad with a big scoop of salsa. The combination of ingredients was so delicious””who knew grapefruit, black beans, and chicken would go together so well?

After dinner, in honor of National Peanut Butter Cookie Day, which is today, I whipped up a batch of my favorite Peanut Butter Cookies.

I have no idea where I found this cookie recipe, but it’s a go-to in our house””mostly because it’s so easy to make and only requires three ingredients. I added chocolate pieces to this batch!

3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies

Ingredients: 1 cup peanut butter + 1 cup of sugar + 1 egg

Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine ingredients and divide dough (using a tablespoon) onto a prepared cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork, if desired. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

I ate two three four Peanut Butter Cookies after dinner. Oh my goodness, they were so delicious!

  1. My brother got me hopelessly hooked on Doctor Who a few weeks ago. I never would have pegged myself as a sci-fi girl, but apparently I am!
Other favorites are The Office, Psych, and Sherlock.

  2. Girls is absolutely my new favorite show! I think the fact that Lena Dunham writes, produces, and stars in the show is amazing. She’s 25 and just moved out of her parents house and wrote the entire show while still living with them! I think the only similarities between Girls and SATC is that they are all… girls and live in New York. Girls is much more raw and real, and how 20-something’s live in NYC. I think the writing in SATC is more classic and is just one of those shows that will always be. I don’t necessarily think Girls will have that same hold that SATC did. However, I think Girls is laugh out loud funny.

Other TV obsessions: Mad Men, Dexter, and Downton Abbey! Oh, and all Bravo reality shows 🙂

  3. I am a TV addict so it’s hard to pick my favorites! My current can’t miss shows are New Girl (I heart Nick & Jess), Glee, True Blood, Dexter, Californication, Bones and Real Housewives of OC & NJ. I watched one episode of Girls but couldn’t get into it. Maybe I’ll try watching it again OnDemand this summer.

  4. Oh my gosh, I am obsessed with Girls too! Its so addictive. I read the other day that it is like sex in the city, except in sex in the city they have everything figured out except their love lives (jobs, etc), but in Girls they have nothing figured out. I thought it was a good comparison.

  5. Omg! I love girls too!!! I think it’s my current far. The characters definitely aren’t so likable, but I’m addicted. The main character is so funny. The drawn-on eyebrow episode was the best!

  6. The picture of these cookies would make anyone crave them! It also inspired another craving; one for a bit of trivia. Does anyone know why peanut butter cookies are always marked with the criss-cross of a fork?

  7. i love girls. every episode is like a page taken from my late teens, early twenties… i guess this makes me an annoying obnoxious person.

  8. I love those 3 ingredient pb cookies – so easy and delicious! And the tv show I think about the most has to be Dexter! I am anxiously awaiting the latest season to come out on Netflix so I can watch it again!

  9. I wrote about it on my blog a while ago! My girlfriends and I recently watched 5 episodes of Girls while sipping mimosas,it was perfect lazy Saturday.I even got my hubby to watch. 😉
My t.v. line-up : True Blood, Dexter, Bravo Real House Wives (oh the drama!), and Revenge.

  10. Girls has grown on me! I started watching it because it is set in my hood but I’ve since actually started to enjoy it. But I agree, the characters are sorta obnoxious.

My personal obsession right now is Pretty Little Liars. Super cheesy but love it!!
