It’s hard to tell who’s winning between Murphy and the couch. At first look, it seems like the pug is dominating his competition.
Without much (if any) effort at all.
But, when you look closer, it doesn’t seem like Murphy is very comfortable, so maybe the couch is winning after all?
I dunno. It’s anyone’s call!
Lunch
Phenomenal lunch today! I had Creamy Broccoli Soup, but it didn’t come from a can for once. I actually made it from scratch!
The recipe was from Real Simple, so, not surprisingly, it was really easy to throw together. Basically, you just add all of the ingredients to a large sauce pan, letΒ it simmer for 20 minutes, and then throw everything in a food processor/blender. And just like that, you have homemade soup! Who knew making soup was so simple?
On the side, I had a toasted whole wheat Sandwich Thin with melted cheddar, which I dipped into my soup. Mmm!
Workout
Remember that run I tried to do yesterday afternoon? Well, I did it today! Hooray! My first run of 2012! Only 731 more miles to go!
I ran a little over 4 miles in 35 minutes using the treadmill workout below. This one was really challenging. You start out with a quick 1-minute interval and then work your way up to longer and faster intervals. I was dying by the final 4-minute interval, but I was almost done with the workout, so I just pushed it. It was a great run!
For a slower paced running workout, just subtract 1.0 from all of the speeds. For a walking workout, subtract 3.0 from all of the speeds.
Snack
After the gym, I ran a bunch of errands and then came home for an afternoon snack. I made a whole wheat Sandwich Thin with peanut butter and banana slices on top and then added more peanut butter to the rest of the bananaβΒ¦ and then I ate a spoonful of peanut butter right from the jar. Ok, it was technically three spoonfuls of peanut butter right from the jar, but who’s counting?
I’m off to rescue the pug from the couch (or the couch from the pug?) and take him for a walk. CrossFit and Pot Roast are on the agenda for this evening!
Enjoy the night, guys!

That broccoli soup looks delicious! I’ve always wanted to try making it from scratch π
My goal for the 2012 is to improve my pace- and this workout looks like just what I need..thanks π
I have a craving for a banana boat now…
Awwe Murphy seems like such a cutie! My dogs do the exact same thing with the couch, they both will put up with being uncomfortable just for a “prime” couch position! π
Good to know other people eat PB right out of the jar!
I love simple soups!
First of all, you are beast! Crossfit AND running? CRAYZAYYYY! Anywho, what is the topping you put on top of that soup? It looks yum
They’re kale chips! π
The soup sounds so comforting! I’m always such a fan of the Real Simple recipes. π
And Murphy makes me melt. Look at that face! π
OKay so when you are adding up your miles you are including your miles run in the gym too? I only add my outside miles and this year I did 344.15 miles outside. I am not sure what I would have done if I added all the miles I ran on the treadmill too. Hmmmm.
Yes, of course! Any mile that I ran was added to my tally! π
Okay – maybe I need to do that next time.
I adore this post. Murphy is hilarious! The last picture of him and his little pug body on the couch cushion is classic. Dogs are the best π
Homemade soup rocks this time of year….I made a pretty awesome tofu, squash and kale curry yesterday…yum!
That is hilarious b/c our couch looks exactly the same. I mean exactly. When you tell her (Ginga – prounounced ginger) to get down she struggles for an eternity trying to get up from laying down so she can get off the couch.
Thanks for sharing.
Mmmm that soup looks fantastic! I love making soup- its always easier than you think, and so tasty!
I hope someone is counting spoonfuls of peanut butter… talk about mindless calories!
I LOVE LOVE my Vi Shakes. The basic flavor is cake batter….. you could not go wrong with any mix in you choose. “Think of it as going to the ice cream store, adding in your favorite mix in’s to your cake batter ice cream and throwing it all in a blender. ** but healthy for you and not all the calories **” There’s over 100 recipes so I can satisfy any craving my sweet tooth is having. And I’m LOSING weight!!
i LOVE this treadmill workout. i’ve been going through a rut and the treadmill is so boring (i hate winter). this is easy to follow and definitely motivates me to push myself. i added .1-.2 to each for more of a challenge. thanks!!
